Hooray for sun! We had some this morning, which brightened my mood until I heard that my all time favorite author Maurice Sendak had passed away :(

Otherwise a good day food wise. Let's see if I can stay motivate enough to try a run tonight.

Thank you to everyone sharing nutrition insight. It's good to become knowledgable about what we are using to fuel our bodies.

Thanks! I'm really lucky and my coworkers have all been pretty supportive when I say that I'm trying to eat healthier. I think I even got a couple of other people thinking about starting to walk together during lunch. Now we just need to put that talk into action! :)

It's night time ! This is when the old habits are hard to break for me ! I want to snack ! Think I might have a small 100 calorie bag of JIFFY POP Kettle Pop Corn . I love this stuff !

Dumplin 05-08-2012 09:08 PM

Changed my mind about that Popcorn. Just wrote down what I had eaten over in the Red Team Nutritional Thread and after seeing everything wrote down...... makes me believe I've had enough for today . Goodnight !

CanadaMel 05-08-2012 11:27 PM

Dumplin- way to stay accountable! Good for you.

Well didn't get my run in, but shagged balls while my son practiced baseball- at least got some exercise!

zogo 05-09-2012 07:14 AM

Mel, You're a Good Mom

BigChiefHoho 05-09-2012 07:16 AM

Kind of a rough night for me yesterday. Wound up getting an absolutely wicked headache, so I ate basically nothing but breakfast and a bowl of popcorn. Blech. Hopefully today I can get some REAL food in me!

Dumplin 05-09-2012 08:17 AM

Thanks Mel !

I am having the best Protein Shake right now .....just gotta share with you all !

Chocolate-Banana Protein Shake Recipe

1 cup milk ( I use FF Skim Milk)
1/2 frozen banana
1/2 scoop Julian Michaels Whey Protein
1/4 box sf chocolate pudding (dry mix )

I like to add a little ice to make it thick more like a milk shake ! YUMO

I used my magic bullet .

Happy Wednesday Team!
Busy/long day as I have a school council meeting tonight.

Dumplin- do you find that a shake keeps you full? I find I will not feel full (will continue to eat) if Idon't get the whole 'chewing' satisfaction that goes along with eating.

Big chief- be sure to keep drinking your water. Boo for nasty headaches. I get what are called chinook headaches, when we get big fluctuations in the barometric pressure. Blech!

MapleLeaf- that's great that you have support from coworkers! Support is key.

Have a wonderful day all!

dream710 05-09-2012 10:03 AM

Keep the book recommendations and recipes coming...Love it!

Yesterday wasn't the best day for me. I'm regrouping this morning and making a plan of attack for the rest of the week.

Have a great day Red team!

Dumplin - your post made me laugh. Great job on the willpower that it must have taken to turn it away

Dream710 and Big Chief - hang in there, today will be a better day!!

CanadaMel - I can relate to your baseball "exercise". I was excited to go home last night and go for a good run. I pulled my hamstring on Sunday and I thought it was just feeling well enough that it could take a run. My two year old DD clings to my legs and wants to go with me - so I put her in the jogging stroller. I can still get a good run in, right? As I get out the door my 4 year old DS decides that he wants to come too and ride his bike. OK - maybe I can still run. It took us almost 2 HOURS to go three miles! They stopped to blow on dandelions, talk to dogs behind fences, smell every flower. I finally had to throw my hands up and decide that I just needed to relax and enjoy the simple pleasures of summer that I am rediscovering through my children. I got home and did a quick Turbo Fire workout while they were in the bathtub and called it good!

getmydivaback3 05-09-2012 11:48 AM

I am having a really rough week. Hope my weigh in goes okay, with family issues and this terrible stomach ache I don't really have any motivation to move.

MonteCristo 05-09-2012 12:21 PM

No real workout for me yesterday. I got in my usual 30 min walk at lunch, but when I got home for work I got started on a gender reveal cake for a friend...and it took 4.5 hours. All standing (my feet are killing me, why do I forget to wear shoes?) I even put aside the dishes for later so that I could jump on the elliptical for a bit before bed. Well that lasted exactly 8 minutes before I completely gave out. So I just laid on the floor for a while before showering and going to bed. Still exhausted today...who knew baking was so difficult. But I was too tired to eat dinner also, so I guess that sort of balances out. And I did get all my water in for the first time...it is amazing how thirsty you get from working with fondant/frosting, even though I didn't eat any of it.

I got extra exercise yday ... my two cats decided they wanted to be outside my apt. So I spent 20 mins chasing one, then the other, down the hall, putting them inside, only to have the other one escape.

Sigh.

But another Skinnytaste recipe tonight -- I'm using fresh spinach.

Low Fat Baked Ziti with Spinach

Servings: 8 • Serving Size: 1/8th • Points: 6 pts • Points+: 9 pts
Calories: 331.9 • Fat: 7.1 g • Protein: 17.5 g • Carb: 54.7 g • Fiber: 7.8 g

1 lb high fiber ziti such as Ronzoni Smart Taste
28 oz crushed tomatoes (I prefer Tuttorosso)
1 tsp olive oil
3 cloves garlic,minced
10 oz frozen spinach, thawed
1 tsp oregano
2 tbsp chopped fresh basil
salt and fresh pepper to taste
8 oz fat-free ricotta
1/4 cup Parmesan
2 cups (8 oz) part skim mozzarella
Spray olive oil (I used my Misto)

Preheat oven to 375°.Spray a 9x13-inch baking pan with oil spray.

In a large pot of salted water, cook pasta according to instructions until al dente. Drain and return to pot.

Meanwhile, in a medium saucepan, add olive oil and sauté garlic. Add chopped spinach, salt pepper and chopped tomatoes. Season with basil, oregano, salt and pepper.

Add sauce to the pasta and combine the ziti. Add half of the mozzarella, Parmesan cheese and ricotta. Mix well then transfer to the baking pan.

Pour the pasta mixture into the prepared pan and spread evenly. Top with the remaining mozzarella.

Bake for 30 minutes, or until mozzarella is melted and the edges are lightly browned.
