Checking in, in a hurry, to keep myself in line. I have weighed myself. I have eaten a good breakfast. I am about to go out and do a bit of shopping. Salad for lunch and beef curry (palak gosht) for tea. The sun is out and it's much cooler than it has been. 15C=59F. It will be pleasant to be in the garden today. I'm going to plant out the runner beans.
maryann, re low carb / high fat (LCHF), search for the Banting Diet and also for Tim Noakes. You'll get South African and Australian sites - fun! Banting is William Banting, not Frederick Banting who discovered insulin. Sorry in hurry.

Saturday - Rock and roll banned (1956, Santa Cruz, California)
Diet Coaches/Buddies – Eating was on plan enough, CREDITish moi. An afternoon snack appeared because a friend gave DW a donut for Donut Day. DW insisted on sharing it with me. It was an over-glazed standard donut from a pricy shop selling specialized donuts - including bacon. I'd known about donut day and had avoided the places giving out FREE donuts - separate full CREDIT moi for that. Cherries were my morning snack because they look so good.
Walk, CREDIT moi, included a stop at the drugstore where I always check the candy aisle. Don't know why I check it. Long ago, I used to scoop up the half price stuff after a holiday. I cringe remembering that: stale jelly beans, stale chocolates, stale valentine hearts. One of Beck's neat suggestions is to eat food that's really good and to savor each bite. Hard to think of savoring stale jelly beans.
onebyone – OK, fingers crossed for those vases coming out as desired. Yay for using your medical exam as a motivator to stay your path. [Yep, 'Blueberry Cake' makes 'cake' sound healthy.]
silverbirch – Fun to hear that the veggies are going in the ground.
maryann - Yay for the end of the school year. Kudos for finding gratitude for your current life.
nationalparker – Thanks for "just need to wrap my head around the benefits and not be swayed by too much 'fun' food."
Karen (karenrn) - Kudos for continuing to pack those boxes and Double Kudos for getting rid of stuff in the process.
KyraPal - Neat that you're already a believer in Cognitive Therapy (nee Cognitve Behavior Therapy). Love the thought, "if I could lose weight by taking a paper/pencil test of weight loss knowledge, I would have no trouble staying in the healthy range!" I do like that Beck helps me see that knowledge of nutrition isn't enough to stay on an eating plan.

Mostly OP yesterday; was not derailed by the 'special' donut Friday. Probably because the box didn't contain any of my favorites. But for whatever reason, I abstained. Proud that I went to lunch with coworkers and kept to my salad and didn't choose any of the sides this place is known for. While the Fri-Sun days are our heavy healthy fats days, I know olive oil isn't in this place's fryer or it'd have been a smokefest there.
I want to run to our market this morning and pick up a few snacks - chicken and beef jerky and some raspberries/apples for the trip and first day or so. Jerky is so expensive for the non-nitrite kind it seems, but it's an easy pack, on plan snack. Was going to prep carrot sticks, too. Just remembered that. Off to do that and keep rolling. Have a great weekend! Hoping the walking helps offset the food.

hi coaches!
My internet wasn’t working yesterday morning for some reason, so i couldn’t post. Always makes me aware how much we depend on this now, I get panicky when I can’t connect
I did really well a few days avoiding dessert or at least not getting carried away until last night when I overindulged and didn’t even enjoy it. Ah well-Back on track today!
We’ve culled out some books and travel stuff- maps and flyers we’ve collected, some going back at least 10 years, so I am psyched to go to the dump this morning and get rid of it all. Spring is definitely the time when I am motivated to clean out.
Does anyone have any natural ways to get rid of teeny ants? They are running amok in the bathroom and kitchen. I don’t want to use chemical spray so close to food/plates etc. We get them every so often and I have tried vinegar but that isn’t keeping them away.
Kyrapal- Welcome! I remember the days when my babies were that little. Great goals!
Karenrn- I am impressed with your lifting abilities! I need to get back to lifting some weights.
Finally figured out how to update my weight happy Saturday all!

Good morning, Coaches.
Weight at ticker. Heathy breakfast, green smoothie for lunch and dinner at friends tonite to crack our pecans we harvested and dried in fall. I plan on both strength exercise and a walk today.
I have one last day of correcting. i decided to just get it done today and be free. I am going to put on some old romantic comedies and just go for it. If I get grades done, Monday will be a quick close down and I will be officially on summer. It usually takes me a few days to unwind and get emotionally balanced after the end of school. This year has been so crazy it might take more. I was very moved that many students gave me huge hugs, thank yous and smiles. This doesn't happen in middle school so much. The the 10th and 11th graders were very appreciative. Even my 6'2 Indian boy/men gave me bear hugs. It felt good. Ironic because i am not a "huggy" kind of teacher. I'm actually a very private person. Still. These groups of kids were special.
In addition, DS was off to scout camp this morning. So I will be easy on myself and set a pace that feels healthy. I am committed to seeing my father down in Pismo for three or four days. He is never easy but the town is beautiful. I'll take lots of beach walks.
onebyone and silverbirch: Thanks for the references. I am going to do some research.
Wave to all.

Good morning coaches,
Food on plan. Exercise today was a walk with Otis. I lost a pound at WW. I have decided I will not stop but will set my goal for whatever weight I am at the end of the month. I am 3 pounds from where I wanted to set my goal, but maybe this is just a good maintainable weight. I feel great, eat very healthy, and don't have a desire to lower my calories much especially with the weight lifting. I am more interested in building muscle. I think I am a little stronger already, because the heavy cases of water and things I load at the grocery store are easier to lift.
Tomorrow dh will walk Otis so I can hike Bell Pass to make sure I'm not losing any hiking strength.
Maryann I can imagine your class just loved you. It certainly had some stressors, but it sounded like a good year. I would do just what you plan, get the darn grading over with and move on to summer.
Curlyjax I also love to cull and discard. I just need to remember that I can open any drawer and get busy. I don't have to wait until the mood strikes.
Yes, the lifting is going to be good. My arms aren't great (at all) and the skin is even getting a bit crepey, but I've decided I need to be able to go sleeveless in these temps and just do the best I can with the darn arms.
Nationalparker When do you leave for your trip? I hope you have some time to enjoy yourself.
Bill I'm glad no donuts appeared in my life. It would be hard to pass up. Even worse would be a maple bar. Actually the cherries sound even better.
Silverbirch Your temperatures sound divine. We're looking at the possibility of 110 next week. I will get away from here at least a couple of times this summer for a reprieve.
Kyrapal I'll have to take a look at the third Beck book. I actually have the second book and didn't ever have the first book. I think her tips are great though and I realize some of them are really getting ingrained and have become a habit.
Our puppy is a Cocker Spaniel. He is 8 months old today. He is a tricolored dog with more black than white and then tan eyebrows, a little on his face and his bottom. We got him from Rocky Mountain High Cockers in Denver and he is really a good dog. I do hear you about how well behaved they are when exhausted. I'm afraid he won't help me to be more active, but you see I have always been very active. Last year I hiked over 2000 miles, which included 500 miles of the Camino in Spain and some backpacking on the John Muir Trail in California. He will not be a hiking buddy because I don't want to take him out in the dusty dessert where I live and do most of my hiking. It's okay though, I need the weight lifting and as soon as it cools down again, I can get my hike and then take him for his walk. I needed to learn to be a little more moderate in my exercise and work on being more mindful of portion sizes and not just hiking more if I want to eat.
Onebyone My fingers have been crossed for you and I am anxiously awaiting word on the vases. As for Suzanne, she has the best of both worlds . . . Scottsdale from October until June and Park City, UT from June until October. When I win the lotto I will do the same thing.
Well, I had better get going. My nephew is competing in the Crossfit Regional competition and I can watch it live on the computer in 30 minutes, so I'll get a few things done first.
Have a great Saturday everybody!!!

The day
Coaches
Went to guild unloaded the kiln and... Yay! Stage one complete. I've attached an image for you to see. Next is the glazing so another round of "I hope it works" but it's a good bet.
Today I had an event at a gallery with my collective. I was outside with another member. While it was quiet for us, inside the other two were jumpin'. About 300 people, mostly kids, participated. So it's was a success. And while art materials were donated to us, we worked for free. I'm pretty tired of that. I've done, and do, enough volunteer work.
Weight wise the scale dropped under the last fixed point. Excellent. Today's food has been good. Credit. I have had enough water as well. Credit.

Sunday - Gold discovered (1911, Alaska's Indian Creek)
Diet Coaches/Buddies – Walk, CREDIT moi, found two houses with visible EV Service Equipment as necessary to plug in an Electric Vehicle to be charged. That made me very happy since I've seen few, presuming that they exist but are hidden in garages. Both were expensive models. Electric vehicles are appearing more and more; a $120K Tesla was parked in front of my house last week. That seems like a pricy car for parking on a city street but I drool to own one anyway.
Eating was on plan, CREDIT moi, albeit with all three snacks. We did a bird walk in the morning where we noted that many of the nesting birds weren't visible - it feels funny to be out for two hours and not see a single Blue jay. We did see a few of the attractive Cedar Waxwings.
onebyone – Thanks for the picture. If they aren't glazed, how are there images on them? Congrats on yet another scale drop.
maryann - Yay for kids who feel free to give the teacher a hug. Had to google Pismo - one more California place that had escaped my notice - although I do know of San Luis Obispo County because the name is so neat.
nationalparker – Super Kudos for avoiding, one more time, Donut Friday.
Karen (karenrn) - Sounds like a good place to be, "I feel great, eat very healthy, and don't have a desire to lower my calories." Speaking of John Muir, on today, in 1892, he founded the Sierra Club in San Francisco.
curlyjax - I share your dismay that we're now so Internet dependent. Kudos for being able to part with travel books; I'm inclined to keep them as if the information wasn't available anywhere else.

hi coaches-
today is national cancer survivor day, and we are going to an event our cancer center organized. It will be interesting to see who shows up! Plus there is some long church meeting beforehand and both events will have food, so I am reminding myself to watch what I eat.
got ride of books and clothes by donating to Savors, thru one bathroom, and got rid of lots of trash yesterday so it was very productive. And credit for not eating dessert and taking a walk.
onebyone- beautiful vases!
Bill- thank you for the link of that gorgeous bird. Lucky you to see it! I was thrilled to see a hummingbird outside my window the other day. When I retire i want to get into birdwatching!

Good morning coaches,
Food on plan. I got up early this morning to hike Bell Pass. I hiked for just over 2 hours. I turned around early since it was 83 when I started at just after 5 am. I am not that acclimated to the heat yet and decided that was enough. Nothing really planned for the day today. Dh is at the gym and we'll watch our nephew continue his Crossfit competition with the last 2 rounds today. He is way down the leaderboard, but it is his first regional competition. It is just crazy watching how strenuous each heat of the competition is. We'll also swim Otis again today. Yesterday I showed dh how we do it and he participated too. It didn't seem to wear Otis out cause we didn't swim him all that long. At this point he still has the anxiety component, so we don't want to overdo it.
Curlyjax It sounds like you have a busy day. I hope the National Cancer Survivor Day event is uplifting. I would think it would be.
Bill I've heard the name Cedar Waxwing for so long, but didn't ever know what they looked like. Now I do. The John Muir Trail is really going to be a scary place this year due to the high levels of snow and all the water it will make. I hope no one drowns trying to cross the creeks/rivers. I know one fellow who is on the Pacific Crest Trail now and just made it into the Sierras. I worry about his safety. But thank you John Muir for establishing the Sierra Club and all the other things you did for us.
Onebyone Each of the vases is very nice. Please post again when they are completed. I have no idea how much glazing will change them. Good job on working your plan and the scale drop.
Have a great day all of you!

Coaches
My weight was the same yesterday as it was today: 256.3.
I just hope to hang onto that weight this week. Would love to lose more but don't expect it. Though I will work towards it.My potter guild has its annual general meeting tomorrow night. Potluck time. I think I will eat very light all day to compensate.
Thanks for the comments on the vases. I hope to get the glaze on them tomorrow and they should get fired this week if I can manage to complete the other work that needs glazing as well. There is little work on the shelves to fire so I need to fill the kiln up!
Billblueyes: the colour you see is underglaze. The images of the silly walker are.stencils I cut from Mylar plastic. I painted the.forst colour I wanted into the pot where I knew I'd place the stencil, then put the stencil on it, left it in place and painted the second one colour over and around it. I let it dry a bit, but not too long, and I lifted the mylar up and it revealed the first colour underneath. This as done on leather hard clay pre-firing. Now, if the colour is weak or if I want to add or change something I can do that again. I can repaint with more underglazes. Then I will dip.it into.clear glaze and it goes.into the kiln for firing. It can still crack etc at this stage. Sometimes the clear.glaze interacts with the underglazes and shifts the colour so... We'll see what we get.
Karenrn I will post a follow-up.
Have a good night.

Monday - World Environment Day (1972, UN)
Diet Coaches/Buddies – Standard Sunday walk with DW, CREDIT moi, evaluating each of the gardens passed. We both enjoy that more and more folks have abandoned grass lawns for different garden designs or different lawn covers. An opportunity for a later walk met the reality of on-again off-again rain. Dinner was off-track. We planned going to a Mediterranean, mostly vegetarian restaurant. It was closed. Then we planned a fish place that's on our list. On our way walking there, the rain started so we ducked into another place we've always wondered about. "Anything fried or smoked is great," the waiter assured us. I had "Texas Rachel in a Skirt" because it had brisket at the core with caramelized onions. Sorta sounded healthy. Sorta. Don't think there could have been a higher calorie item. It was superb but portioned for an active teenager. I did skip the French fries, CREDIT moi.
The evening concert was "a unique blend of modern rock, folk, and Buddhist-oriented 'kirtan'" music. Wasn't sure that it would be my thing but I've heard some kirtan music that is immensely delightful and relaxing. This was like that - really glad we went. Since the words were in Sanskrit, there was a slide projection with the English translations. At one point in the concert the guy running the slides got confused but things were OK. Then one of the musicians left his chair to go help with little success. I could see how to make it work, so got up, went to the projectionist and showed him what to do. It worked; I returned to my seat; the musician returned to his seat; and the concert continued. That's a new one for me.
onebyone – Kudos for planning to eat lightly as prep for a potluck. [Thanks for the explanation; I didn't know about underglaze.]
silverbirch – Waving. Sending supportive thoughts as you now have to process the London attack. It is inspiring to watch the Londoners resolve to not be deterred.
Karen (karenrn) - Smart to be aware that you need to take precautions against the heat. Two hours is a good hike.
curlyjax - Yep, skipping dessert is always Kudos worthy. Cheers for National Cancer Survivors day.

This weekend was very busy but I generally did well staying on track. Saturday I was out running errands and there was a food truck festival. I got what sounded like the healthiest option, a taco salad with all fresh ingredients, but then it came in a fried shell that I ended up eating half of and when I entered the calories in my tracker I was saddened to learn that I just ate 2/3 of my daily allotment. Alas I did not stay within my calorie goal that day, but did get back on track with eating and wasn't too far off overall.
On Sunday we drove 2 hours south for my nephew's one-year-old birthday party. I knew this was going to be a challenge so made a plan ahead of time and told my husband about it on the drive down. Plan - no grazing on appetizers unless there happens to be a veggie tray (there wasn't), only one plate of food..no second or third helpings, and no cake (a small serving of one desert if there was something that really looked good. Guess what? I stayed on plan and it actually wasn't that difficult! Setting up the "rules" ahead of time made it easy and I found myself saying "That is not on-plan" whenever passing by the dessert table or glancing at the multiple appetizers that were placed around the seating tables. As an added bonus, I am very glad that I offered to make a salad for the party because this ended being the absolute only vegetable offered! My lunch plate was filled with 1/2 salad and then a small helping of potato salad and brat. I also had a big helping of fruit salad as well and then a very small serving of lemon ricotta pudding dessert my mom made. Things got a little off track on the ride home (Lesson: don't end your planning with lunch and have no plan for dinner on the road), but I did well improvising with a fast-food salad of greens, tomatoes, fresh mozzarella, grilled chicken and I skipped the dressing.
When I weighed myself this morning, I was so pleasantly surprised to see that my weight was actually slightly LESS after a day of traveling and partying! I cannot remember that ever happening before and didn't know it was entirely possible even!
Billblueeyes It sounds like we had similar restaurant experiences of trying to choose the healthy option based a brief description, only to be deceived. It makes me appreciate the restaurants that have the calories listed, but then this is mostly at chains. Great job skipping the fries at least!
Karenrn Otis sounds like a slightly bigger version of my cavalier spaniel, who is also tried-color and mostly black and white! I love how friendly they are. Any misbehavior is forgiven when I remember how well he does at appeasing my toddler's "hugs".

Thank you, Bill. It's good to have support from across the pond. London and Manchester are great cities with great people and great mayors.
Ariana Grande has just given a fantastic benefit concert in Manchester. It was outside her concert where the attack took place. I had never heard of her before. I'm so impressed.

I'm not on plan. What plan? I try to do well on a few meals and then punt. Tonight had ice cream at the place we were looking forward to it for a couple of days. I "stuck" with just the one flavor, trying to be "good" ... the one scooping it thought I meant just one flavor but two scoops! I gave part to DH and ate the rest. About 700 cal of ice cream/dairy+sugar that is NOT on my plan. I'm now worried my work clothes won't fit after a couple of days with off plan food. That's not realistic, but I still entertain the thoughts. At least my main meals were good enough.
