Default Mexican Food

We are going out for Mexican food for dinner tonight with some friends. Does anyone have any suggestion on what to eat to keep my calories during this dinner down?

Maybe so chicken fajitas with extra vegetables and no cheese. Bean burrito if they're whole and not the refried kind. Guacamole is good, high in fat but it's the good kind. Crap, now I'm hungry for Mexican food.

Order a la carte, no rice, no beans. Order single items, such as 1 taco and 1 chicken enchilada. Don't eat the tortilla chips on the table. And no dessert items! That's about all I can suggest--I love Mexican food, but usually it's more than my calorie goal can stand!

Step away from the chips...and the carnitas.

I like fish tacos if the fish is not fried. With salsa, not the white sauce (this is usually like a tartar sauce). Siete Mares (seafood soup) is also pretty good most of the time. Shrimp cocktail isn't too bad. Take it easy with the avocados tho.

Is the restaurant on dietfacts.com? You might get an idea. For example, go there and look up El Torito's lite burrito. You don't want to eat it. Shoots, just looking at it will shock you!

I'd suggest fajita's as well. You can eat the grilled meat and veggies. If you want only veggies, then you'd be even better.

You don't need the fatty cow snotty guacamole. Leave it for the people who don't care what they eat.

If there is a relish bar, then get some of the carrots and other veggies that they have pickled.

Many times they will have soups. If it is something like chicken tortilla, then you might be in luck.

Good luck and let us know what you had.

Most mexican restaurants have some sort of taco salad. You could ask them to hold the shell and any re-fried beans, give you the sour cream, cheese, guac on the side (so you can have a little bit for taste if you want) and use a salsa for dressing.

Or, I second the chicken fajita idea with limits on how you dress it.

Oh, and sit on your hands when those chips come out! LOL I love those!!
