Default Here's a question...

When you started dieting and tracking your calories did you notice that you appreciated the food you ate more?

So far I have been. I try to make each bite count nutritionally since I'm restricting calories. I had some steamed califlower with my dinner tonight and it was soooo delicious. I NEVER remember califlower tasting like that. I was in food heaven, so apparently my tastes are changing.

Not so much at first - but then, when I started I played a mental game with myself in order to fit 'treats' in... that didn't last long! Now, I am a lot more appreciative, for sure! I'd rather really enjoy feeling full and satisfied from a lean chicken breast and veggies and salad than have that cake... okay, one bite of cake I will still do!

Yes, definitely! I take days off once in a while, and while it's fun to have expanded options (within reason), I find that I miss the way I savor every bite when I'm on plan. I think it's partly that I'm hungrier when I'm eating, partly that I put a lot more thought into my food preparation, and partly that being good tastes good - no guilt!

Yes, I appreciate what I eat more now. I make an effort to focus on my food when I'm eating versus just shoving it in. It's amazing how much better things taste when you slow down.

Another thing I've noticed is that after focusing on healthier eating I can't eat most junk anymore. It grosses me out now. I call that a bonus!

Zenor, I feel the same way. Some things that used to really appeal to me I can't eat anymore. And the foods that I thought were unhealthy before now literally make me sick to my stomach!

I've definitely learned to appreciate food more, but it didn't happen over night! I think mostly, I've learned to appreciate what the food will do for my body rather than the food itself.

Yes! A year later, there are foods that I literally will not TOUCH now... I found out some of the things I was eating every day before... I didn't even LIKE! I realized I had been eating them just for the sake of eating.

Also, I have added a lot of new foods to my diet. Things I used to hate I now love (asparagus, melons, etc).

It's definitely interesting to see how much my tastes have changed!

I noticed that I am much more willing to try new healthy foods. If its is low in calories and healthy I will get it a try.

You know I was thinking about this and I think it goes well with this thread. I've become more adventurous with food since losing weight. I've actually conquered most of my food dislikes from childhood. Isn't that funny?

Nope, loved food then, love for now. I couldn't possibly have developed more appreciation for it lol. I eat less of it and I don't appreciated that!

I actually experienced this the other night, I went to a diner with a bunch of my friends and one of my friends didn't finish his slice of cheesecake. He was trying to get me to finish it and normally I would have. Instead I had one little tiny bite and let it melt in my mouth. I appreciated that so much more than if I had shoveled the rest of that slice into my mouth in 3 seconds like I previously would have done!
