Good evening all,
Just wanted to share that the tools and techniques are working for me. It was very rewarding to get a compliment from my husband when he came back from Texas on Wednesday (after 4 days). He said I looked nice and he liked my dress. He doesn't usually comment on the clothes cause I am a fashionista and he doesn't like to encourage me to buy more. Then tonight when I came home from a class I have been taking for most of the week he said "You look really nice" why don't you sit down and I'll make dinner. I knew from the scale this morning that I am down 28 lbs. Only a hundred to go BUT I can see light at the end of the tunnel. Hope everyone will have a great weekend. KarenCongrats on the puppy |
Full days
Coaches
Just stopping by to report a string of days on plan this week. I got back on track on Sunday and have been chugging along all week. Credit. My days are very full and I am practicing some avoidance aka procrastinating about my most obvious task on my to-do list. I cancelled the farmer's market for myself tomorrow so I could dedicate this long weekend to that task but already two additional tasks have crept into the three day weekend. True, I can't spend all day hunched over my table carving blocks of wood (my main task) but I know from experience that distractions make it tougher for me to refocus once I get off track. Better to stay the course--yet another application of Beck Diet principles. Have a good night. |
Saturday] - Mariner 7 transmitted pictures of Mars (1969)
Diet Coaches/Buddies – One more evening dawdling on the patio; CREDIT moi for enjoying life. DW had made doubles of shish-kabobs so that was dinner again. Methinks part of the joy is that we don't have them often. Afternoon snack was cherries - they're down to $1.99 per pound now. It's so easy to overeat cherries since I know that they won't be here for long.
The electrician came to install the 240 volt outlet for charging my electric car. And left without it installed because his supplier didn't have the right receptacle. The world is ever so slowly catching up that electric cars might actually be coming. I'll have to order the part and call him back. On my walk, CREDIT moi, I returned one book to a micro-library. Even one book is a small step forward. onebyone – Yep, Kudos for "a string of days on plan this week." Full days are good days. maryann - You made me look up Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil - now I'll have to watch the film. Yay for sleeping in until 9am. nationalparker – Kudos for a good week per, "the week has been a good one on plan with a healthy variety of foods/nutrients." That Tapas idea sounds great as a gift for your brother. [Maybe some more Costa Rica stories coming; busy just seems to keep happening.] Karen (karenrn) - Ouch for those fire ants - we were warned to stay away from them in Costa Rica. Shopping on an empty fridge is better than shopping on an empty stomach, LOL. Ann (Newlifestyle) - Alas, there certainly are opinions on whether to watch the scale or ignore the scale. Kudos for choosing one way and marching forward. ennay - Kudos for experiencing true hunger and surviving. anniemaxx - Kudos for "You look really nice" but Double Kudos for "why don't you sit down and I'll make dinner." Congrats for those 28 pounds gone forever. Readers - Quote:

hi coaches- yesterday zipped along and i forgot to check in. i planned to have cake at a work event, but then snuck back for a second piece, and even had ice cream at night. Apparently i can’t stay away from good quality mint chocolate chip ice cream after all. Onwards- today is a new day.
I;m already back to the summer doldrums and feeling stuck in my job. I’ve been here seven years and its really getting boring and not busy enough and then i get depressed. I’m telling myself one more year so i can be around for DD until she gets into college next year, and then i’m looking for something else. I am VERY grateful to have the health insurance, and i remind myself its easy and not stressful etc. Once both kids are in college i could do anything, so i remind myself of that at times too. That’s 3 years from now. Enough complaining- its the weekend and i do have plans to see a former colleague for lunch so that will be fun. Maryann- its never too early to look at colleges is my feeling! I gave my DD the financial talk a few years ago, that we could afford a state school or the equivalent if she got merit money from a private school, but i’m not getting into debt and neither is she (well a little, but not these huge amounts you hear about). She is feeling stressed about it, from her peers not us, the process is tough on everyone- this is her senior year. |
I've been struggling with willingness to follow my plans or my rules. That's made it crystal clear why I want to post here every morning -- this post is where I talk myself into willingness. So, I've got a food plan for today:
I'll be back tomorrow and I'll catch up on what y'all are up to. Thanks for being here! |
Morning coaches
credits, weighed, logged, worked out. Was able to run for 30 minutes non stop yesterday on the extremely slow TM. I am down to the last episode of my distraction show though so I need to find another one! newlifestyle I tend to eat approximately the same thing for breakfast every day - eggs with whatever veggies happen to be around and salsa. Lunch is relatively unplanned, I have a calorie target and it is either leftovers or soup from the freezer, usually with a wasa and laughing cow. Very simple. I plan dinners 3-4 days at a time and shop. More than that and the leftovers tend to get overwhelming or life interferes and I end up with food waste. Plus with kids I will need more fruit and milk in 3-4 days anyway. I used to have a 12 week rotation of recipes, but I am trying new things. anniemaxx Awesome!!! onebyone thanks for the check in! I am feeling the need to read the book again, but I think I left my kindle somewhere not in my house. Trying to declutter before springing for another one, but I am pretty sure it is gone. BBL for the rest of the personals, dh uses this room for his workouts and is kicking me out! |
I have been thinking about the shift from being on a 'plan' and 'having a different lifestyle'. Are we always going to be conscious about what we eat?

You can build certain things in to make it less all encompassing - a lot depends on what your triggers are and how much of your changes can be maintained through habits. For me - I have always had an oversized appetite. I can not remember a time in my life that I was not hungry. So even though I eat relatively healthy foods always, without really paying attention my "normal" hunger driven intake tends to settle at around 2700 calories regardless of what types of food I am eating. I have to consciously choose less everyday. I also tend to either be mindful or mindless - there is no in between. If I am not paying attention, I will walk though the kitchen and eat without noticing. What scared me this year is for the first time in my life, I was not only over eating, but I was overwhelmingly choosing unhealthy foods. |
Good morning coaches,
Food on plan and exercise was walking Otis. I was listening to an audiobook, The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane by Lisa See when all of a sudden it expired. Darn it was from the library and I thought I had another day. So, I'm back on the waiting list to listen to the last one third. Later today we went to our house, gave Otis a bath and swam in our own pool while he ran around the back yard getting dry. I can't believe how much better my ant bites are today and I think the pool (which is salt water) and the sun helped too. The itching is really close to gone although it does still look like I have some kind of disease. Anniemaxx Glad Beck is working for you. As far as plan or lifestyle, I actually consider this my lifestyle. I joined Weight Watchers after the beginning of the year mainly to learn more appropriate portion sizes for the reduced exercise I have been getting. For the last few years I have hiked for hours each week. Once we got our puppy I just didn't want to spend that many hours away. As far as what I eat it is pretty much the same things I ate before. Other than an occasional burger or heavier meal out once in awhile, we eat very healthy at home. I will always have to be conscious of what I eat, but I would so much rather do this than regain a bunch of weight and be uncomfortable. Ennay I also eat the same breakfast and even lunch frequently. It makes it easier for me cause then I know how many calories/points I have left for dinner. Great job on your running. I started the Couch to 5K ap when walking Otis, but then when it just got hotter and hotter it is just too much for me (a non runner) to begin running. I hope to start again when it cools down. GardenerJoy I wish I could give you some of my free time and then posting would be no problem for you. We do miss you when you're not here. Curlyjax I hope you had a fun lunch out with your former colleague. Darn about a boring job. I think my husband feels similar to how you feel. In his case he is 61 years old, the job is 1 1/2 miles from our house, he can wear shorts and take the dog. He has changed jobs many times over the years and at his age I think he figures just hold out and keep getting the paycheck and the health insurance. You are way younger and I hope in time you find something you like better. Bill I didn't realize the outlet is to plug in the car. You'll have to let us know if it costs much to "fill up". Onebyone Thanks for stopping by. Ann It will be interesting to hear what the dietician says going forward. I know I often have my own ideas about things and have to really give myself a talking to in order to listen to a different point of view. My ideas obviously are not always correct. Maryann I really don't know about the atmosphere at SU or UW. UW is so big and I went when I was in my 30's so I would not be a judge of that. However, my good friend Sandee who I walked the camino with last fall has a granddaughter who is starting at UW in the fall. She sounds a bit like your son, very smart, has been in the band and is going into a science program. Once she gets started, soon, I'll get reports from Sandee and let you know what their point of view is. Also just wanted to pass on another concoction that I tried yesterday, 1 Premier Protein Chocolate High Protein drink (Costco), 2 T PB2, 1 T sugar free butterscotch pudding mix and 1 cup of ice and blend them all together. It tastes very much like a Butterfinger candy bar and has 35 grams of protein. It is 4 sp for Weight Watchers, or 230 calories. |
oh no I just lost my post. I know you have all been there and it is frustrating.
I had a good day on the new plan protein, high fibre/starch and fruits or vegetables at every meal. I walked for 60 minutes today. Onebyone - it was nice to see a post from you. I was thinking of you and wondering how you were doing. Bill - yeah for returning the book to the micro-library. Anniemaxx- Congratulations on your weight loss to date and how nice of your husband to give you a compliment and make dinner too. Curlyjax- how exciting your daughter will be going to college next year. What has she decided to take. Will she be able to live at home? Here they encourage the students to live in residence their first year. We still have two years until DS goes. Joy- I like reading your posts. Credit for posting and for having a plan too. Ennay - Thanks for the thoughts about meal planning, I think I need to make things easier so I don't even think about it. Also way to go, running for 30 minutes on the treadmill. Karen - thank you for reminding me that my ideas may not always be the correct way. I was doing the thought of "fake it til you make it" re the dietician. You made me realize I need to do this her way because it may be the correct way for me. I hope everyone has a great night, sorry if I missed anyone. Take Care Ann |
Sunday - The Holy Roman Empire ends with the abdication of Emperor Francis II (1806)
Diet Coaches/Buddies – Lunch with DS at a new restaurant (brunch for them); CREDIT moi for a sane meal. I had Middle Eastern Shakshuka - perhaps healthy, but certainly spicy and bracing. They left with some plants that DW was pruning from the yard.
Exercise was minimal as it rained off and on all day. Off and on with little accumulation - an annoyance for the gardener of my life. The rain is an issue since the new deer repellent requires a 24 hour period without rain so that it's not just washed away. Life is now centered around finding a window during which to apply the repellent. Joy (gardenerjoy) – Ouch for being overbooked so that there's no time for lunch at lunchtime. Karen (karenrn) - That's a new one for me that an audio book can expire; guess I've never figured out how that worked. Glad that your ant bites are healing. Ann (Newlifestyle) - Kudos for that 60 minute walk. curlyjax - Good luck finding a path in our job. You have a stressful future ahead while your kids are selecting colleges. ennay - LOL that you need to find a new distraction show for your workouts. Interesting observation that "maintenance is harder than loss" - it doesn't have the adrenaline whoosh of scale drop. anniemaxx - Yep, Beck has convinced me that we'll "always going to be conscious about what we eat." She suggests that it's a myth that skinny people don't track or notice. Readers - Quote:

Morning coaches!
Such a lovely cool morning after the humidity of yesterday. I don’t know how people deal with it all the time in high humidity places. Although my skin looks great in the summer! Lunch with former colleague was great. She is about 13 years older than me and when she retires I would love to get her job which she knows:) She is very fun and we talked for about 4 hours. It was great to catch up. Plus we split a sandwich and a cookie so the calories were less all around. Karen- glad those bites are better! how do you manage things like casseroles on WW? I have done it before but that is the type of thing that gets complicated. Newlifestyle- my DD says she wants to be a teacher. There is no way she is living at home:) We both need a break from each other! Plus it makes the college experience more fun. ennay- do you have hulu or netflix? I don’t have cable or the DVR but i can catch up on fun shows to distract me there. |
BBEI am glad you know the book so well. I like to have a kind of sticky note index (book marks) so I can look up parts of books that "speak to me" you are helping me learn the book and I am thankful to you. Cherries for $1.99 a pound are very hard to resist. Please enjoy them for both of us. I love chgo toerries buy like potato chips - you can't eat just one.
onebyoneGo ahead and buy another copy. It is so useful. also there is a book I used a lot titled 'Eat the Frog' it talks about getting that big task done first. I am curious about the carving wood blocks ??? I like your 1. Have a plan 2. Follow it NewlifestyleI think I am trying to talk myself into putting less emphasis on the scale. There is such a high when I see it go down. I have decided to enjoy the loss but not put the emphasis on it if it stays the same because I am building confidence in knowing that I did not have any unplanned eating and know it will eventually move in the RIGHT direction. curlyjaxI remember the day I started regaining the 100 lbs I lost. It was Halloween and I was sitting in my friends garage helping her hand out candy to kids. I ate one piece then another..... Kids and college. I have my third kid in her last year. Its expensive and tough. Some days I curse the school loans and other days I am thankful for them. gardenerjoyI admire your 'talk into willingness' I'll be borrowing it. I don't like the word sabotaging (my go to behavior) I like the idea of turning it around. Thanks ennayAWESOME idea about looking in the 'Maintainers' thread. Like you I like to keep it simple as far as repeating meals. KarenrnLove the protein drink. Have you bought any of the california farms products? They have an awesome drink called Black and White which is a cold brew coffee with almond milk. I mix it with half or third of a store bought shake. It chases away the chocolate monster. May work with your shake. newlifestyleI lose so many posts. There has to be a way to save. It is like you say frustrating. congrats on the walk Thanks to everyone for your input on the lifestyle question. Have a wonderful Sunday my friends. anniemaxx |
Morning!
credits, workout, weigh, track, plan. Went for a walk after dinner with the family to the icecream shop, but didn't have icecream. I wasn't hungry then, nor did I particularly want it, it would have been opportunity eating. "if I don't get it now, I cant get it later". totally unrelated :woohoo: yesterday. My SIL is a writer, it is a tough profession. Her debut book was listed in this month "10 books to buy NOW" in Oprah Magazine. I am so excited for her! curlyjax - yes I have hulu and netflix - actually that is all I have. I just have finished one show and have to find another to work through. Now that I know I can run on the treadmill I'll be there for awhile. I can't yet run outside because I can't make myself go slow enough. BBE - think of us who crave rain.... :) shakshuka looks good! More on meal planning - right now I am all into exploring new recipes, but one thing that has worked before is to make a week long meal plan and save it. I used to use foodplanner, but they seem to have gone belly up so I am in the process of migrating my recipes to pepperplate. Anyway, however you do it, save a week, including recipes and complete shopping list all in one place, ready to go. I got 6 standard weeks set up and then if I was feeling too lazy, busy, tired, uninterested to meal plan, just pull one out and that's it. That is the plan. For my family, we need at least 6 weeks or we can't stand the repetition at dinner. Also, and right now my freezer is bare because I used everything when I hurt my wrist, but I try to keep a few meals in the freezer. But yeah, all my creativity with meals goes into dinner. I like cooking and I could be one of those people who never eats the same thing twice if I had someone doing the planning for me. |
Good morning coaches,
I guess I'm so used to posting in the morning that I said good morning yesterday when it was late afternoon, but today it really is morning. Dh is very meticulous about his car so this morning we drove over to our house so he could wash his car and Otis and I walked back to the condo. I always do like walking with a destination in mind, but most of the time that doesn't work for us. Otis was delighted with the walk because he saw lots of new friends to greet on the way. Ennay What is the name of the book? Wow, six weeks of different meals. Sounds wonderful, but I'm glad my husband is happy with a dozen or so different meals on a regular basis with a new one thrown in here and there. Anniemaxx I hadn't even heard of the California Farms products. I'll have to take a look. I do use almond milk, so I would probably like it. I am not really a big chocolate person, but I do like a little now and then. Curlyjax We had less humidity here this morning too. The temp was still 83 but it felt better. As far as casserole type dishes, there are a couple of things I do. I often use Skinnytaste.com or Emilybites.com for recipes. Both of them give Weight Watcher smart points with the recipe. The other option is that WW has etools that has a recipe builder in it. You type in all the ingredients and how many portions it serves and the points are tallied for you. When I am at my own house I actually print out the recipes and then use them over and over. Bill Rain off and on all day sounds like what we used to get in Washington. Not often here, we get a deluge quickly and then it's gone. And about the audiobooks from the library; they expire in two weeks. They are free which is the part that I like, but sometimes I don't get started right away and then it expires before I finish. If there isn't a waiting list they can be renewed, but if anyone else is waiting the darn thing is just unavailable. I don't know how it works . . . as if by magic. Ann In addition to the fact that I am not always correct I often figure if I really can't swallow what I am learning, just take the good and leave the bad. I know we all have to do that at times since we are all so different. Isn't that a good thing. Everybody have a good day! |
