I need some advice!! ( Remember me??)

Well some of you may remember me, I did hang out in this section for a while.

Well I've tried my hand at several things and nothing is proving right here.

I need some help again.
I've come to the CC section to see if you can help me!

I think that my issue with just about every 'diet' is that it's toooo much of a diet for me.

Is it possible to exercise and kinda 'eat what I want' within reason?

I need some advice from anyone!

Well I'd have to say I was thinking the same thing with dieting...it's just too much. And unusally most diets weren't that healthy because of calling to cut out a whole food group. I came to calorie counters a couple weeks ago and it's been going pretty darn good. I can pretty much eat what I want but still trying to be as healthy as possible and make sure I stay within my calorie limit of the day so I can still lose weight. I also have been trying to stay active by walking every other day or so...maybe throw in some pilates. I'm starting to see some progress and I'm feeling better about myself cause I'M DOING IT...FINALLY!
I went to this website http://nutrition.about.com/od/change...a/calguide.htm and took the little quiz on calorie and nutrient guide for women. There has been some controversy on how accurate it is but it's definitely given me an idea and some place to start. I hope this helps ya some...you can do it!

Well I've done calorie counting before and I found it to be a little bit of hassel and I didn't see any results. I'm going to give it a shot again. Monday morning starts Calorie Counting and me.

Where is Susan B?

Anything worth doing is going to be a hassle. Nothing comes easy.

It's a hassle being overweight. You just have to ask yourself what hassle you'd rather deal with.

Good luck.

I think in order for you to obtain longterm success, and of course that's what you want, you really can't look at this as some temporary "diet". Diets have beginnings and ends. You don't want this to end. That's how the weight comes back on. You want it to continue - forever and ever. That would be a lifestyle change. A new outlook towards food. It is not their to entertain, console or just eat for the sake of it. It is used for fuel and nutrition. Yes, it can and should be enjoyable as well. There are plenty of delcious and nutritious foods that will help you to lose weight.

It is possible to exercise and eat what you want within reason. But in my opinion this won't get you the result you want. I think you need to decide if you are willing to make sacrifices to get what you want. A thinner, happier, healthier, more active and productive life. That is what you want, don't you? So by giving up the high quanties of "bad" food, what are you really giving up? Nothing. The benefits far outweight the sacrifices.

You said that you've tried calorie counting before and it doesn't work. It DOES work if you stick with it. You must find something that you can stick to, because that's the only way something will work. STICKING TO IT. Eating less and moving more will result in weightlosss. It just has to be continued. And you have to give it 150% effort. You have to really, really want it to work. Is it a hassle? At times. Maybe. But like Diva said, so is being overweight. I found that to be a greater hassle then counting calories. A much, much, much bigger hassle. Actually calling it just "a hassle" doesn't even begin to explain just how horrible I felt being so overweight. I'll take the calorie counting any day, every day in fact.

Calorie counting definitely works-you just have to decide if changing your lifestyle is more imporant, or staying overweight is.

Changing anything about our lives is a "hassle", but it is a choice we have to make. I would love to eat whatever I wanted, never exercise, and be the picture of health and fitness-but guess what-it doesn't happen.

If exercising, and watching my portions-and making BETTER food choices is all I have to do to get fit, stave off diabetes, and look and feel better-than it is worth the hassle. :)

Not much that I can add, I think everyone has covered everything. There are groups here that can help you a lot by giving you support, tips and sharing this new adventure with you. I have found it in many of the wonderful people here and a support group makes a world of difference.

Working ;)

kiwichic 03-22-2007 12:17 AM

Before I had kids I didn't find calorie counting such a chore and it did work as I got down from a size 16 to a 12. Arrrrr yes me, I was a 12 :)
but now it is more of a chore and I am finding it hard to get into it again.
Been a few years...
What I would like is a buddy for daily accountability, any one keen ? it really would help to get started.
Just making it a habit again and fitting it back into my daily life.
I know it works because it is just to easy to go over your limit , if you are not keeping a check .
Give it some time to get into the groove lookingforhope16, as Commander Peter Quincy Taggart said "never give in , never surender "

Sorry just a movie I love because it's so funny ( Galaxy quest)

aphil 03-22-2007 08:44 AM

I love Galaxy Quest, too!!!!!!

(DH and I are in the 501st, so we are often working security, etc. at conventions-and this movie was a GREAT parody of them!!!)

Come and join us over in Calorie Counter chat! We would love to have you!!! I have three young kids, btw-so I can totally relate!

kiwichic 03-22-2007 03:50 PM

Hi aphil thanks.
Can you tell me what 501st is ?
cheers

aphil 03-22-2007 03:59 PM

Oh-we are the "real" stormtroopers/Darth Vaders/Imperial Officers/Boba Fetts/"insert other Star Wars bad guy here" worldwide organization-the ones with all the real working to scale equipment/voice changers/etc. (not the cheap Halloween quality costumes-the real stuff)

We work security and escort celebs at conventions, Star Wars promotions liek dvd or toy releases/film releases, etc. some of the 501st were in the Rose Bowl parade this year...we do a lot of charity work as well.

kiwichic 03-22-2007 04:10 PM

wow is this a full time job ? must be so much fun

aphil 03-22-2007 04:17 PM

Naw...I am a belly dance instructor, and my husband is an engineer. In our local garrison we have a member of a rock band, a physician, an airline pilot, a graphic designer, a retail manager...we come from all walks of life.

The charity events we do obviously free of charge...the promotional events we end up getting perks for lots of times, but not pay.

It is a lot of fun, but it is a labor of love. We spend a lot of time, a lot of work making them, and money on the costumes and equipment.

LookingForHope16 03-26-2007 05:13 AM

While I understand that you girls are attempting to help me, not everyone has the results that you do with weight loss.

I would suggest when trying to give advice, think about the hardships that someone may be dealing with in their journey.

Susan B, I pmed you and I hope you don't mind.
