Electronic Calorie Counters

Has anyone tried one of the electronic calorie counters? The ones that you can enter in the foods you eat it does the calorie adding and you can also enter in your exercise? I would like to get one but am not sure which brand. Thanks

caltrac

Several years ago I used a caltrac. You put in your personal data, clip it to your belt/waistband and it tracks the calories burned. Those are the basics anyway. I lost 54 pounds using it. It was nice to know exactly where I stood at the end of the day. It will tell you 'net cals'-- how many more calories you burned than you ate-- so the goal was to get at least 1,000 net cals a day to get 2 pounds a week. amazon.com has it for the least expensive price. ($34) The caltrac website will give you more information, including a virtual tour, but it costs about 20 dollars more to purchase it directly through them. My biggest complaint was that the clip that held it onto my pants would break if I wasn't careful. I just had to watch how I bent down to pick stuff up. It was worth it and you can order additional clips on the caltrac website, although I didn't find their costumer service to be that great. I need to get mine on!!

Someone at work uses the Bodybugg with great success. (like on The Biggest Loser. She can download her information onto her computer. (I just had a chart for my caltrac information.) I looked it up and the site I found sells it for $399.00, I only looked at one site, though.

Hope that helps!

Are you talking about a device or software - as for software there are many popular ones. I use DietPower.

There are several members here that use Fitday and The Daily Planet. There are many other options as well.

Calorie Smart

I use Calorie Smart. The company is Coheso and I bought it online. The major functions are food (for tracking calories), exercise, track you weight, reports, and setup. It interfaces with your computer and the hand held device is about the size of an old blackberry. My favorite features include sorting food by different portion, so if you look up carrots you can look at calories in 1 oz or 1 cup without much work. Also, you can put in your own food directly or fill out a recipe. The report functions let you see how many calories you have consumed throughout the day. Reports on the computer let you see what foods you have entered. Overall, I like it!

I was thinking of getting a calorie smart. I want one of the little portable ones I can take with me everywhere.

I haven't tried one yet, I usually do it with my Windows calculator and update my menu/blog manually.
