Skin issue question

I'm not sure where else to put this - maybe a mod will move it, if it needs to be moved! :)

Like a lot of us who are older and who are losing 100+ lbs, I have some skin issues, mostly around my tummy. I know that my skin has lost a lot of elasticity as I've aged. I know that it'll take a year or so for whatever skin shrinkage that's going to happen to really complete and that I need to wait some time before getting "worried" about it. I also know that there is probably going to be surgery in my future to tighten and tuck some things, when I've been maintaining for a while. I'm cool with all of that and I don't really have unreasonable expectations there (I don't think I do, anyway).

However, in the meanwhile, I was wondering if it would be beneficial and help the saggy tummy skin a little bit to maybe wear some foundation garments - tummy shapers and so forth - that would lift and compress the skin around my middle?

I was thinking of getting a Spanx body slimmer and wearing it during the day. In combination with my usual vitamin-e moisturizing routine (to help keep down the stretch marks), I was thinking this might help my skin not droop so much.

Anyone have any thoughts on that? Anyone done anything like it before?

Good question

About thirty years ago even doctors would recommend that a woman wear a girdle after having a baby. I haven't thought about doing that but I don't know why it wouldn't be worth a try. I guess, I just wouldn't like how that feels if I wore it all the time although some older women used to wear girdles all the time.

In fact, when I was in high school we used to wear panty hose under our jeans. I can't imagine any of the younger girls doing that any more. We just thought wearing shoes without a sock was sort of "in bad taste" or "vulgar".

Well, after you have tried it, let the rest of us know how it works out.

Ha. It was my mother-in-law who suggested it to begin with.

I'm going to try it anyway. We'll see if it makes a difference.

wow this makes me think of something that happened to me after my first kid.....i had had her c section and as i was walking the halls as they make you do. i seen a lady in the hall she had been seeing her daughter i think she had seen me with my pillow and all trying to walk . she said in her county they wrap up the belly after having a baby or surgery. i really did not say much thank you and went on my way. may be the old lady new what she was talking about after all. i have so much lose skin from that c section and well needless to say 2 more babies did not help it.

Why not try it? It can't hurt, and most people say the Spanx are pretty comfy to wear every day.

Just don't get anything with boning in it. I used to wear a high rise girdle with boning in it and it would dig under my ribcage when sitting down. But even if it doesn't help in the long run...at least you won't feel like you have alot of rolls in all the wrong places.

I wore spanx to my sons wedding, I was miserable all day and night long. I tried them on last week and they felt so much better. I guess I had actually gotten them on the tight side.I wear a panty girdle anytime I dress up. I have lost and regained 90lbs before and I am starting to loose it again. I know my skin has changed. I can already tell that it is not going to tighten up as much as I would like for it to do. I still had rather have skin issues than fat issues. Good luck with the spanx and make sure you get a good fit to start with. Also in the old days women wore gorsettes daily. My grandmother would have not left the house without her girdle.
