For those who can't live without Mayo...

  • Here's a tip! Today, I was making my roast beef sandwich..and I REALLY wanted to put some mayo on it..But I knew I wouldn't be satisfied because I like my sandwiches gooey with it LOL, and a tablespoon just doesn't cover it.

Then I started thinking...No matter HOW much mayo I put on the bread, it ALWAYS soaks up and I am left unsatisfied! So...I decided to put some on the meat instead!! I only used a TEASPOON of mayo, and it spread perfectly onto the meat (and I put it in between two slices of meat so it wouldn't touch the bread!) So it saved me about 65 cals, some fat, and it was a WHOLE lot tastier.
  • Very smart, Mary! Thanks for sharing that great idea!!
  • Hey Mary -- you've learned the lunchbox trick of mothers everywhere! If you're ever packing a sandwich for later consumption, this trick is essential. Putting all condiments (mustard, mayo, relish, and even other "wet" toppings like tomato and lettuce) between the meat prevents the bread from getting soggy and smooshed. If you use a slice of cheese, spreading is even easier because the cheese offers a smoother surface!
  • Wow, that is an awesome idea! I pack my lunches/dinners (depending on the shift) for work. This will go a long way for me. Thanks so much!
  • That is a clever idea. I really despise soggy sandwiches and absolutely will not eat them. If I want to make a wrap for lunch, I package up all the fillings and condiments *individually* and then put the wrap together at the office. It's slightly neurotic, but it works for me.

(I wash and reuse ziplock bags, so while it might be silly, it isn't wasteful.)
  • Great idea!
