Surgery to remove excess skin

Hi,

This might be the wrong thread for this but I thought I'd start here. This doesn't involve my own weight loss experience, but that of my older sister who has lost about 325 pounds, and is now, for the first time since she was 12, under 200 pounds. She has lots of excess skin and thinks it probably weighs another 25-30 pounds and is curious about having it removed - when to remove it (what if she loses more weight? Will any of this spring back?) and what the details are. She's 53.

Thanks for any help!

Daisy

Hi Daisy! I moved your thread here because we have a whole subforum to deal with what happens to our bodies and heads after weight loss. :)

Take a look at this sticky: Weight Loss And Skin FAQs and maybe it will answer some of your questions.

My suggestion for your sister is to make an appointment with a plastic surgeon for a consultation to get some answers to her questions. Her weight loss is just amazing and I suspect that only someone who's skilled in dealing with such large weight losses is going to be able to give her the information that she needs.

Congratulations to your sister and :cp: to you for being such a good sister!

What a wonderful FAQ. I'm sharing that with her today.

you are a grea sister!
I would send you over the the make me heal forum, there is a subforum for all kinds of PS and you might get better answers over there. Look through the theads and see if some of your questions are answered.

I would certainly look for a board certified PS who specializes in these kinds of surgeries and if your sister had some kind of WLS (don't know) they may have a few recomendations for you.
