FitDay Discrepancies?
I find FitDay so frustrating sometimes...I just entered 4 oz. of Extra Lean Ground Beef, which by the nutritional info on the package is 130 cals, 4.5 grams of fat. FitDay lists it at 284 cals and 18 grams of fat per 4 oz. serving. Why? So I just created a custom food for it to enter what's on the label. But this frustrates me and makes me doubt the accuracy of the nutrition label. Does this drive anyone else crazy?

Yeah I've had a few issues with Fitday as well. Even so, I think I'll stick with them.
When their numbers don't equal what I've got on the actual label I keep adjusting the serving amount of that same food until the calories even out. As an example if I'm eating something that the label tells me is 100 calories and Fitday has decided that it is 90 calories I make that serving out to be 1.1 or whatever finally totals one hundred calories. Probably not the most scientific thing to do but it keeps up with my calories that way. Other than that there are times that link thing in my signature does not take anyone to my fitday journal. Sigh. With all of the problems, it's still easier for me to do fitday than to run around with a pad of paper & a pen. Have a great day! Marylynn |
I put all the information in myself because of that very reason. Last night was a fun one. Fitday did not want to accept the information right from the can for French cut green beans. It was strange. Kept saying there should have been less calories than there really were. Thank heavens I don't use the thing to keep track of numbers. Just want to keep a general track of my total fats. Have to say I really like fit day. Helps me make sure I am eating enough.

I have had issues like that too.. I wonder where they get their info?? Some of the calorie trackers are SOOOO far off... There was one site where I checked into a meal that I used to eat at Applebees, just to see kinda where it was... the calorie tracker said that the Crispy Orange Chicken bowl had only about 480 calories in it... turns out its actually more like 1700. Is there some standard, universally accepted FDA calorie list? I should check into that.

I go with the label if what I need isn't in fitday. However, there is a ground beef 95% lean listed in fitday that is close to your label. It has 4 ounces, 155 calories, 6 grams of fat. Maybe you should have chosen that instead?

Personally, I just assume fitday is going to be wrong. However, I have to "eat out" in a dorm cafeteria for all my meals and they seem to make it as HARD as humanly possible to track down nutritional values for the meals. So guessing is the best I can do. Generally I think fitday undershoots for me, so I keep that in mind with my daily intake.

Fitday uses the USDA food database, as do almost all calorie calculators. That's why it has those weird abbreviations, like NFS and NLEA. Those are USDA terms. :) If you want to go straight to the source, check it out: USDA database -- it has everything!!
Generic items, like ground beef, will never exactly match what you buy, so if you have a nutrition label, always use that! |
I almost ALWAYS just put the info in myself on Fitday. My list is very long.:D

Meg how did you lose all your weight?
|
Hi Inky and :welcome3:
I lost my weight by counting calories, concentrating on super nutritious foods, and lots of exercise, both cardio and lifting weights. And that's still what I do today to keep it off. :carrot: How about you -- what works for you? :) |
