question re protien vs fat vs carbs
Does anyone know where I can find info or know info about how much of my diet should be protien, fat, and carbs or whatever breakdown it is?
Ive just started using the fitday site. It's pretty great. |
this is a dangerous question ;)
There are a lot of opinions on this topic. You will see answers ranging all over the spectrum. The basics are calories in/calories out = weight loss. The only difference from a weight loss perspective is how certain ratios make you feel (full/hungry, energetic/tired etc) so that you can happily continue on eating lower calories forever. I would suggest tracking your food for awhile and see where you fall and then tweaking it a bit to see how you respond. In general I think most would agree that aiming for the healthiest sources of all 3 will do you the most good. |
Depends on how you live.
Run a lot? More carbs Lift a lot? More protein Sit a lot? Have no idea |
there are lots of answers to this question. If you're looking for a starting place, I believe the US govt general recommendations are to get 20-30% of your calories from fat, 10-20% from protein and the remaining calories from carbs (carbs are high not only in bread, pasta and rice, but also fruits and vegetables).
That's just a starting place. As you go along, you may find it becomes important TO YOU to focus on other ratios (and other aspects of your diet). But logging your food in fitday and just seeing the numbers can be really eye-opening! |

~115 grams of protein ~135 carbs ~35 fat 1400 calories I think she's going to whittle away a few carbs and some calories this week. My goal is to drop 20 pounds of fat and look hot in a bikini this summer, which means firming everything up, so I do weight training 4 times a week. |
I've read in quite a few places that it's easier to lose weight consistently with less than 55% of your daily calories coming from carbs. I try to go for 50% carbs, 20% fat, 30% protein...but you know, a lot rougher than such clean figures. :p :)
