Becky, I can totally relate to you !! I try not to go to a restaurant where if they don't have their menu and nutrition info online :)

If I take a bite of something that I'm baking to make sure it isn't gross before I give it as a gift, etc. (banana bread, cookies, etc.), I spend 10 minutes on fitday to figure out how many calories it is -- I guess the chew/spit approach would work better :D I think fitday should have something in their exercise log to calcuate how many calories you burn entering in fitday!!!

When you buy something that is made up of multiple components, some more caloric than others....like trail mix, or those deadly good valdosta pecans mixed with cranberries. You know that although 1 oz has 160 calories (for example), that isnt really true because sometimes you get an ounce that is high in one ingredient (like pecans) and sometimes you get an ounce that is high in another (like cranberries). So you make sure that no one in the house eats from the package you opened so that in the end all your ounces average out. (assuming the factory is reasonably consistant.)

Hi ennay........... I can relate to this one, sometimes I'll make a 100 calorie bag of popcorn and DH will come by and grab a handful of popcorn. This irks me because I have to record 100 calories on Fitday, but cheated out of the food. The same goes for a side dish, last night I made oriental stir fry with 1 Tablespoon of olive oil. I needed to eat exactly 1/2 of it for my calorie count of vegetables/olive oil to come out. I usually divide it in the wok and dish up first. Last night DH dished up first and I was left floundering as to how much to eat.:(

And here I thought I was the only one on the face of the earth who worried about whether to taste during food prep or not. I make my DH taste it usually. :D He's trying to lose weight too, but he gets a lot more calories per day than I do.

You ask the waiter for the ingredient list before you order. They'll do it, too. And I tip well (or make the guy I'm with tip well).

;-)

Ok I am not feeling so bad anymore, I thought I was the only one.

I weigh and measure everything and make sure its right on the mark.
I carry a flash drive that has my calorie journal on it and make sure its up to date. Gives total cals/deficit/deficit for week.
I religiously read labels.
I check restaurants out on line in advance so I make the best choices.
This is taboo but I weigh daily and track it.
Spend tons of time of different web pages getting tips.
Avoid meals that have everything mixed together because what if I get extra carbs or protein an my measurements are off. YICKS!

Measure out the peanut butter with a tablespoon, then add .10 to fitday for the eensy weensy bit I licked off my fingers.

As I'm reading the never-changing, often-checked labels in the grocery store, say "Oh, NO WAY" out loud, then put it back and shake my head.

I check out restaurants websites ahead of time and know exactly what I'm going to order. Dressing on the side.

Canceled the fancy birthday lunch (that was in my honor) because there was nothing on the restaurant's menu that fit into my plan. Ordered Subway instead. (Thanks Jared!) I didn't even feel bad. It was my birthday. :D

I got called obsessive for pre-planning my order the other day...but I always do it. I like knowing exactly what the plan is. Makes me happy.

Theresa ~ Most chain restaurants do have menus on line. Just google the name of the restaurant. You can also google calorie count and lots of free web pages will come up. I am not sure if we are suppose to post things like that here. I see it as an adventure.

I am sooo with you gals on these things. Especially with memorizing calories in foods. When I sit down to a meal I think I could probably estimate its calories with 20 (mind you, it's usually whole foods). I love reading nutrition labels too, BluetoBlue!!

I measure cookies and cinnamon buns with a ruler!

Hey, if it's that high in calories and fat I want to know the truth about its size. Sometimes I say that I've eaten 2 cookies medium sized cookies instead of 1 large cookie just so the cookie I ate is more accurately represented. :p

mandalinn82 03-22-2007 04:51 PM

I measure the sourdough rolls I get my deli sandwiches on...and then fitday it with the precise number of cubic inches.

Neko 03-22-2007 08:57 PM

Clipping the nutritional information on the back of a microwave dinner so I can take it home and enter it in my fitday account. I knew I couldn't remember all those facts for a couple of hours.

Buying a digital scale to measure in grams and ounces just so I'm accurate.

Counting calories too even though I'm on South Beach. :o
