Are you telling me none of those people were at or near having Type II diabetes? All of the must have high BP. Most are probably on multiple meds.

I remember from last year's show when Gary won a challenge and received a visit from his wife. The first thing she did was ask about his asthma(sp?) and high BP, and all this other stuff. It was a big emotional moment when she found out that ALL of his health problems were gone. THAT was inspirational. You could see how excited both of them were.

I think more people need to realize that obesity doesn't just create social problems like not looking fit.

Total agreement with every point you make, skinnyjeans!

patient privacy issues? They can't publish that info on medical stats. without the patient (contestant) consent....

I wouldn't want my medical history being known either. Would you want your employer to know if you were hypertensive or borderline diabetic? No way, because although it's illegal, you might be the first one voted off the jobsite (for another reason of course they'd say----like downsizing) because you would be prone to more illness, missing work time......
(yes, I know i'm sounding like a paranoid.....but just showing other options why)

a few years ago i joined a weightloss clinic. the day before i was to begin eating on their program, they had me binge. (they called it "load.") the reasoning they had was that i would get things "out of my system" and also that i would have a huge loss at my first weigh in several days later.

i'm not saying i agree with that. i'm just saying that's what they did. maybe that's why they had the pigout on bl.

ps: i didn't like watching the bingeing either.

I would think that high blood pressure would be an issue too, just by the size of the contestants. But like someone said, that is not something that has to be disclosed. It would mean that they have to be watched very closed with that strenuous exercise they are doing. The incident with Jillian racing them at their max has been brought up before as a health risk. Which I still don't uderstand why they pushed them that far?
Do you chicks have a favorite off each team?
For the guys I like Matt or Jeff
For the girls, I'm not sure yet. I was thinking Jen, but she seemed to whine alot last week.

ontarget 09-22-2005 04:21 PM

i haven't decided on a favorite lady yet either. right now i like matt and jeff best of the guys.

marbleflys 09-22-2005 04:23 PM

Dr. Jeff of course--I gotta go with my homeboy and I like Suzy (with the glasses, she's the hairdresser). I don't like Suzanne, but can't figure out why....must be the licking fountain incident....

Star 09-22-2005 04:26 PM

"I don't like Suzanne, but can't figure out why....must be the licking fountain incident...." Yeah you wouldn't want to take her anywhere

marbleflys 09-22-2005 04:40 PM

in another thread, I posted about that...imagine being *famous* and being remembered for that.....not huge weight loss accomplishments, stamina or winning your health back. Bet she'll never get offered a contract with 24 hour fitness like Gary did!.

Amarantha2 09-22-2005 07:09 PM

Good point about the medical disclosure. :) No, I wouldn't want to disclose mine to the world, but then neither would I subject myself to the scrutiny of a reality TV audience at the level of out-of-shapeness of these contestants, sweating away, throwing up and wearing gym clothes, all for $250,000.

If I had a favorite, it would be Dr. Jeff. He does seem like the "nicest" person, to me.

The fondue pot licker is annoying, IMO. :)

I'm voting for Dr. Jeff. Although I also like Matt. Both of them need to lose a great deal of weight and seem to be trying very hard. Unfortunately, with his injury I don't think Matt is going to hang in there. I haven't really paid enough attention to the women to be able to choose. Maybe next week I'll bet a better picture.

I have to agree no points for licking the fountain! Bet she thought it was funny, and then...OOPS going to be living it down for awhile. Being afraid of doing something like that is the reason I could never do reality TV.

Marblyfly- Good point on the patient disclosure issue, never thought of that.

Regarding the medical benefits of losing weight, they may be saving that portion for later in the season. They can't give up all the emotional stuff at once. Once the contestents see they are getting healthier as well as thinner, will make a world of difference in their motiviation. But, I still love the show, and it has put me back on the right track with my eating and exercising. I figure if Mo (from last season) can work out 5 hours a day, my little 45 mintues isn't going to kill me!

Isn't that the truth! in a day of 24 hours or 1440 minutes, if we can't do 45-90 minutes of exercise there is definitely something wrong, specially when most of us have sedentary jobs ... Ok off my :soap: ...

I like the cute Doctor  !! He was totally :flame: in the days before his obesity. I like Suzy too... Then Jen "The Med Student" IMO will be kick butt drop dead gorgeous when she loses her weight...

Star 09-23-2005 03:48 PM

Ilene, You know how we use to read 30 minutes of exercise 3 times a week is enuf, the it was 30 mintues a day. Now I heard it's up to 90, which I do an hour and like you said have a desk job, so that's okay.
I like Matt and Dr. Jeff. I did like Jen, but she seemed to whine last week. BUT I think she has a change coming. I also made a bad choice in Kathryn before I knew her knee was messed up - then after I saw her I was glad she got the boot.
