Not a good day to report. I cannot let this become a habit.

No exercise. June: +0 560/300 We will walk tomorrow after the house inspection. DH said he'd come with me but even if he doesn't, I'll walk.

Pretty good on water, so I guess the day wasn't all bad, and I give myself credit for that.

We went out for dinner at iHop because I wanted breakfast. I didn't make good choices and I ate too much. It is just one day, though, and tomorrow, I will eat 3 products and my leftovers from Sunday's dinner and that will be totally on plan. I didn't eat again this evening, so no additional mistakes.

I guess I was bound to be imperfect at some point--now it's time to acknowledge I have and to make good choices tomorrow. I have 5.5 months of making really good choices, and now 2 meals of not-great choices. That's not too bad--so credit for recognizing that this is a single stumble.

G'night all,

--Beth

Lots of walking here in warm/hot weather (4.5 miles), taking in the Botanic Garden, bookshops and the river. The SO and I were cut loose by the DB which was nice. I always walk in the shade because my skin is so fair it burns quickly. I'm doing the best I can with food. Being away from home does make it more challenging, doesn't it? It's not just what you choose but also, I think, how much you need. And the quality of food can be poor too. More walking today. Think it will be me and the DB as I have an 'access all areas' card which could be useful.

Beth, yes, it was just a day. Credit for water! Good luck with the house inspection today.

maryann, good to hear you're out and about and camping overnight. Bad luck about the camping stove but you'll definitely know next time!

Bill, sounds like a nice day with all the others. Good work getting rid of all that food.

Sending good wishes to everyone for an on-plan, relaxed day.

Thumbs up Tuesday - “Ich bin ein Berliner” (1963, J. F. Kennedy)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – Was the day to submit my application for classes this fall. I do love taking courses as an adult with no fear of failure or serious judgement. And everyone in the class is only there to learn. I suppose I do miss the flirting and sexual innuendo of highschool, but some things decrease with time.

Eating was OK, CREDIT moi, including having leftover BBQ both for lunch and dinner. Again, I ate as if eating was for sustenance not for stuffing. It kind of boggles my mind that I can face a platter of ribs and only have a single one - with joy. And leave the table satisfied instead of full. Dinner included massive amounts of green salad from our garden. We get good lettuce for a small window of time so it's the time to indulge.

silverbirch – Now that's my idea of an ideal walk, "taking in the Botanic Garden, bookshops and the river," Food away from home is, indeed, a challenge.

maryann - Congrats for doing an overnight to Five Lakes by yourself. It looks spectacular. Ouch for the cook stove fiasco - BTDT.

Beth (bethturnaround) – Kudos for giving yourself credit for the water even when you were disappointed with some of the rest. Yep, going forward has to include an occasional iHop (or iHob).

Finalize Your Exercise Plans

If you currently exercise fewer than three times a week, your goal for today is to establish a more frequent exercise routine. Make arrangements to begin a planned exercise program as soon as possible. Meanwhile, set a time to take a walk every day - even if you can go for only five minutes - and put it in your daily appointment calendar or schedule.

Good Morning, Coaches.

Beth, I agree with Silverbirch. It was just one day. The true success story is how we hop back OP. For me.I look at my numbers for nearly 9 years here at Beck and I have maintained at least five below when I started. True, I have been ten pounds lower but I have continue to come back, post, tell the truth and try new ideas. That is my success story. Not bad for a girl who was a 200 pound 15 year old. When everybody shares their struggles, I get to remind myself how hard losing and maintaining that loss is. You are an inspiration to me.

BBE: Your post reminded me of my son telling me about Okinawa and the culture that says to eat only to 80% full. I am going to try that today.

I accepted a new job yesterday. Without going into the the whole story, I was struggling too much at the high school - it had as much to do with me as the environment. A district office big wig recruited me pretty heavily to spearhead his pilot program which brings art to all 4th graders in the district. I am now the new Art specialist and have a generous schedule and budget to get things rolling. Although I am a little nervous at the responsibility, it is a job I can do very well. I already have most of the curriculum set since i have been teaching art informally for years ( I have a music credential, not art). First things first, packing up the old and moving to the new. This will be a multi step process ( as onebyone knows) since I have to clean up the grarage before I can move things into it. All good and I can count the process as exercise.

Today I have Personal trainer and food is planned. I am shooting for 80% full. weight is 4 pounds from ticker.

Yesterday was stinking hot, for us, and there were a few meltdowns. 30C/86F. Food was not too good. I forgot that pizza does not agree with me, even the best pizza in town - and it was very good. I only ate a bit and the result was indigestion in the night. I'm looking forward to getting home and eating more fruit and vegetables. Lean protein is pretty hard to find when you're away from home, too. Exercise was more walking and melting.

maryann, congratulations on the new job! You are such a good example of trying new things out and moving on. And thanks for the eating to 80% full reminder. It's one of the PN habits but it hasn't stuck very well with me. Now I know about the Okinawans I may remember it better.

Bill, such fun to sign up for new classes. Eating for sustenance is a great thing! I've just googled 'how big is an American rib?' Yes, pretty big. Eating one looks pretty sensible to me. Oh, massive amounts of green salad - how lovely! I want that when I get home.

Have a good day, everyone!

Thumbs up Wednesday - English scientist James Smithson bequests Smithsonian (1829, Genoa,Italy)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – Walked, CREDIT moi, past a mini-library where I picked up two books that would interest the DW. She was, in fact, interested, so I was pleased. I'm not that accurate at predicting her tastes. There was little risk since I could bring them right back.

Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi, including finishing up the leftovers from Sunday's BBQ takeout. DW gets on a rampage to get rid of the plastic containers in the fridge so after I had served myself the amount of coleslaw that I wanted, she emptied the small remainder of the container on my plate. "This needs to be gone," she insisted. Not a problem, coleslaw made with almost no mayonnaise is healthy enough. I did finish the book Energy: A Human History by Richard Rhodes. It had been highly recommended and I'd received it from the library after a long wait. Meh - a rehash of stuff I mostly knew. You have to be in the mood to face that the last whales on earth were only spared because oil was discovered as a cheaper substitute for whale oil. Human history isn't the story of wisdom.

silverbirch – Wishing you well in finding food away from home. LOL that exercise included melting.

maryann - Love that 80% full notion. Congrats on that new job, with Super Kudos for moving forward to find what fits for you. Maybe you can have onebyone drop by as a guest artist for an international perspective.

Good morning, Coaches.
Silverbirch: LOL "melting" as an exercise. Totally counts.
BBE: Kudos for your heavy reading schedule. I reread Agatha Christie's right now.

As promised, I am researching food plans while finishing up BistroMD food. Looking at South Beach today

Personal training was effective and ironic. She had me wear a 40 pound vest while doing my exercises. That is how much extra weight I carried at 200 pounds. I wonder what it will feel like to remove this "15 pound vest" I am wearing right now.

HI everyone.

Yesterday was a draining day--had 5 products and lots of water, so I was on target that way, but it was just a tough day. DH left this afternoon for his folks--his dad is doing very poorly. I didn't go with him, but may end up following. It just depends on how his dad does, but it doesn't look good.

After not exercising Monday and then the 3+ hour home inspection yesterday (also no exercise), I was determined not to let today's planned dinner out get in the way of a walk. So, in between work and dinner, I headed to the forest preserve. Turned out my son was hiking (in another state) at the same time, so we had a nice phone chat while we both enjoyed the outdoors. I got back just in time to head to dinner with DD. My brother's girlfriend was in town for work (without my brother) so that was our dinner occasion. Made good food choices, including skipping the huge shared dessert. I had my chicken non-breaded and had one bite of bread -- just one bite. It was enough to enjoy--and I had it after dinner so I wasn't tempted to keep eating the bread :-)

Exercise for June +33 593/300

g'night all.

Thumbs up Thursday - Strawberry Moon - Charles I of Spain elected Holy Roman emperor (1519)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – Exercise was chase the (2.5 yo) DGD day, CREDIT moi. She rode her micro-scooter three blocks to the playground having finally learned to steer so that she didn't have to stop and get off each time she reached one edge of the sidewalk. Without prompting at an intersection, she offered, "Stop and wait for a grown-up to look both ways for cars." Congrats to her parents for that. DW made a 2'x3' pan of mud for her to play in. Sheer joy!!! Both hands, both feet; hands and feet together (a nice body bender). After DGD time, I took a leisurely walk to the library to exchange books, returning eight items and only taking two.

Eating was good, CREDIT moi. Since the BBQ was finally gone, we had omelets for dinner with watermelon for dessert - our first watermelon for the season. Snacks were under control because there was no time for snacks but I take credit anyway.

silverbirch – Placeholder response. Do like that a full moon arrives every four weeks.

maryann - LOL at the forty pound vest. That's more than your overnight pack.

Beth (bethturnaround) – Kudos for skipping the shared dessert with your GFIL. (We just don't have comfortable terminology for mates who aren't married.)

what are you thinking?
Sabotaging thoughts will interfere with your ability to start and maintain an exercise program. Most are self-defeating or irrelevant, such as, A lot of people don't exercise, so it's okay if I don't either. If you find yourself resisting the idea of starting an exercise program, reread the benefits of exercise mentioned on pages 107-108. Which are important to you? Write them on a response Card.

Hi coaches. Struggling a little with dessert again- or not putting effort into resisting is really what’s going on. Watching the British Baking show at night doesn’t help but I find it very soothing too. I had a nice goodbye chat with our minister yesterday who is retiring from our church but looking for a new job in hospice, and she asked me to be a reference which I was pleased about. I will really miss her, but the new “temp” is supposed to be wonderful.
I also had dinner yesterday with two of my former work pals who are about 70, 73. I really enjoy having friends of different ages. The 70 year old is my role model- walks miles every day, golfs, does kayaking, water aerobics-she is very active. And she doesn’t like dessert that much!
I am slowly getting used to being a single person again, with a little help from my friends It’s going to take a long time.

Beth-hope the home inspection went well. Will you still be near your forest preserve when you move?
Silverbirch-glad you’re home. It is hard to eat well when one is away. We are heading into a hot stretch of 90 degree weather and humidity, boo.
Maryann- congrats on the job!! 4th grade is a great age, they will be so fun, and no papers to grade, right?
Bill-I saw a mini library yesterday at a local park, which is a great place for one, and thought of you. DD was crabby so I didn’t have time to investigate but I will next time.

Good Morning, Coaches.

Credit yesterday for getting a salad into my meal plan, working in the gym toward my goal of 3 miles on the elliptical, and a major purge in the office. I can now see my desk. I also donated a shelf of cookbooks to make room for the art books I'll bring back from my old classroom. I am planning on having a home office since I will be a traveling teacher.

Weight is slowly dropping from the indulgent weekend. Two pounds up from ticker.

BBE: I distinctly remember making mud pies

Curlyjax: Dessert is very difficult. I feel every time I eat, I should be able to end with an additional bite of sweet. I asked myself yesterday after dinner, "What would it be like to not want something sweet?"I told myself I will never reach my goal unless I resist this particular habit. . .
and no I won't have any papers to correct in my new job.

I'm determined to find my determination for self-care, including the vital work of making better choices with food. Today's goal is just to get through my Morning Routine list. It's all things that I know make a difference if I do them every day, but I've let that slip in the last couple of weeks. I'll get it done today. Posting here is the third-to-last thing. I still have taking my half-aspirin and using my neti pot, both easy and quick and remarkably easy to not do.

Thumbs up Friday - The Globe Theater burns down during performance of Henry VIII (1613, London)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – It rained all day - rain that we badly needed. At times it came down in torrents. Wasn't an inviting situation for taking a walk, so exercise was limited. We did get out, during intermittent showers, to a late afternoon event where a new formal garden was opened honoring Asa Gray, the renowned botanist at Harvard University. During his lifetime, Asa Gray was overshadowed by the outrageous Louis Agassiz who constantly drew fame, money, and attention while espousing racist notions and dissing Darwin. As always, our history isn't so noble.

Eating was good until the reception at the Asa Gray event. Walking appetizers got me started, then I escalated to seared tuna hors d'oeuvres, rare beef tidbits, and a fried coq au vin bite from a gentleman dressed in black. I declared too much of the food 'rare and unusual'. I did avoid liquid calories and platters of carbs, CREDIT moi for that part. We get invited to these kind of events as 'donors' despite giving small amounts. Had much fun chatting with a number of folks we know from gardening and bird watching.

Joy (gardenerjoy) – Wish you'd been with us at the Asa Gray event. DW walked away with a booklet describing the 145 species of plants in the new garden area. Seem neat to me that you always have a daily list.

maryann - Yay for "a major purge in the office" - color me green with envy.

curlyjax - Glad you're able to appreciate the honor of being asked to be a reference for your old minister. Wish my brain followed your friend's style of not liking desserts.

Use the following helpful responses to common sabotaging thoughts to create inspiration for making additional cards.

Sabotaging Thought: I don't want to exercise.
Helpful Response: I shouldn't go by whether I want ot exercise. If I want to lose weight and keep it off, I need to exercise. There are also lots of other benefits to exercising. I might be making this into a much bigger deal than it really is. I can do this.

Good Morning, Coaches.

Planning for exercise this weekend. I will hike Mt. Tamalpais from Stinson Beach. You know all the car commercials showing a car driving past beautiful ocean? Most are filmed at this location. It is right next to Muir Woods. Since tomorrow is walking, today is gym weights.

I have yet to settle on a food plan. I am working through the last of the purchased meals. It is not easy. Weight is 3 pounds up from ticker.

I am starting the research and planning for my new job. Step ! is to reread my Drawing with Children by Mona Brooks. In the preface she states that if we do not give specific instruction for realistic drawing for children ( like we do for all other forms of communication), children loose a vital form of expression. I know that is my case. I learned this concept as a voice major. I am constantly telling people they CAN sing. They have just never been taught. People are constantly saying I CAN'T draw. The response is the same.

Happy to be prepping for a subject for the first time in my life that isn't graded or tested by the state.
