I use the green bags all the time. I find they keep most produce fresh for about 2 weeks longer than normal. Bananas, I found, do not keep well even though the green bag people will tell you they do. They stay yellow longer but the flesh inside gets really soft. Lettuce/greens/salad fixings do really well. Look in the dollar stores for knock off bags. They work almost as well for a fraction of the cost.

Hi Everyone  I'm so excited about this challenge and being on the Blue Team!!! I've done these challenges before, and see some old teammates here! And am looking forward to getting to know my new teammates.
About me, I'm 46, mom of 2 boys ages 14 and 11, married, 18 yrs in March. I work part time for a book company. I have 2 stores I go to 2x's a week and change out /stock up the hardcovers, paperbacks, young adults, and childrens books. I also babysit on Mondays for a friend whose son is 9 months old, and keeps me busy!! lol I am looking for another part time job too. My weight history was not really losing the "baby fat" after the kids were born. Letting life side track my efforts to lose. So my goal for 2010 is to keep myself a priority, and my workout plan for January is doing my Leslie Sansone walks in the a.m. and my BL 30day jumpstart and bike in the p.m. Oh I also will be starting back at my belly dancing class,:belly: which is once a week. I'll be changing or adding to this plan as the months go on. I also started journaling my food on sparkspeople again, which has been an eye opener!!
 here's to an awesome challenge!!!

That's amazing! Good job!! :carrot:

Well Hello and Happy New Year to everyone!!

I am so glad to be back on the Blue Team hi to all my former teammates and hi to all the newbies.

My name is Jacky and this is my 2nd challange. I just finished the last one and lost 26.2lbs on it so for this challange I am going to try for 25-30 as well.
I am 43, single, no kids. That's about it I lead a very exciting life. I have always been overweight and a yo-yo dietier since I can remember - elementry school til now. I plan for this to be the last time and hope to be able to stay on plan and just maintain from there. Here's hoping. I work as a photo lab manager and really enjoy my job. The vacation pictures though make me want to go away all the time:)

I think I might just post a picture this time and then I have something to compare it to at the end of the challenge. I also need to take measurements as I didn't do this last time and I seem to usually lose more inches than pounds. Although I do have that dreaded middle age spread going on now. Hence the Bigmid:)

Well it will be great getting to know all of you over the next few months and I know we can do this. GO BLUE GO

Hi ladies!! I hope everyone had a great new years!! Now off to the gym for me! :)

babygrant 01-02-2010 02:25 PM

So what plan is everyone following?

I've been doing low carb....but it's just not working for me. I am exhausted and I can feel my mood going down hill.

I'm wondering if I can just follow the Canada Food Guide for the recommendations of veggies, fruit, meat etc.

I've tried calorie counting but it really triggers my bige eating. I find I spend the entire day obsessing about what I can have, what I shouldn't have. I'll allow myself one cookie...but it will turn into 10.

I am calorie counting and using a GoWear Fit to monitor my calories burned, steps, and exercise. My goal is to have a 1000 calorie deficit at the end of each day. My actual calorie intake varies a bit day to day based on my calories burned. Numbers are something tangible and something I cannot lie to myself about. I finally got a nutritional food scale so I cannot guesstimate calories anymore. I put things on the scale now and know exactly how many calories I'm looking at! When I cook, I measure everything that goes into the recipe...then I know exactly (well, give or take a very small amount) how many calories are in an individual portion. I am not denying myself any types of food...if it fits in my calorie intake while still allowing me my 1000 calorie deficit at the end of the day, I can eat it (though I am tending to choose not to eat unhealthy stuff, as that has lead to some meager looking dinners!). So far, so good!

Hello & Happy New Year to everyone!!

I'm new to 3FC & decided to join as a result of the BL Challenge & the fact that everyone is so supportive of each other.

I've struggled with my weight for as long as I can remember & am ready to make a commitment to taking off the lbs (once and for all) this year! My plan is to count calories & start exercising. I work in an office & sit on my tush 8 hours a day - which doesn't help, but I'm considering joining a gym that is located right next to the office. No excuses for why I can't get in a workout, right?!

GO Blue Team!!!!

sgregg 01-02-2010 03:53 PM

Well, tomorrow is my official start date! Is everyone ready?!

dream710 01-02-2010 04:33 PM

Hello blue team! Hope everyone is having a good Saturday.

BabyGrant- I'm a calorie counter who tries to follow the glycemic index. I'm also reading TBL Simple Swaps.

Ars-can I ask was the gowear fit expensive...I'd like a bodybugg but don't have or want to spend that kind of money on it.

Bigmid-I think taking a pic and measurements is a good idea. Sometimes the scale gets us down, but having the reinforcement of the inches lost will help from getting discouraged. Congrats on your great results from last challenge.

Retire and Babygrant-thanks for the advice on the produce bags. Two weeks wow, they will definetly be worth it than. Thanks for the heads up on the bananas....i hate overripe bananas

Cat-wow you are a very busy woman!

Jazz-hope the workout went well.

Muffen-:wel3fc: and good for you deciding to lose the weight. I too have an office job and well it definitely doesn't help the weightloss any.

I attempted to make ham and lentils yesterday. I just threw a bunch of ingredients in to the crockpot and let it cook away. Surprisingly it turned out pretty good even though I can't get anyone else to try it. It got me thinking there are so many fruits and veggies that I've never tried, so this challenge I'm going to try something new each week. So when I was at the store I picked up a Jicama. Anyone ever had it before? Any suggestions on how to prepare it?

The armband was $179.99 on Amazon with a free 3-month subscription. The monthly subscription varies after that depending on your commitment (monthly, 6 months, or 12 months). The display is optional, the armband itself plugs into your computer for you to see data. For me, it has been worth it and is keeping me honest and more active (even if just walking more to get my step goal in). I have seen them for sale on Craigslist and eBay...it looks like some folks do the 3 month trial and then decide to sell them off. I have this germ thing, so used wasn't going to work for me (even though they can be cleaned with alcohol)! Having owned it a little over 2 weeks, I would make the decision to buy it again in a heartbeat. The BodyBugg trademark is now owned by 24HourFitness, but the GoWear Fit is made by the same company (bodymedia).

Ooohhhhh, I love Jicama!!!!! My favorite way to enjoy Jicama is raw (it has a crunch/sweet juicy flavor kinda like apples). I got this recipe a few weeks ago from 3FC and it is ah-mazing.

Jicama Slaw with Chipotle Dressing

Recipe Ingredients:
5 Tbsp. fresh lemon juice
3 Tbsp. fat-free mayonnaise
2 Tbsp. honey
5 garlic cloves
2 tsp. minced canned chipotle chilies
1 1/2 tsp. chili powder
1 large red bell pepper, cut into thin strips
1 large green bell pepper, cut into thin strips
1 large yellow bell pepper, cut into thin strips
12 ounces jicama, peeled, cut into thin strips
1/3 cup chopped fresh Italian parsley

Recipe Directions:
Purée first 6 ingredients in blender. Season to taste with salt and pepper. (Can be made 1 day ahead. Cover and refrigerate.) Toss bell peppers, jicama and dressing in large bowl to coat. Season slaw with salt. Cover and refrigerate until vegetables soften slightly but are still crunchy, about 4 hours. Mix chopped parsley into coleslaw. Serve at room temperature.

Hey everyone!! I am popping in very quickly here as we are having a HUGE winter wind storm right now (160km winds, called Les Suete winds) and the power has blinked a few times and the water level in the harbour below my deck has risen quite significantly in the last cpl. of hours. Keep your fingers crossed we do not lose our electricity.. I hate that! lol I keep thinking it is going off soon.. My mom and brother live half an hour from here and they lost their power about an hour ago. I am ready candles already lit..lol
The plan I am following is the KISS Method.. -Keep It Simple Stupid- lol. Calorie counting and exercise! I use a pedometer that tracks approx. calories burned.. it is a good quality one as well as I use a heart rate monitor watch while working out to ensure I am working out in my target heart rate zone for maximum fat burn.
I had planned on doing personals this evening but will hopefully(weather permitting haha) do that tomorrow as I am a little nervous right now.. the wind is howling and becoming stronger with each gust

G'night ladies
