feet ?

right now i wear a wide shoe size and i was wondering has anyone feet shrunk after a big weight loss ?

Thighs Be Gone 10-11-2009 12:44 PM

Hey Barbie.

Mine went from 8 1/2 Regular to 9 Narrow. Supposedly, because I became a runner, my arch dropped and elongated my foot. Also, when I was a teen and young woman, I always wore a narrow so it may be that I was destined to be a narrow at a healthy weight.

But, yes you can definitely expect shrinkage from all over your body--even your foot.

CountingDown 10-11-2009 12:49 PM

I went from an 8W to a 7 or 7 1/2 regular.

KforKitty 10-11-2009 12:58 PM

I never had large feet but have gone from a 7W to a 6.5 sometimes regular sometimes still wide.

At 330 pounds I was wearing a 8.5W, now I am wearing 7.5 regular

beautifulone 10-11-2009 02:50 PM

YES :D

At my highest weight, I was wearing a 10W. This was mostly casual shoes - any dress shoes or shoes that are usually more narrow by nature, I couldn't wear. Not being able to find shoes to wear was one of the major instigators to me losing weight. Health, clothing, my sense of self all were as well - but shoes were one of the immediate, urgent reasons. You cannot go through life without shoes, and I was having a very hard time finding shoes I could wear.

I am THRILLED to say that 50 pounds down, I can comfortably slip my foot into most 9.5 casual shoes. Occasionally, if the make of the shoe is small, then it'll be a 10. But these are shoes I wouldn't have been able to wear before. And now I can.

I would be thrilled - and hope - that at my goal weight, I will be wearing size 8s. I'll be surprised if the jump is that great, but I remember wearing 8s when I was younger so it might be possible.

bargoo 10-11-2009 03:43 PM

I was wearing 8-9 and now wear 7-71/2.

Amy Blue 11-09-2009 07:24 AM

I hope so! At my lightest (14st / 196lbs) I was wearing a size 8 regular (UK). Right now I'm wearing a size 9-9.5 wide (UK). I'm hoping that by the time I reach my goal of 10st / 140lbs, I'll go down by at least another half size from where I was at my lightest (so, 7.5 reg).

ICUwishing 11-09-2009 02:25 PM

It doesn't seem to take all that much - I went from a 9W to a 9 1/2 regular in the span of only 20#. I don't have the running/arch thing to fall back on ala TBG's post, but that explanation does make a lot of sense! I have noticed that with the weight loss, I'm a LOT finickier about how my clothes fit. Possibly my foot size didn't change, but I became a lot more aware of how my shoes fit too?

Windchime 11-09-2009 03:25 PM

I've gone from a wide to a regular width. I don't expect my foot to change length at all but it would sure be a nice suprise if it did!

Lori Bell 11-10-2009 08:53 AM

I've gone from a 10W and sometimes 11W to a 9 to 9.5 regular. It's kind of a drag, because the one thing I never skimped on is shoes, and I have some pretty neat shoes that are too big now.

rockinrobin 11-10-2009 08:59 AM

I went from a 9WW, that's right DOUBLE wide to either a 9 regular or a 8 or 8 1/2 wide. So yes, they got smaller and way slimmer, but I wouldn't have minded even more of a loss in that area. Oh well.

Oh and even my earlobes lost weight. Really, everything shrunk. My hats became too large on me.

Thighs Be Gone 11-10-2009 09:04 AM

I was 8.5 regular and went to 9N. Yep, my feet got longer.

MindiV 11-10-2009 09:05 AM

I didn't have wide feet even...and I went from a 9-9.5 to an 8 or 8.5....

nelie 11-10-2009 10:41 AM

My feet are still wide, maybe just slightly less wide but I went from wearing an 11WW to wearing a 9/9.5 W.

Mine too! I've told this story 100 times, but just before I lost weight my DH gave me some diamond earrings for Christmas...they looked so small on my big ears. I secretly called him a tightwad...;) NOW, they look huge on my delicate little lobes. :D

Glory87 11-10-2009 09:21 PM

Ha :) I have told Jason he made out like a bandit on my engagement ring because my wee tiny child fingers make my diamond look HUGE! :)

Personally, I went from an 8.5 to an 8 in the shoe size.

I had to replace every item of clothes in my closet, except for socks.

nelie 11-10-2009 09:46 PM

My fingers have really shrunk. I used to wear a size 12 ring, now I think I'm a 7 or 7.5

scowling 03-25-2010 06:27 PM

Yep! After 30 pounds lost, I'm back to a size 5.5 from a 6. Which is nice, I guess, except that I had to replace a lot of really quality shoes. And I REALLY hope that I don't go to a size 5 when I hit my goal in 20 more pounds, but that's where I was as a teenager. It is IMPOSSIBLE to find shoes that small, though, so I'm scared.

My wedding ring is also just about to fall off. I keep thinking that I need to take it and get it sized, or just take it off until I do. I'm going to lose it one of these days.

WarMaiden 03-25-2010 06:40 PM

I was wearing a 10W to 11W, now I am apparently in a 9.5 regular. It's a little eerie, but awesome, because I could never find shoes I wanted to wear that would fit me...and now I can!

sweetnlow28 04-06-2010 06:58 PM

This is great news! I have been in a wide width for so long now. Everybody knows that wide widths are expensive and hard to come by. I really hope to go from a 9W back into a pre-pregnancy 8.5 regular :)

FeliciaHingston 04-06-2010 07:37 PM

This thread motivates me even more. I was a size 6 before I gained and I'm now a 7.5 which means my sisters can now borrow my shoes. I'd to go back down.

lora m 04-08-2010 06:57 AM

My feet have always been narrow, even when my ankles were fatter and my ring sizes went up. However, in the last year or so I've gone from an 8 (UK sizing) to 9 which is tricky as most shops here go up to 8. Thankfully I've now found a couple of places that sell 9s, (Next and Long Tall Sally). I am not a runner but think that there must have been some flattening out of my arches since this is happening in middle age.

joyebb 04-16-2010 11:06 AM

I went from an 11 wide to a 10. I still buy some shoes in 11, but those I never would have worn at all 6 months ago. My daughter, who is destined to be at least my height (5'10") or taller wears an 11 at age 12. She has a heckuva time shopping for shoes and would obviously rather not do it. I've had this discussion with many other moms and dads with kids her age. Lots of them have large feet and will need larger sizes. It seems that the only place that goes beyond an 11 is Payless. Sorry for the O/T rant...
