You guys are just the best and I mean the very best. I'm back from a
WalMart run and I found just the thing. It is a case with a clip on the back so I can clip it onto my pants. Now if I could just figure out how to download. OK, I am sure I'll figure it out - I just get so impatient. I also have a new digital camera and I am on digital intruction book overload. I will say the iPod came with minimal instructions. Have a call in to DD who will teach me. I got the 30GB Black iPod.
Have a great weekend and I am in agreement about 3 day weekends.
On the weight thing. I know you guys are supportive - I HATE going up so much it is hard to admit to myself even. But that, I fear, is the very worst way to be. Own it and move on which is what I am trying to do. I know how it might sound when I go on about what I like about my body but I know you guys get it. Today I wore sleeveless muscle shirt type top and man, if I could just get the fat off, I have some gorgeous muscles. I acually liked looking at my shoulders and chest while I lifted today. Beautiful strong muscles buried under there.

I totally get this - coulda written it myself! I have a bunch of tank tops for working out - I like checking out my muscles, too! Oh...I mean, I'm checking my form. Apparently others are checking your form - that's so she thought you were a trainer!
Cindy - it must be quite an education but this "You on a Diet" thing sounds pretty logical. In a way you are eliminating most of the really troublesome foods from your diet....is it hard to eat out though?
I was rereading your comments about shin splints...what kind of shoes are you wearing? Another possibility might be to go shorter amounts of time - like 4 15 minute walks instead of 2 30 minute walks....just a thought. Have you been using the treadmill for a long time? Maybe you just need to work in the muscles - I used to have pain there as well...but it went away after I had been walking a while. I used to wear birkenstocks to walk - they helped a lot with heel pain. Now I'm wearing merrells. I only walk like 1/2 an hour a day lately tho.

Morning all - how was your weekend? Mine was actually good in terms of sticking to it. Friday night was party night but I was able to switch it off pretty early. Lower weight than Fri. morning today so I am calling it a success. I went to my gym twice yesterday. 45 min. cardio in the afternoon. I was just remembering that an extra cardio session was what seemed to give me that extra push last summer so I am going for it. At least until I wear myself out. Just couldn't take the not shopping anymore so yesterday afternoon I went to TJMaxx to see if I could find some bargains. I bought new workout clothes. Yay! My old stuff was old and faded and worn out. So now I have some fresh duds and they were cheap too.

Morning gals!
Ok, I am going to bite the bullet and do Jillian's 12-week exercise program. One question I have is about the circuits. So, if for circuit 1 there are 2 excercises listed, you do 15 of one, then 15 of the other, and repeat twice, to get your 3 sets of 15? And then you move to circuit 2?
Or, do you do the whole thing, circuits 1-4 (or are there 5?), and then repeat that whole thing twice?
I had a food mutiny at home - no dinner for DF two days in a row, because ground turkey in the soup, and the cod is rubbery. It really steams me when I spend time cooking and he refuses to eat after one bite. I made the cod because he said he liked it, and apparently he didn't know that it is a firm fish. Guess all that batter and frying disguises that! This really makes thing difficult for me - refusing to cook for him will just send him to fast food and restaurants, which I don't want. But, I want to get more poultry and fish into my diet - we eat too much beef. Men are such a pain sometimes!
I'm racking up the miles, but the scale isn't moving, which is why I'm going to do the Jillian thing. I intend to keep up the walking as well. My shins are doing better as I've been doing flexes and foot circles to keep them stretched. I'll be on the elliptical soon, and that won't aggravate them as much.
My food has still been pretty clean, but now I think it's time to work on portion control - too much of a good thing is still too much!

Cindy-This MIGHT be man pleaser. Have you seen the turkey/chicken italian sausages. They come in different flavors and are next to the breakfast sausage section at my store. I have had them w/ marinara or just heated with saurkraut. It feeds that meat hunger and is easy. I also use Lara's lean ground beef a lot in chili. IMO, it is ok to modify diets a little as long as you stay in the same general calorie and nutrient range.
I do 1 set of each circuit and then repeat it 3 times before moving to the next circuit.
ex.
flys
squats
cardio
repeat
repeat
biceps
cardio
crunches
repeat
repeat
(Just making those sequences up as I don't have my book with me. Hope that is clear.)

Got it about the workouts - thanks!
Yes, I discovered some chicken sausages just this weekend. I did them on the GF grill, but they were a bit dry, due to the lack of fat. So, I think I'll try some of the other in a more moist dish to make up for that.
But, I think we'll be having something with ground beef tonight.

...well 2 times, I repeat it 2 times. Unless it is week 3 and 4 when you do two sets of 15 reps. I think all the other weeks it is 3 sets of 12.
And I meant to also congratulate you on deciding to do her workouts. You'll kind of hate it, but you'll really love it too.

Good morning gals! I graduated to the elliptical for my cardio today - I did 1.5 miles on that, then the remaining 0.5 on the treadmill. The elliptical distance took less time, but was a much better workout as I got my heart rate up into where it needed to be for that 18 minutes. Soon I hope to do it all on the elliptical - today I ran out of steam.
A few more questions about Jillian's program from her book - do you think it's ok to do the hour of cardio on Wednesday's instead of Saturday's? I like to have my weekends off!
Also, what do you gals think would be a good substitute for all the squats? I've got pretty bad knees, especially at this higher weight, and I just can't do full squats without hurting myself.
My good news for today was that the scale at the gym was down 1# from last week. My scale at home is so inconsistent that I don't want to use it anymore. Switching scales is messing up my ticker, but oh well. I think this one is more accurate.
So, feeling much better about things today - I hate the emotional rollercoaster this can be sometimes. Allows for lapses in determination!
Anyway, hope everyone is having a good Tuesday!

Thought of another question - can these workouts be done in an hour? I just need to have an idea so that I can get to the gym early enough to finish and get to work on time.
Also - can someone share with me how to be able to listen to Jillian's radio show? I've not been able to find it in our archives here.
Thanks!

Cindy - I have a hard time getting it done in an hour. Weeks 3 and 4 yes, the other weeks take from 1 and a 1/4 to 1 and a 1/2 for me. But maybe I am just slow. I am not sure about the squat substitutes - do a little research on that or maybe someone else here knows. Glad you are feeling better today. I'll write more tonight, kinda a fly by post from work right now.

Cindy -
The hour of cardio could be done any day....it's the weight training that needs to be staggered to make sure your muscles have 72 hrs to recover before they are worked out again. Substitutes for squats....hmm...do you have a ball? Hack squats might be easier on your knees....or wall squats...or machines at the gym designed to work the legs. Or even high resistance on the elliptical....
As for how to download Jillian's show, go to the website for KFI AM 640. Click on press pass and select KFi on demand. It makes you sign up - but I haven't gotten extra spam that i know of from it. (I always uncheck the boxes that say I want them to send me emails). Once you are registered you will see a download button - I save the file to my desktop. Then I can listen whenever I want. (you can listen from the site as well...but it didn't work as well for me.)

Thanks Gina - I downloaded Sunday's show - can't wait to listen to it! I tried to download the podcast, but it didn't work
Only here for a minute to say that my first experience with these workouts kicked my backside! I did the week 1 Thursday workout, in an hour, and I'm exhausted! Not a good way to start my day! But I'm proud I did it. I subbed leg presses (with just the sled) for the squats, but I did the sumo squats. I subbed fast elliptical for the jumping jacks and jumping rope - I was too embarassed to do those in the gym. I can't believe I did 90 crunches this morning!
I'll check in later!
