Do you count water?

I use FitDay, and entered water in the search the other day just to see if there were any nutritional values. I was surprised to see that water has about 8 mg of sodium in it, according to the nutritional facts. In the big picture that isn't a lot, but now I feel like I should be measuring the water that I drink and enter it into my count. Does anyone here do that? I drink nothing but water (except for once when I went out to dinnner and had unsweetened tea with Sweet and Low). Thanks!

The sodium content of water will vary depending on where you live. We had to contact our local water dept when Dad was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. Luckily ours was very low, but I've heard that some areas have a lot of sodium in their water.

I don't count my water :)

I have well water, so of course mine will have salt in it. Actually we use the Potassium instead of Sodium for our tank so I'm not sure.

I only count water to make sure I"ve going over and above what you're supposed to have in a day. Don't count it for sodium....it's so trivial that I wouldn't worry about it.

We have tons of sodium in our water - you can taste it! I don't use it for drinking, coffee or tea, and don't add salt to cooking. I notice fitday assumes you do, so I figure it all balances out.

I don't count it - besides, it would be hard to allow for cooking. Perhaps if I drank it, but it tastes too yucky.

Newbie jumping in. I have been counting calories for a little over a week and haven't even looked at sodium. Should I be paying attention to this, too?! In other words, does sodium intake affect the diet?

Thanks!

Welcome Olivia!

Some people do count sodium, but it's more of a health issue than a diet issue. The only impact too much sodium will have on your diet is that it can make you retain water, so you'll weigh in heavier than you actually are. If you stay away from overly processed foods you'll be fine though. I wouldn't worry about it at this juncture.
