Nike iPod online challenge?

I saw on the Exercise thread here that the newest "game" challenge is using a digital pedometer that communicates wirelessly to your ipod nano, then your nano posts the results on your computer...and your computer uploads the results to a website where you and your "team" can keep track of how many miles you've gone.

It's not the *most* accurate device since it's just a pedometer that relies on equal stride distance, but it does sound like a fun way to keep motivated, especially for those of us in 5k training. (It works on a treadmill too.)

I already have an ipod nano, and the chip is just $30 (you don't have to buy the $100 shoes - you can put it on your own shoes). They are starting a challenge in the Exercise forum, just curious if anyone else in THIS thread is interested?

:tread:

I would love to do this but I'm already working out with my HRM and it gives me all the info I need. One more gadget strapped/tied/mounted to me and I'll have the alarms sounding like crazy!

And what, exactly, would the challenge be? To run? Or to run with the Nano?

As it is, it seems that so many threads are redundant (Cool Runners, Ladies Who Lift, January Challenge) that I find myself posting the same info all over the map. You guys will get sick of me in no time reading the same stuff everywhere you turn! :-p

I wear my heart monitor too, as a "watch" device. I wear my nano ipod when I work out anyway. The chip just goes on your shoe, it isn't some huge thing, so for me it isn't much of a difference in equipment.

The point would be if you like to participate in group "challenges", except rather than just a number you see on the scale, you go for the distance you've walked/jogged/ran. You can challenge each other or make a group goal, depends what the interest is.

It's just a cute little device that is supposed to motivate by making exercise fun.

Ahh, SB...

That makes sense. You're more likely to go run your miles when you know your team is counting on you.

If it's a team, I'll sign up.

If they need someone to tally up weekly miles, I'll volunteer do a team or two.

This could be fun!

That's the fun part - you don't have to tally it up - the ipod uploads your information to the nike website and the website keeps track of everything!
