I find that as long as I make sure to eat BEFORE I go to the store, I do better. Plus, and this may seem odd, I make sure to take one of my kids. See, I am always telling them "no, we can't get that, no we can't get this", so it reminds me not to either, at least most of the time lol.
I also make myself take a llist and attempt to stick to it. I put it all on my PDA, which tallieshow much I am spending... makes it easier to put those things I don't really need away. My problem is not so much home or grocery store - its work, and the snacking and going out to lunch I do. Trying to cut that habit AND the habit of buying a snack everytime I go to the gas station, which is frequent since I usually fill only a half-tank at a time in hope the gas prices will drop... woisme. |
To stay on track u have to give a little and those 100 cal packs are great. I have like 4 or 5 different types in my house and my kids love them too for a snack. So dont feel guilty. ENJOY!

I too wash out my bags. However, if it's something like crackers/cookies and I'm going to be bringing it again the next day, I sometimes don't even wash them out. I figure if it's the same food and it's not something perishable/with germs, it's okay. Is that bad? Am I gross? :)

I like them but I rarely buy them. I usually buy in bulk and portion out...while chewing gum so I don't snack! LOL

No scenestealer, you're not gross. I do the same thing.
I only started counting a month or so ago, so I bought a box of snack sized bags and weighed out everything I already had (crackers, candy, nuts etc) into 100 cal bags and put them in a shoebox. Doing this taught me a lot. For eg, I thought I'd treat myself to some cinnamon hearts as Valentines Day is coming. In bulk foods, the bags by the spices are tiny, so I used one of those, with a little scoop of hearts. It cost about 50 cents. When I got home and portioned it out, it was over 600 calories!!!!!!! for that little bag. Who knew? |
