I made some fabulous protein pancakes in the morning that have yogurt and oats, and they did indeed fill me up for quite some time. I had absolutely no vegetables yesterday so need to make up for it today big time. I decided to go for a walk outside instead of the gym since it was so nice out, did an errand and then ended up at my widow friend's house where we gabbed for awhile and watched dumb reality tv. She started fasting and has lost 9 pounds, and I was impressed. I have leftover pancakes so i'm going to bring them to work and wait on eating as long as I can. Tonight I have to do my batch cooking for the week.
Karen-I'm so sorry about your husband! But thank goodness he's okay now, and that you were home and are a nurse, and indeed he was in good health to start. Life can turn on a dime.

I'm trying a way of arranging my day that's more akin to what I did during NaNoWriMo -- write first, everything else later.

Mostly this is a way of reducing stress. I felt like I was tapping into way more willpower than I wanted to keep drawing my attention back to my writing last week. Oddly, it's easier to find the motivation to start early and keep going until I'm done for the day. That feels like one act of willpower instead of many.

It worked for today. But it does mean that my 3FC post will likely be much later in the day. As long as I keep posting, that's not likely to be a problem for me.

Exercise +50, 280/1600 minutes for February

karenrn: Wow. That's a lot to handle even without jet lag. I'm glad that DH got the stent and that you're reasonably sure that he can come home today.

Good Afternoon, Coaches.

Karen: Holy Moses I am glad you took him to the hospital. I agree with your DH- It sucks to have med problems and doing all the right things.

I met my new student teacher. I would place him 40 ish. It seems like an ok match so I cam going for it. Here's to new adventures. Food was good. I was hungry when I came home from the gym. I promised myself if I didn't eat I could go to Starbucks and have what ever I wanted for breakfast. then I didn't need to go this morning. Coming home today after meetings I was going to stop and get a cookie. I came straight home. Credit moi.

Thumbs up Tuesday - Senator Henry Clay declares "I had rather be right than president" (1839)

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Success was finally composing an email asking, again, for some financial information that had been sent to me that I now can't locate. It's in one of several boxes. Maybe. Unlikely tossed out. It took me a while to write it because it's just embarrassing to admit that I've just lost something important enough for me to ask for. CREDIT moi for getting it done while trying to avoid spending all my time reminding myself that, if better organized, it wouldn't be lost.

Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi, with daytime snacks. Dinner was pumpkin soup served with zucchini. "Sorry for two squashes in the same meal," DW deadpanned. OK, so I had to be told. If we were out on the prairie, two different squashes in the same meal would be celebrated as variety.

Joy (gardenerjoy) - Pretty clear priorities: "write first, everything else later." Glad that finishing your novel remains high on your list.

maryann - Kudos for skipping a cookie on the way home. One reason to skip a cookie is that every single cookie is now monster sized. As much as I like oatmeal raisin cookies, I long for ones that are just a sweet taste instead of a meal substitute.

curlyjax - Protein pancakes sound good - but that's because my interpretation of that is a stack of pork sausages beside them. Yay for watching "dumb reality TV" whlle knowing that it's dumb.

The Travel Calories Decision

Nancy decided it wasn't worth using Travel Calories on subsequent trips because it had taken her so long to lose even the small amount of weight she had gained on a previous trip. When she travels, she continually reminds herself why it's worth it to stick to her usual number of calories.

Busy day at work yesterday, along with a lot of texts from DD asking if she could come home for a few days to study in peace for a big test. Since she gave me plenty of notice I was able to do some things that make it easier like buy some food for her, get gas in the car to drive to Boston, etc. It was a late night trip but I got to bed at a decent hour. I have given up on my batch cooking at this point as I'm supposed to go out for dinner with a friend tonight but that's okay. I got into some mint chocolates at work and then some other stuff at home that I bought for DD, boo. Onwards with a new day.
Gardenerjoy-sounds like a good idea to write first when you have the energy etc.
Maryann- exciting to have a new experience as a mentor.
Bill-I have totally done that myself so I hear you. Including paying bills late since I lost them, oops.

Hello buddies/coaches

I went to the endocrinologist yesterday and found out that my thyroid has gone into the hypo range yet again. I actually have a hyperactive thyroid that we are treating with meds. So we will make an adjustment and this could help me with my weight.

As I've gotten further into the Beck Book, I'm finding that it's not really resonating with me. I have mostly been at the proper weight for my height until the last 2-3 years. During this time I had my gallbladder out and can no longer skip meals, there was covid and I live in an area that had severe lockdowns which limited my activities, I had my knee replaced making exercise difficult and now my thyroid is hypo. I guess it makes sense that I've gained 15 pounds and am struggling to lose it. The Beck Plan seems to making me concentrate on food way more than I ever have, ruining my meals and pleasure with food. Yesterday's chapter was about making a plate with way more food than you should eat and then throwing away a portion of it. Hmm. I don't want to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but that's dumb IMHO. I also do not have food pushers in my life, I think it's a bad idea to weight yourself daily, I would never ask someone to put their food away in the office, I don't want to plan tomorrow's meal today because I prefer a more intuitive way of eating, I could go on and on. I think it's a bad fit. I need to just return to my normal ways of eating and activity and I believe I will slowly but surely get back to my normal weight.

I wanted to share this rather than just ghosting you all. You seem like such a nice group and were so welcoming. I hope you have success with your goals and I hope I'm on the right track too.

All the best, Wings

I woke up at 5, so I was done with my writing tasks quite early.

I planned to shop tomorrow, but since I've got some time today, I'm going to go now. I've got a meeting tomorrow and they're predicting rain all afternoon.

Exercise +65, 345/1600 minutes for February

Wings123: I invite you to consider staying with us, anyway. If the idea of having a diet buddy resonated, that's all you need for our group to be useful and for you to be useful to us. Most of us violate one or more of Beck's rules. I contend that part of my success is becoming very aware of what works and what doesn't for me -- which is pretty much the definition of CBT.

Wings123: Double what Joys says. Not everybody loves Beck but almost all weight loss data suggest having a specific weight loss support group. drop in whenever you want.
JOY: I woke up early as well. I used the time to plan two days worth of lessons. I am beat now at 3:30.
Curly: That is very nice of you to pick up your daughter and support her in the way you do.
BBE; I am incredibly organized and lay my keys down and can't find them. So ease up on yourself.

DH is down at the ranch and i need to say I am happy for the solitude. Life seems to be extra filled with extra people right now. that makes me hungry. the only thing to be done tonight is yoga. The rest is puttering. Yeah!

Food has been weird because I didn't make a batch of lunches. Glad I posted here because I am right now going to mix up an Instapot of groat bowls by Greger.

Thumbs up Wednesday - Comet C/1743 C1 approaches within 3 million miles of Earth (1743)

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Walked, CREDIT moi, between two events last night. First was another (third of three) FREE performances of one of Beethoven's later string quartets (Opus 131) written when he had been profoundly deaf for years and was mucking about with the form of works. The musicians were super excited about it. Consisted of seven movements with no breaks between the movements. Those poor guys played for 40 minutes straight. Small venue with good acoustics. Like dying and going to heaven. It's still on my Bucket List to get better familiar with the Italian descriptions of movements. For example, "Adagio ma non troppo e molto espressivo" Google translates to "Slow but not too much and very expressive." Of course! And the one with the same descriptor substituting "cantabile" for "espressiveo" - "singable." In my next life I'll be born in Switzerland and speak seven languages.

Second event was a book signing for my friend's new book. He drew a good audience. Got reminded that buying books from independent book stores is what makes such events possible. The audience was really into his book - made it fun. But back-to-back events meant no time for dinner at home; we PLANNED to have hamburgers at the best joint in town that was within walking distance of the book reading. The plan itself specified bacon cheese burger. "Not going to waste my yearly burger joint venture on a veggie burger," DW declared. Alas, it was closed, so we walked to a highly-touted extension of a (Boston Red Sox) Fenway Park favorite, Tasty Burger. The menu claims that the bacon cheeseburger was only 310 calories. Seems like some fishy calorie counting, but it was a fun event.

Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi, with minimal snacks. Busy helps me with the snacking issue.

Joy (gardenerjoy) - Rain is great for writing a book.

maryann - I agree, sometimes a bit of solitude is just what's needed.

curlyjax - So neat that despite your tense verbal times, your home is a place of peace for your DD.

Wings123 - I wish you well facing your medical issues; it's hard to focus on eating and exercise plans when taking care of your body has to come first. I join the others suggesting that you pause reading the Beck book that doesn't resonate with you, but consider posting with this group if it does. You won't be on the only one here with your own vision.

After practicing her new rule on several trips, it became much easier for Nancy to stick to her plan. She now has the confidence to do it, and her determination has grown because she knows it's worth it.

Good morning coaches,

Dh was discharged from the hospital on Monday and we are both very happy that he is home. His heart function is reduced but some of that could be from the stun of a heart attack. He goes back to the cardiologist appropriately on Valentine's Day and we'll learn when further testing will be completed. When I asked about when he could return to work the cardiologist said there are many "indispensable people in the graveyard" so not to be in a rush. He also said that he should be a couch potato for a couple of weeks. He did some work from home yesterday and we walked Otis together, but he is planning to take the doctor's orders seriously and is actually feeling just fine. I'm so thankful about that.

As for me, I did have a very large cookie the other day and have also had a couple of drinks. Weight is up a pound so I guess I had better be a bit more diligent. I did get out to hike yesterday and plan to go today as well. I feel like I'm pretty much over the jet lag thank goodness. We've had lots of support from good friends and I am so grateful for that. Otis is delighted that we are both home.

Bill What a bummer that the special burger restaurant was closed when you planned to have your once a year treat. You are right it's hard to believe the burger you had was only 310 calories.

Maryann I'm glad you're getting a little much needed solitude. I have been fortunate to have plenty of it for years. With dh thinking more seriously about retiring, that may not last too much longer, but at least we do plenty of things independently.

GardenerJoy I think your plan to do your writing first thing in the morning is great. That is exactly what I would do. It's kind of what I do with my hiking.

Curlyjax Sounds like you have been pretty busy as usual. You are a good Momma and it's great that dd can study peacefully at home.

Waving to Penny.

I did not eat anything off program yesterday at work so yay, and I walked around about 5 minutes at one point during the day to stretch out my legs. Long talk with DD about how things were going, and I made homemade chicken tenders; that was about it for productivity. I snatched a few minutes at work to talk to DS; he applied for a job on campus for the summer and is thinking of living in a dorm if he gets it. I would miss him but its good for him to stretch his wings a bit.
tonight I'm going out for dinner with a friend and looking forward to the chance to catch up.
Karen- so glad DH is home! And doing quite well. I think you're doing remarkably, I would be eating up a storm over all that. Glad you have supportive friends, and of course Otis!
Bill-so interesting about how musical movements are described. A good burger once in a while is the best thing.

Good Afternoon, Coaches.

Huzzah for the scale rewarding me with a couple of conscious decisions this week to NOT stop and get cookies. I have also been sleeping less and exercising more. Funny how tht works out. I changed my ticker down 2 lbs. This weekend I will be skiing so I will make my exercise goal.

School is hectic. I have been playing Chess.com to relax. Taking Mom out to dinner and planning on Sashimi with no rice.

Karen: So glad DH is taking it easy and you are there with him.
BBE: LOL about learning Italian music directions. SIL and I have decided to NOT go see a performance in Italian. No subtitles.
Curly: I agree it is good for the kids to stretch h their wings.

Thumbs up Thursday - British Parliament declares Massachusetts colony in rebellion (1775)

Diet Coaches/Buddies - Excitement was picking up the (7 yo) DGD after 1st grade. With temps in the 40's, she and her buddy flew past us dropping off their backpacks as they headed to the climbing structure. They never stopped. DW has learned to pack snacks for her buddy since sharing isn't fully developed yet. Their container of cheerios became the center of focus of the bunch of kids on the playground. Not to eat, but to throw up in the air to try to catch in their mouth. My exercise was minimal; at least I got to take a walk around the building to escort them to the restroom.

Eating was on plan with no daytime snacks, CREDIT moi. No time for daytime snacks - the combination that works for me. Dinner was grilled salmon - a Tuesday regular that got slipped a day since we were out Tuesday night. With Delicata Squash. Have no idea how it is that we'd never heard of Delicata squash until a dozen years ago and now it's everywhere. Perhaps it's the amount of butter that DW adds when roasting it in the oven. DW raced off to a Zoom meeting where the speaker introduced her to a list of veggies that one can grow that are really tasty and super nutritious. The speaker as a professional advisor to home gardeners. So many veggies, so little time.

maryann - Huzzah, indeed, for some wise eating choices. LOL at not seeing an opera in Italy for lack of subtitles.

Karen (karenrn) - Good news that you got your DH home. Thanks for the reminder, there are many "indispensable people in the graveyard."

curlyjax - Neat that your DS is looking to spread his wings - and that you're right there supporting him.

Wings123 - Thanks for letting us know rather than just "ghosting." Good luck with your quest.

I walked around our big room a bit at work, to stretch my legs. I may try to sneak that in more often; its good for my legs, heart and head.I had dinner out with my friend at Bertuccis and did manage to bring half of my lasagna home. I did terribly with eating yesterday- ate all sort of candy at work and then after dinner brought home some gum for DD as requested, along with hershey kisses filled with a strawberry center. Today is cookie decorating at work so i'm planning for that realistically but am bringing salad for lunch.
Bill-it is interesting how some foods just pop up suddenly. Smart idea to bring snacks for both kiddos.
Maryann-yay for good decisions and 2 pounds down.
