Went for a 1.9 mile walk the day before yesterday, yay me. I was dragging at the end, which I find disturbing. I'm not at all tired, but my hip/leg bothers me, it wears me down.
DH and I have discussed our eating schedule during our isolation time, and we have come up with a plan. Since I'm trying to maintain an 8-hour or less eating window, and he likes to eat 3 meals a day - we have decided that we will have one main meal around 3 pm and any other eating will be on our own using our own timing. That gives us more flexibility to do what we each want to do
The only sad thing is that after we eat this bigger 3 pm meal we both want to take a nap. It may be our age, the isolation, the fact that it's afternoon, or maybe we just ate too much. Today we had chicken tenders, cauliflower "rice", and green beans.

Friday - Elvis Presley records It's Now Or Never (1960, Nashville)
Diet Coaches/Buddies - Had a long Zoom meeting with the lawyer preparing our "Estate Plan," CREDIT moi. It's so tiring to consider every possibility in the future. Learned the phrase "Heirs at Law" which is used to describe whoever they can find who is related by blood if everyone in your will dies with you. Sorta a dreadful concept: a disaster hits the big family reunion and everyone we know is gone. There's a lot of having to accept that we can't predict the future. There's a panel to decide when I've gone bonkers (two out of three). There's a list of folks who can ask my doctor how I'm really doing. There's the person designated to say, "Yes, pull the plug." Only then, at the bottom, is the joyous part: anything left over goes to our kids who can use it however they want to improve their lives.
Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi. Excitement of the day was receiving a package via USPS. I was excited because I couldn't remember what it was. Two weeks ago, I had ordered a copy of our reading group's next book for a friend who lives nearby who, for some reason, doesn't order from Amazon. He doesn't mind that he has to walk over to our house, fetch the book from our box on the front porch for just such transactions, and leave money in our mail slot. He sees me as just a step in how books are ordered, LOL.
Joy (gardenerjoy) - It's a bummer that "Will it be good enough?" can live with us for so many years. LOL at wondering what's in the kitchen.
maryann - Kudos for your 14 days away from sugar. Must be a challenge to figure out how to be an online teacher after years standing in front of kids in person.
Karen (karenrn) - "Houseparty" is a new one for me. I'm currently reading about the security flaws in Zoom because the designers wanted to save a few keystrokes for their business users. Yay for becoming a face mask manufacturer.
curlyjax - So neat that you used your exercise bike while working. Great to have a take out place that you like.
Penny. - LOL at such a big batch that you shock your kids. Would seem that stress cooking was OK if one could avoid stress eating.
CJZee - Kudos for continuing to work on a schedule that allows your eating plan to work. I'm a big fan of naps.

chapter 12 How to Stay at Your New Weight
Okay, now you need to learn how to stay there: . . .
Recommit yourself if you gain 3 pounds. Three pounds seems to be the magic number according to the maintainers I've counseled because if they went 3 pounds above their Lowest Maintainable Weight, they were likely to continue gaining. If you gain 3 pounds, you don't have to do every task in the program, but I do advise you to reread the program days in this book to see which skills you should reinstate. Sometimes, it's just a matter of putting a plan in writing, measuring your food, and monitoring what you're eating for a couple of weeks.

I was all angtsy yesterday about my low energy. Am I not acknowledging stress? Do I need to revamp my sleep routine? Then, DH reminded me that it's allergy season.
Yep. I feel this way every year when the cedars, maples, and poplars are promiscuous at the same time.
By accepting that malaise is a natural part of this season, I actually have a bit more energy today and a lot less stress about stress.
Exercise: +35, 75/1300 minutes for March
BillBlueEyes: You'll appreciate that we went a couple of layers deep on heirs and, then, declared that if those people are all gone, the money goes to the Missouri Botanical Garden. And, since that's unlikely to happen, the Garden also gets the money I got from my parents since I'm not blood-related to our niece and nephews and they are remembered generously elsewhere in the estate plan.

Good Morning, Coaches.
Food was OP. This is one of the only times I can remember not "rewarding" myself with sugar after a strenuous workout such as xc skiing. I was not hungry at all out on the mountain. It was beautiful and nearly empty. I will go again today around noon when the ice turns a little slushy. I have a plan for food today. It is my goal to not go to the store while I am up here. Some good that has come from that is stopping the Stevia mania because I ran out. Also, I have been drinking my espresso with a little bit of powdered milk and cinnamon because I forgot to bring milk. I have fresh fruit and frozen veggies. So meals have become exactly what they need to be - unrefined and rather bland. The Hungry Brain called this "not highly rewarding" as opposed to the perfect combo of sugar, fat and salt of refined food products that are designed to be addictive. I have to say that "bland" has become rather tasty. More importantly, food is becoming just food - necessary but forgettable.
Weight is at ticker.
I did some online webinairs and had two meetings that had glitches which I am grateful for because I would rather learn to solve glitches with adults online than with 30 teenagers online. I read a few meditations on "acceptance." My favorite quote is "acceptance is not approval." I don't approve of what is going on right now but if I accept it I can begin to move on and change the things I can - specifically my attitude.
BBE: Who doesn't get excited about a new package?
Karen: Report back on the masks. That is on my to do list as well.
CJZee: 1.9 miles is a big step in the right direction (pun intended.)
Penny: Credit for reasonable eating while cooking up a storm. It is easier for me to stay out of the kitchen right now. My boys are really good about the simple meals.

Good morning coaches,
I was on plan yesterday, but in spite of it my weight is up from the other day. I guess my plan is a little too generous, or whatever. I am still a smidge down from a week ago and maybe I need to be satisfied with maintaining for now. Today for my exercise I will do one of the Les Mills online classes and I have already taken Otis for a walk. Good thing we got out when we did. When we got home the street cleaner was coming through the neighborhood. I have a 30 day free trial for the Les Mills and I figured out yesterday how to use the ap on my phone and then have it play on my TV. Well I didn't really figure it out, it's just something that happens as if by magic. I also made a list of chores for the day to keep me busy enough. I haven't figured out who I will reach out to today, but it will be someone.
Bill I hope you're about finished with your Estate Planning work. It seems a little more difficult to think about this sort of thing with the craziness going on in the world.
CJZee Sorry about your hip and leg, but hopefully the walking will help. It's great that you and your dh could come up with a compromise for your eating schedules.
Penny I was reading an article about how many people are making bread right now. It sounds so tempting but I don't suppose I could find any yeast anyway. How do you like the cashew "cheese type" sauce?
Take care all.

Saturday - National School Librarian Day
Diet Coaches/Buddies - Didn't go the supermarket, CREDIT moi. Credit because I honored the request to leave April 1, 2, and 3 for the families who just got their WIC monies. Let them get their essentials from the restricted list, then we go in for the rest. I hated not going. I will go about noon on Monday when the stores might be a bit uncrowded. Feels funny.
Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi. Dinner was dark turkey meat chili that DW had made days ago. It reheated well. We laughed at dinner how funny it felt that neither of us is bringing in new activities of the day to discuss. It's hard to get away from discussing COVID-19 and who did what to whom. It's a long path forward.
Joy (gardenerjoy) - Kudos for recognizing that malaise is part of the allergy season. Thanks for the encouragement that we're not the only ones who have to go through this prediction of the future.
maryann - Yay, I guess, for meals that are "unrefined and rather bland." Kudos for getting out there on your cross-country skis.
Karen (karenrn) - Always laughing at poor Otis having to avoid the sounds of the city. Neat to find an online class that you like.

Well! The director of my agency has decided that everyone who can work at home, should do so full time. I'm not sure why she finally came to this decision, 2 weeks after most non profits did so, but i'm glad. I feel much safer at home. Especially since I learned from her 20 year old dtr -who was coming in to work at my agency part time for the money!- that the director was letting her teenagers have friends over. Clearly the director was not taking this seriously at all, and who knows what the dtr was doing out in the world. This is the only place i can safely vent about that. I hope in her stupidity, the director hasn't caused people to become infected.
Anyhow- I need to clean up the tv room and make a real space for working now. It's a challenge working at home since DD keeps interrupting me for various things. I'm also going to need to give myself a real lunch break and take a walk on the nice days, I'm definitely sitting too much. Structure will be implemented!
Today's excitement is getting groceries, going to dump, etc. The weekend weather looks promising anyhow.
I started writing personals and it got deleted. i'll do them tomorrow. Hugs to all!

My usual first Saturday activities will be replicated, in a small way, as Facebook group discussions. We'll probably want to figure out some sort of conference call or video solution before next month -- I suspect people are going to want more in-real-time interactions and that's something our group can provide if a few of us get energetic about it.
Exercise: +45, 120/1300 minutes for March
maryann: thanks, for "acceptance is not approval." Working the Serenity Prayer is one reason that I think I'm doing better than some of my friends. Some days, I literally write two lists -- things I can change and things I cannot change.

Good Morning, Coaches.
Yesterday was OP. The snow was perfect for skiing. I came home in the afternoon because there is suppose to be a two day storm which we desperately need. I seem hungrier this morning but that could be because I of the previous day's exercise. a little hungry is what it will take to achieve a new set point which I hope will be securely in the 60s for now. The research I have done says it take a couple months to establish that range. This is a slow process.I am in for the long haul.
My school was officially closed until the end of the year. It is what it is. It is my job to "earn my keep" and provide an education to all the kids who reach out. One of my classes is a gatekeeper to the diploma. We are lowering the threshold to mere "engagement" to pass. That is fine. I am learning so many new things and so many different perspectives. I am trying not to judge but rather discern.
Exercise is yoga and cleaning the bathrooms.
Enjoy your Saturdays.

Good morning coaches,
I got out for an early morning hike today. I was at the trailhead at 6 a.m. to hike Bell Pass and it was great. There were a couple of times when people were two abreast coming towards me that was a bit annoying. Once I actually said something as the gal in the middle was really hogging the trail. I asked her to please move over and I know she was annoyed, but really. Yesterday I only got thru three of the six items on the to do list and I felt like talking on the phone was my part time job. However, I do think it's a good use of time right now and several of the gals I hadn't spoken with in quite some time. It is a difficult time to be sure, but really much easier for me than for many and I know that. I did go off my plan and made popcorn yesterday afternoon. I ended up dislodging the inlay in my back molar again, so I will be needing a crown. I don't even know if the dentist is open for emergencies, but I did call and leave a message. Thank goodness it is not painful, just a little uncomfortable with cold things.
Maryann I'm so glad you could enjoy some perfect snow for skiing. So now you won't have to be doing the online teaching?
GardenerJoy It is so interesting how many ways people are connecting.
Curlyjax Oh my, I'm so glad you will be working from home. Yes, I'm afraid people have different takes on what we should be doing, but I do want to be careful and I kind of want to know what my risk is.
Bill That's very nice of you to leave the groceries for the WIC recipients. I added up the amount I had spent at the grocery store and Costco last month and decided I must have enough food around here to last awhile. I don't want to get down to nothing for sure, but I think I need to do a week of only picking up some produce if needed. The conversations around here are partly on me reporting to dh how all the people I have talked with are doing, including his mother.
Also, I didn't make any masks yet. I found I don't have any elastic, but there was a pattern on CNN.com today that has a mask with ties. Then my friend told me about one made of a tee shirt. I think I'm going to make a couple of masks with tee shirt material close to the face and woven material on the outside and with ties on them. I'll let you know how it goes.
You all have a good day. This is a crazy difficult situation and I've read some very sad stories. I can't spend too much time doing that, but it does let me know I am doing the right thing by staying home as much as possible. Take care and stay healthy.

Ob-la di, ob-la-da, life goes on, bra
La-la, how the life goes on Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi. Excitement for the day was receiving photos of the DGD completing some of the floor puzzles we sent to their house. So far, her mother hasn't gone mad, but it might be getting close. We delivered our tax info to our accountant - through the mail slot in her office door. We drove there and touched nothing.
Joy (gardenerjoy) - Facebook is absorbing a bunch of personal interactions. And a super bunch of time.
maryann - Congrats to your school for recognizing that you have to lower the bar to: "engagement" to pass. Gonna take lots of compromises to get us through this.
Karen (karenrn) - Ouch for needing a dentist now. Can't imagine how one would be dressed in PPE to work on a crown. We've encountered folks walking four abreast who find it odd that we ask them to step aside.
curlyjax - Yay for life's excitement of getting groceries and going to the dump. Love this: "Structure will be implemented!"

Anticipate the amount of effort required for maintenance. Have you heard that it's harder to maintain your weight loss than it is to lose it initially? I've not found this to be true among the dieters I've worked with. The course of maintenance frequently follows the same course as dieting. It's easier in the beginning, at some point it gets more difficult, and then it gets easier again. It stays easier most of the time, with intermittent periods when it's more difficult. It's important for you to have this expectation, or you'll be disappointed when maintenance occasionally requires more effort. If you don't realize that this is normal, you might get discouraged, put in less effort, and then regain weight. Make yourself a Response Card to remind yourself that maintenance is supposed to be hard at time, but it will get easier again.

Happy Sunday, Coaches.
KarenRN: I was just thinking this morning how grateful I am I don't have to go to dr or dentist for anything and you write about needing the dentist. I had stupidly left a pork roast out to defrost a few hours and forgot - leaving it out all night. Would it be ok? Nope. I tossed it because I didn't want any of us with food poisoning going to the dr. Blast!
BBE: You should watch the movie Yesterday. It is cute and about the Beatles.
This morning I attended an OA Zoom meeting in NY. It is not one of the meetings I usually attend. Zoom has now added password restrictions on all meetings and all my regular meetings became non-accessible. Drat!
Food was a battle ground yesterday and I am not sure why. I missed my boys and we were all together. Maybe just the emotion made me uncomfortable and made me want "more" to eat. I did eat more but still remained successfully free of sugar. That is fine for now. Writing in my workbook I have to identify problem foods. It is becoming clear that peanut butter is one of those foods. For today I am switching to a nut butter I make myself unsalted. Also, white rice is feeling problematic whereas brown rice is not. This is all good information.
Raining here which we desperately need.
Even though our school is closed the students will supposedly be working online. We start a week from Monday. It is an ongoing process.
Mom spent the night by herself for the first time last night. She called this morning and said she was fine. Yeah!

Good morning coaches,
Not much planned for the day today. I did go to the grocery store when they opened at 7 and bought what we will need to fill in for the week, mostly produce. I have declared it is eat out of the freezer week and we will do that. Today we are having flank steak. I bought it 6 weeks ago or more and I'd just as soon eat it before it gets freezer burned. We also have several containers of bean soup and split pea soup. I know once it gets warm and it is heading that way, we aren't too interested in soup. I'm not so worried about the stores not having anything in them, so I'm not worried about having extra food around. I watched our church service online and I've done a little cleaning. I also have some garbanzo beans soaking. Just a little this and that today. I'm not planning any exercise cause we're doing a long hike tomorrow and besides the trails tend to be a little more crowded on the weekends. I do have my supplies on the dining room table to cut out some face masks. One of the PNP gals on the FB group had a photo of masks she was making that had a strip of aluminum inside the fabric at the nose to keep it in place. I watched her attached video and it was just a piece from a disposable pan that was cut 2 1/2 inches by one inch and then folded so there was no sharp edges. I'm going to try to put that in the masks too. By the time the pandemic is over I may have made a mask.
Maryann Luckily my tooth is just an annoyance, not painful, so I won't worry about it too much. I did call, but I'm not in a hurry. I think we're supposed to get rain and much cooler temps early in the week. I look forward to it just for the change as much as anything. You're learning so much about what food are triggers for you and how your body reacts. All good information to have. I'm so glad your Mom had a fine night alone.
Bill I agree Yesterday was a great movie. I'm glad you got some photos of dgd with her puzzles. I just love seeing the photos of friends grand babies and our great nephew on Instagram. Those and cocker spaniels too.
Okay, I'd better get the marinade made for the flank steak. I hope all of you are hanging in there, staying safe and healthy!

Monday - The first modern Olympic Games opens (1896, Athens, Greece)
Diet Coaches/Buddies - Walked, CREDIT moi, around our neighborhood to catch up on all the construction; to note all the bears in windows supporting "Bear Hunts" for little kids; and to catch up with my DS and his SO who joined us. We walked at the prescribed six foot separation. All four of us were firmly committed to doing that. Found out that they hadn't been to a grocery store for nine days. They have enough food to eat for a month - by calorie count. Claim it'd get pretty dull without fresh veggies. Found out that they were out of cheese; I was able to send them on their way with a sealed, vacuum-packed 8 oz bar of Cabot Vermont Seriously Sharp cheddar - wrapped in a paper towel so that I didn't touch it. It's my favorite go-to daily cheese.
Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi. Lentils for dinner that DW described as one of her favorite recipes to cook because each step is so satisfying. First cumin seed is sauteed in olive oil; then an onion sauteed with it; then carrots. Then lentils and water are dumped in and it simmers as required to cook the lentils. Satisfying to prepare and super good.
maryann - Added the movie Yesterday to my list. Just watched the official trailer - what an unusual idea; though I'd die laughing when the director suggested a new song, "Hey Dude." Yeah, indeed, that you mom spent her first night alone.
Karen (karenrn) - Great idea to work your pantry during this crisis. I have the odd (and incorrect) opinion that food can stay in the freezer forever. DW doesn't buy that. Good luck with your mask making.

Happy Monday all- yes, its Monday! I kept meaning to post yesterday and then the day got away. I'm working towards staying on a schedule today which will include a brief walk at lunchtime, otherwise it doesn't happen. Yesterday I was able to have a social distanced chat with one of my buddies which was so nice. I received a homemade mask from someone that is making a lot, and wore it proudly to the grocery store. I started doing my bills finally, made a healthy stirfry for dinner, and also chocolate zuchini muffins that DD was begging me to make.
Friday the furnace guy came and stated there was carbon build up(?) in the furnace from the old oil tank that needs to be replaced, which freaked me out and now i'm wondering if we're all getting carbon poisoning. I'm calling today about getting a new one,not sure if that is considered essential but i'll start the process. I have been getting a mild headache for the past few days, but it could be allergies etc.
Karen-if I had to sew my own mask it definitely wouldn't happen! I've always been bad at that. yay for a stocked freezer! i'm relaxing about food too. Have a nice hike today.
Bill-interesting, i don't think i've ever used cumin seed, just the powdered stuff. Lentil soup is simple but good. I feel like i've put red wine into mine but maybe that was something else.
Maryann- good luck with the online classes. My son starts his officially this week. There is a very funny youtube spoof of an irish teacher and his high school students (which are played by himself and maybe one other person) trying to do online teaching.
off to shower and "get ready" for working at home!
