happydaisy- I'm one day ahead of you. I took my rest day today. I will do day 4 tomorrow. I was so sore today and happy to have the rest. It's good to know that there are others doing the same workouts at the same time as me.

Thanks hatchic. It was so amazing to finally get to the top i thought we would never make it! (i dragged my bro n sis along!) Drenched in sweat by the time we finally got there...
About half way up my bro was cursing Jillian for being a bad influence on me! I just laughed and told him to move his butt!
Have a great new years everyone!

Day 5 of week 9 done...I like that one! How come I like doing the back better than the front? I found I could bump up the poundage with the short number of reps.

Well...I skipped a rest day in an attempt to get my old schedule back...I really liked having Saturday and Sunday as workout days. But my knee is kinda wonky tonight...I taped it up - we'll see how it feels tomorrow. I got through Day one of week 10 just fine - I ended up at a different gym because my regular gym was closed for New Years. Maybe a different gym every once in a while is a good thing - breaks up the routine. And they had different machines....as long as I scout out what I'm doing before I warm up!
Don't even look at my Fitday journal...I was attacked by peach pie a la mode...angel eyes will vouch for me - it wasn't my fault!

Today is a rest day for me. I have completed the first week and will start week 2 tomorrow. Question for those that have Jillian's DVDs. Can I substitute Shape Up Front for a frontside workout. I'm dying to try the DVD, but don't want to mess up my circuit schedule from the book either. I bought her 5DVD set. I did Cardio Kickbox yesterday for my cardio, but had to add about 30 minutes on the treadmill too.

Hi Shauna,
I wish Jillian weren't M.I.A. down under so she could answer this in person! I'm going to have to take a guess here...
I think, and correct me people if I'm wrong, that a circuit workout from Jillian's book takes an hour. The DVDs are only 30 mins. I use the DVDs for two reasons: one, I hate looking at a book and trying to guess at what I'm doing, and two, I can't last an hour. (I can't even last 30 mins at the moment!) If you can last an hour and can devote an hour, I'd say don't substitute. However, just to confuse you further - DO substitute the 30 min DVD for a 1 hour workout if your only alternate is not doing any workout at all!

SmartButt- So should I do the DVD twice? LOL Thanks for your response. I agree with you on the book workouts. They do take about 60 minutes and I know I would be compromising my workout if I did the DVD. I know I would have to add on too. Darn, I wish Jillian were around to help!
ETA- Couldn't I just repeat some parts of the Shape Up DVD to make it longer. It seems like her reps are about 10 instead of 15 like in the book, but also, I could do a whole round of the circuits again, if I am still standing. Yesterday I did Cardio Kickbox and the Low Intensity of Bob's Biggest Loser DVD back to back. Hmmm????

If you can repeat parts of either of the Shape up Front/Back videos, I seriously will bow to you in awe of your greatness. They are very intense workouts. I would actually love to know how she would compare her book work outs to the DVDs. (Again, where are you when we need you, Jillian?? hehehe) When she starts out doing the jogging/knee lifts, I'm already about to die within 30 seconds.
But I've got a new mentality I'm going to stick with for a while... as bizarre as this may sound... I figure that if I am winded quickly it's obviously a sign that I'm not in shape and have a LONG way to go... and I figure that means by the time I CAN do the workouts, I'll be losing weight left and right because my body will be working so much more efficiently. So in some ways I'm actually happy to know my body COULD work much better and burn fat much faster than it does now. Does that make any sense to anyone else but me?

It makes complete sense and thanks for your help. That is why I am so curious to try these darn things! I don't know what I'm capable of yet. I know that by the end of the circuits in the book, I'm begging for mercy.

Clear as mud, Smartbutt! JK - it actually did make sense...
I dug up a post from Jillian herself - it was actually a good read going back through the Questions for Jillian thread. Here's the link

You asked me if the videos are enough... the only thing I don't like about the videos is that they are 30 minutes. I had to do that because the marketing shows that people who work out at home won't commit to anything longer. Whatever... if you can add a little cardio after doing the video... or, one thing I tell people to do is to do each circuit one more time. In other words, rewind the dvd after you have done the circuit twice and do one extra set of every thing. This way you are doing everything three times not two times. If not, it's still an *** kicker. Don't worry about it.
It breaks my heart to hear you say you are discouraged... why? You are doing everything right... and even if you weren't who cares. Your human - you SUPPOSED TO MAKE MISTAKES. Mistakes are nothing but learning experiences. But you are not even making any mistakes. Buddy, for reals... you need to have a little perspective and give yourself a HUGE PAT ON THE BACK.
xoxo

p.s. Sending many pats on the back with hugs too from here on my sofa... (Bob says I am not allowed to say couch anymore). So is my dog. He's sending them too.

I would also like to hear a comparison between the book workout and the dvd's...
