Coffeeaholics beware.........

There are calories in coffee, too. They may seem small to someone who drinks a cup or two a day, but for someone like me who drinks it all day (decaf, of course), it adds up.

My ten cups of decaf add up to 90 calories. :fr:

Ten cups of regular coffee adds up to 57 calories a day.

That's without cream and sugar, folks. I just use 2 teaspoons of Non Dairy Light Creamer in my coffee for an additional 20 calories per cup. Total calories per cup of coffee for me- 29. :( I guess I have to cut down on that, even though it's decaf.

I'd rather walk 10 minutes extra as exercise than cut coffee out of my diet! In fact the coffee is more worth it to me than a 100 cal snack pack :) To each his own, I suppose!

Amen, sister! :) Somehow I managed to lose (and keep off) 122 pounds while drinking a pot a day and never counting the calories.

Hmm, the USDA food database lists an 8 oz cup of brewed coffee as only two calories. I'm sure my margin of error in all my calorie counting is far greater than that, so it's not something I'm personally too worried about. :)

It sounds like the creamer is where most of the calories are coming in! Cut that out and you could still drink it and not have it make much impact! Or just keep it as-is and count is as a 90 cal snack. Personally, I think coffee is a good weight loss aid. Gives me something tasty to sip when I'm like to go off and snack!

I've always counted something like 2-3 calories per cup (black coffee, no sugar, no cream, no anything in mine). I don't know if it's fairly accurate or not, but so far I don't think it has caused my weight loss to stall. Although I 'only' drink 4-5 cups a day, so it doesn't add up too much, I suppose.

But yeah, if putting anything in it, it can quickly become a trap. It's always good to remain aware of that.

wow i am surprized i was drinking 2 pot a day 57 cals a pot and i was using about 4 teaspoons of creamer per cup with splenda this was 514 calories a day for me in coffee well i would think cutting down to to 2 cups with very little creamer should help.

maegdaeien 06-18-2007 09:25 AM

I drink my coffee black too, so I don't at all mind the very few extra calories every morning! What I can't understand is how people can go to Starbucks every day and get those billion-calorie chocolate venti frappaccino or whatever things... sure they're good, but it's basically the equivalent of downing a giant glass of ice cream!

SITIBODY 06-18-2007 11:07 AM

I don't count my coffee calories:o

I count everything else and I eat about 12-1300. I drink 1-2 cups a day with stevia and a little non dairy creamer.
It's just such a pain in the neck to put all of that stuff into fitday.

alinnell 06-18-2007 11:13 AM

Since I drink it black, I won't worry about my 6-8 calories per day!

I refuse to give up my flavored creamer so I just count it into my calorie count for the day.

edzard 06-18-2007 12:27 PM

I keep drinking coffee but I knew the creamer and sugar added count, no way do I bother counting the coffee itself! Its the creamer and sugar that will fatten me up if I don't count it so I duly measure/estimate my intake of those. I use my soy milk as creamer though so that I am intaking soy that is good for you and some of my daily calcium needs thru the enriched soy.

FYI - flavored creamers are usually very high in HFCS and hydrogenated oils -- both very bad for your body. If you want a healthier choice, try soy creamer, skim milk, or evaporated skim milk (in cans - very creamer) for a healthier alternative.

yep those would work and you can add sugar free syrups (like Davinci syurps) for flavor... i had a vanilla white chocolate coffee this morning...

bargoo 06-18-2007 12:45 PM

I will NOT give up my 5 calorie cup of coffee!!

nelie 06-18-2007 12:47 PM

Tea also has calories :) I wouldn't give up my tea for anything!! I probably drink 32 oz of tea every day if not more... I love my tea. Especially iced tea... lipton iced is one of the best in the world :)
