Yesterday was day one!

Hi everybody,
So, yesterday i started my calorie counting and exercise diet. I am very excited about it this time (I say this time because...I have battled and will always battle with this weight...anyway). I have been successful with WW before (41 lbs being my best run) and this time i am trying it on my own with the knowledge that the WW program has given me. I am trying an exercise routine on a stationary bike plus a 1200 calorie/day diet. What do you other "calorie counters" think? Is 1200/day a good start? I tried to look at my old WW points and base it off of that.

Wish me luck! I am ready. I am so sick of feeling trapped under all this extra weight!

Thanks,
Lisa :carrot:

1200 is the lowest calorie range that you really want to be in, and since you are currently 210, I would take it a little higher-probably more like 1500-1600 a day instead.

As you lose weight, your body will need less fuel. When you stop losing weight on 1500-1600 a day (at 1-2 pounds per week on average) for a few weeks, then you can drop down by 100 a day to get things going again. If you start out at 1200 now, then you don't have anywhere to drop to 20 or 30 pounds down the line. :)

Welcome!!!!

Welcome to 3FC and calorie counters. Pop on in to our chat.

I agree with Aphil. I would start at about 1400 or so. Maybe even 1400 a couple of days and a couple of days at 1500 or so. I think 1200 is a bit drastic to begin with. Will that be enough to keep you satisfied? It also doesn't leave much wiggle room for the time when you get stuck and need to take it down a drop. Trial and error is the best way to figure out what you need to be satisfied with and what you can lose with. Good luck to you.

Hi Lisa, I will join you on your thread if I may. I have been up and down with my weight since my teens. Am in my early sixties, and my most recent successful run was 45 lbs., but can't seem to keep it off. :(

I like walking, water aerobics and am trying to make myself start on the weight machines!!!! I am retired and able to travel pretty frequently so that's a problem for me. I am 5' 9", and try to stay at about 1500 calories. I got a long walk in today, so that's a good start.

I will be right here working hard with you, if that's okay! :) Have a good day tomorrow!

Welcome Ifweens and babs!

I agree that Ifweens' intended calories are too low. Babs seems to have a good plan. I think starting weight, height and definitely age have a lot to do with the daily calorie number. Also, activity level and the number of calories you were eating BEFORE you started your plan are also relevant factors.

Looking forward to hearing how things are going for you ladies :)

confused

I have been surfing around this website for the first time today. I have not been able to find where one puts in a picture or a weight chart line yet. If anyone can help with that I would appreciate it. I went on the website someone suggested regarding how many calories a day would be good for me. It said 1185 to lose a pound a week without exercise. Now I just read you shouldn't go below 1200.. help!

Your calorie level will depend on many factors-I just sent you another pm. :)
