Default leaving on a jet plane

As a kid i used to think that song was about my dad...military and a lot of departures. Tonight when my brother and i were heading to the airport, he remembered the Rick Derringer song that the airport giveth and the airport taketh away. I didn't know it but liked it.

Sad departure from him. My whole life he's been a constant support and love. No drama. No selfishness. No bad feelings. Ever. We never left in a bad mood. We just get along. I've been blessed in many ways.

Dentist visit followed his chemo appt so i cannot utter a negative about my experience. It's done and I'm fine.

Aiming for personals tomorrow. And aiming for a return trip to visit him in June so that's how I left...saying I'll see him in 11 weeks or so. Maybe dh can join for a bit.

Hello Coaches,
I got back from vacation Sunday night and was busy. Vacation was good we were away for two weeks and I swam every day and just relaxed. I stayed off of all electronic devices and it was wonderful. The first week was a bit cooler but last week was great. I will try to catch up on reading. I missed you all. I hope all is well and everyone has a great night.
Eating wasn't the greatest today. I need to go ride the exercise bike.
Take Care
Ann

Thumbs up Wednesday - U.S. purchases Alaska for $7.2M (1867, from Russia)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – Walk, CREDIT moi, included stopping for an errand at the local CVS. And then I found a book on the cart that sits outside an old folk's home. My 50 cents contributes to something or another for the residents. That warms my heart since it's my full intention to get old someday myself, LOL. I don't need more books, so it goes on the stack. I've got enough reading ready for Armageddon.

Eating was OK. DW grilled salmon on the deck outside the kitchen door despite the rain. She'd been snookered by a FREE sample at Whole Foods to buy the spice they were selling. This by a woman with a cabinet full of Penzey's spices. It was good enough; the spices she normally uses were better. I didn't ask how much she paid since Penzey's and Whole Foods both charge for spices as if carried by camel over the old Silk Road.

nationalparker – Trying to shed the earworm leaving on a jet plane. Hope your return flight went well. Always Kudos for recognizing, "I've been blessed in many ways."

Karen (karenrn) - Yep, sitting outside in 77 degrees F is the good life. LOL at poor Otis having to listen to Christmas music out of season.

Ann (Newlifestyle) - That's good exercise, "swam every day" - Kudos.

Jeffrey made the following reminder card:
If I catch myself thinking, "I'm totally off track,"
remember that this is just an excuse. I can get right
back on track immediately, like I did at Will's party.
I'm never "totally off track" because being on track
is always just one eating decision away.

Hello!

I wanted to say hello before I headed to work this morning. The next few days are yet unknown. I've had many new stressors appear lately. Mom has water leak that is going to be a major project. I was on site until 9pm Sunday after working all day. Work is threatened by road project heading that way. (I had hoped it was not to start for another year.) I just need to focus on "today" but must sit down and evaluate our finances in case this summer is a "bust". After what I've seen in front of our house I cannot imagine how it will work around a business dependent on customers having easy access. Oh, well.

Ann(Newlifestyle), welcome back! Swimming every day sounds just great!

Karen, lol at Otis and Christmas music!

Nationalparker, welcome home. Thanks for sharing many touching moments during your visit with DB. Glad you will be able to return soon. Leaving on a Jet Plane is very near to my heart. Written by John Deutchendorf, Jr., later known as John Denver. I always loved it as sung by Peter, Paul and Mary and it took on new meaning here in Colorado as John Denver rose to fame.

So accompanied with stresses, food choices have slid a bit. I started listening to some OA podcasts which have helped to get my head back in the right space. I packed my lunch today. I made a written food plan for tonight and have made a mental gratitude list. Credit.

Take care everyone! I must get ready for work.

Happy Hump Day!

Scale stands slightly on the wrong side of 160s. My excuse is the cold medicine I've taken for three nights. Of course the two meals out didn't help either. As always, it never works taking credit for what I didn't eat rather than taking responsibility for what I did. I am committed to the gym today. Leg is getting better. In the end, it's all about exercise.

Enjoyed Fantastical Beasts on demand. I do miss new Harry Potter movies.

To keep the John Denver theme going, "Hey, it's good to be back home again!" Though i'm not returning to an "old farm". Got home to a pooch who was uncharacteristically exuberant to see me, so much so that she flipped and flopped around, worming her way through the straps on my backpack and then raced around like a goofball trying to shed it. Only a few hours of sleep for the second night in a row, so I'll aim to catch up tonight. Figured I'd weigh in this morning and then reweigh on Friday after the typical flight water weight drops, but I was at 149 this morning, fully expecting to see 154. Thought that might be off, so after my shower, I checked the other scale and it read the same. OK. I'll take it. Didn't drink enough yesterday, so figure when I'm fully hydrated, I'll probably add a little back because my rings are flipping around like crazy, not tight at all. I think the strays off the plan just stick in my mind SO MUCH that I think I'm doing worse than I am. But not counting calories/points for seven-plus months has been nice for a longtime calculator.

Bill - Your updates remind me we need to file our taxes this weekend. Every paper that is tax-related goes into the folder when it arrives or when I print the pdfs off, so no seeking mission for me. Not too many variables for us this year, so should be fairly speedy. It was cool to see a flock of some small egret-type birds (but not egrets) still going yard-to-yard eating stuff in the grass at my brother's ... they were there in November, too ... now they number 9-10 of them, yard-to-yard. From this highly descriptive note, do you know what they are? White, small heron/egret-like - about a foot high. long orange beak. Not near the ponds, but in yards. Staying in their little group.

Ann - Glad to hear that you had a great vacation and you were able to get a respite from the electronic devices. Wonderful! Good to see you back here!

Lexxiss - I have long wanted to visit the John Denver Sanctuary in Aspen. I need to move that up on my list, I think. Have you been there? One day, my brother and I were talking in the morning last week, and the sunshine was streaming in their living room and he teared up, thinking of the line "sunshine made her cry" ... he's like how sappy can I get!?! But we kept on talking about his lyrics that we love, "It's the sweetest thing I know of, just spending time with you ... it's the little things that make a house a home." They just get to me. Couldn't believe he's been gone so long. Credits for working toward a solution with the impending issues!

Karen - Hope your hike goes well today! You have really worked to build a good circle of those who can join you in your hikes/walks. That's so neat. So many I know have young kids and the time is just not there. I want to work toward carving out quality time for us to be outside or doing something soul enriching for us on weekends now - not just letting it get sucked up by chores and errands that I don't get to during the week. Being outside is always a mood booster when the temps start getting nicer here.

OneByOne - Hope you've been able to wrangle closer to your plan in the past few days! When DH and I started on our reboot in August, that became our main focus after work - it was like a job. Can you put other things on the back burner so you have the time for the food prep/filling fridge with just your on plan choices - or are you set there and follow through is the main challenge? Credit for keeping it as a focus! AND side note, I was reading a light romance yesterday in flight and came across your "all hat, no cattle" line that I STILL love. That line really hit me initially because I'd been saying I need to get off the pot if I wasn't doing something but I liked yours better.

CurlyJax - Hope you're feeling better, tummy-wise now, and that your rehab is going well. I wondered if the PT would help my arm last summer and was pleased to have found pain relief/strength/range of motion improved in both soon after.

Maryann - You, too, hope you're feeling better here soon! Spring colds are no fun. Sometimes standing down some tempting food IS a good achievement, so hold onto that as well. It all adds up! When does your school year end? Is it a traditional or continuous schedule school?

Just a quick check in. Food on plan and exercise was a hike up Tom's Thumb with a friend who hadn't ever done it. We both loved it. It's pretty steep so even though she is a tiny little thing without an ounce to lose, she had to stop and catch her breath a few times. I will admit that made me feel good that although I would like to lose a few pounds I can head of the hill without stopping. It was a beautiful day here. I did have a spoon of almond butter in the afternoon, but I accounted for it.

Better note tomorrow.

Thumbs up Thursday - Birth of Vincent Van Gogh (1853, Netherlands)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – The standard Wednesday exercise chasing the DGD, CREDIT moi. She interacted with a three year-old at the play space - the older girl perhaps confused because the DGD was taller despite being a year and a half younger. Interacting is rather minimal; both adults are poised to prevent toy stealing and bashing. Words just keep coming. She now regularly just grabs a book and sits down to flip the pages herself.

Eating was OK. Evening snack was double undesirable. DW found some bite-sized brownies in the bottom of the freezer. She warmed up two for me. Few things can make me drool faster than a warm brownie. I retreated to my office with mine. Undesirable 1: They were the worst brownies I've ever eaten - just awful. DW later told me she'd tossed hers after her first nibble. Neither of us remember when they came into our lives - they must have been VERY old. Undesirable 2: I ate mine anyway. Ouch! I kept thinking that something must be wrong with me and the next bite would be the delicious that I now craved. I know that leaving food on my plate to be discarded is a challenge, and now I know that leaving a dessert on my plate is also a challenge - greater than just skipping the dessert.

Debbie (Lexxiss) – Big Ouch for road construction impacting your restaurant. Kudos for, despite your stresses, "I packed my lunch today."

maryann - Thanks for the reminder that I don't have to go to the theatre to see Fantastical Beasts. Yay for exercise.

nationalparker – Kudos for recognizing "I think I'm doing worse than I am." [Don't recognize those birds without seeing them. Florida has so many neat birds that we don't have here.]

Karen (karenrn) - Yay for acknowledging that your hiking keeps you is pretty good shape. Kudos for stopping at one spoon of almond butter.

"Next," I said, "can we talk about this idea of 'good' foods and 'bad' foods? What do you think would have happened if you truly believed it was okay to have lasagna? Maybe not a restaurant-size portion but a reasonable-size piece? Would you then have said, 'I'm off track so I might as well have tiramisu?'"

"No," Jeffrey said, "I don't think I would have."

Hi coaches- super quick wave! Will do personals tomorrow. So glad I’m doing PT, I think it will do the leg a lot of good.
Stomach issues keeping me from eating less but somehow not seeing the weight loss yet, maybe I’m eating more than I think.
Beautiful sunny day today, yay, after many cloudy days.

Good morning coaches,

No hiking today. I decided Otis needed a longer walk this morning to tire him out. Yesterday he was way too busy in the afternoon. He is a climber and I have to be very careful so he doesn't get up on something and then find something to chew on. He especially like paper. He is now sitting on the back of a comfy chair in the office, but that won't last.

So I've gotten a good walk in and then a trip to Costco followed by the regular grocery store. I bought ingredients for a salad dressing I want to try making at home, so we'll see how that goes. I love those Asian salads at Costco and can easily do without the nuts, seeds and things to top them, but I like the dressing and they are way too many calories.

Curlyjax Glad the PT is going well.

Bill I just hate that when I waste calories on food that doesn't taste good.

Nationalparker I hope you're getting caught up on your rest. Yes you are doing well losing and then maintaining the weight.

Maryann I'm glad your leg is getting better too. I hope your week isn't too crazy.

Debbie Good to hear from you. That road project sounds like a big pain in the behind. And now to have it moving from your home to your work area. Just what you don't need, huh?

Well, off to make the dressing and try it for lunch.

Have a great day everybody!

Quick check in here as well ... getting ready to check the weather to see if any severe storms are closing in ... one wave of thunderstorms and heavy rain moved through but still under tornado watch. We'd planned to catch dinner out but I quickly changed my mind when the sky turned black. Came in and whipped up some baked sweet potatoes and topped with onions/peppers and black beans seasoned with salsa and spices. Surprisingly tasty. Revamping my take of "on plan" this week as I've been reading more about the days after being completely on the FMD... and feel a lot more reassurance that I'm doing ok on it. A very small percentage of what we eat is truly not on plan - no caffeine, no soy, no corn/corn products, very little added sugar in a product, no wheat, no alcohol for me/dh enjoys a beer once a week, so I am going to say credit for sticking with the basics with this plan. ... will be opening it up wider so more food variety/choices each day and we'll see how this rolls. Not enough water yet today, so will keep up with that in the next couple of hours and I'm sure get up at night.

Bill - Feel bad about the brownie for you. I would have done much the same thing with a few more bites, certainly it had to be good or why did we freeze it mentality.

GardenerJoy - How are you doing? Hope your spring is starting out well!

Thumbs up Friday - Dalai Lama begins exile (1959, Tibet to India)

Diet Coaches/Buddies – What had been planned for Wednesday walk to class got usurped when two gigantic cranes attacked the ginormous Elm tree next door. It needed pruning. Pruning a tree that big requires feats of daring and skill. The taller crane was used to lower limbs too big to drop onto the street. We'd moved our cars up the street out of the way, as requested. A good move; many large branches fell in our driveway. The neighbor had trouble pulling her kids away to walk them to school. It helped that the whole operation came to a halt to let the policeman escort them by. Some kids arrive at school with the best stories.

Dinner was chicken grilled on the patio, CREDIT moi, a good choice for on plan eating. DW believes the weather reports that we'll have two days of snow with sleet - a lousy way to turn March into April.

nationalparker – Kudos, indeed, for "sticking with the basics with this plan." Tornado watch is scary.

Karen (karenrn) - A climbing puppy sounds like potential disaster. Yay for a gallon of salad dressing makings from Costco, LOL.

curlyjax - Yay for Physical Therapy that's working. The body will decide when to admit that you're eating less.

#5: The All-or-Nothing Trap

If you really like foods such as lasagna, you're not going to be able to eliminate them forever, and you shouldn't! You just need to learn to eat moderate portions and really enjoy them. You'll still lose weight. Maybe not as quickly as you'd like, but having categories of "good" and "bad" foods is unhelpful. For Jeffrey, eating only "good" foods and cutting out "bad" foods had not helped him lose weight; he'd actually gained weight following this policy.

Good morning, Coaches.

Welcome, Friday. Although I failed to go to gym I did do my numerous physical therapy stretches. My leg seems good enough to actually attempt a walk this weekend. I will bike as well. Food has been OP enough to dip to 158. Four more pounds. I know in my heart the solution is to repeat my first four days of FMD over and over again until I'm at goal. Then I can do the full plan. This goes against what Beck wrote this morning in BBE's quote. It is not that the foods are "bad," however. Everything is healthy. I just need greater moderation. For today, I will repeat "Monday" of FMD and see where it takes me.

Less than two weeks of Lent and I have successfully adhered to my penance: No Sweets at work and no new clothes (shoes or jewelry). A thought came into my head that I would keep both up throughout the year. I could use the money saved to help somebody - my first thought was my mother and a second thought was a charity. For today, I will continue from abstaining from both. It feels good and makes me be more creative with my clothing. I also have a a few pieces of my wardrobe yet to be accessed because I need to be five pounds less. A great incentive.

Still under ticker with a day of much varied eating. Brought the same lunch for today as I made last night - it was good, but had to bake another sweet potato this morning. Meeting up with a friend from work just to sit and chat - seems our lunches are often just eaten while working, so this will be a nice break on a windy, rainy day. Productive day. We headed out for a late venture (9 p.m. is late for me to decide to hit the market) to Fresh Thyme and got a boatload of fresh veggies and fruits. I didn't go in with a lot of specific meals I'll be prepping, but one, Zuppa di riso al pomodoro (sounds boring - rice soup in tomato broth, basically), but copied it down from a southern Italian cookbook and am itching to try it. Cook a lot of veggies until they're falling apart, including 4 pounds of tomatoes which this time of year will be canned Italian ones, then strain and cook long grain rice in the broth. I remember this from when I was a kid, served warm - since cold soup is not a fave. At all. Excited to try something so mundane!

Bill - I just said to DH thank goodness our temps are higher so this heavy rain isn't coming down as snow.

Maryann - Keep in mind, too, that the added healthy fats in phase 3 of FMD encourage your body to release stored fat since the other two phases don't have added fats and our bodies start to catch on, and they help with satisfaction as well. With fewer grains and fruits, we work harder to process those fats (supposedly). Good job on the progress and good to hear your leg is improving.

Karen - I need a puppy. Never mind the fact that I don't feel I share enough love around our current pets. I know, I don't and won't go down that road until I have more free time, but boy, I hear about Otis and think, "I need a pup!"

Happy Friday, CurlyJax! Enjoy the weekend! Encourage your daughter to really look into grants, scholarships, aid, etc. There are so many odd ones out there that can assist. I used to work on a university campus for a dozen years and was surprised at some of the options. Some just for writing an essay on a subject, so they take a bit of work, but pay off!

Ann - Enjoy the weekend - I know you'll be tackling a lot after coming back from vacation. Seems like a vacation is needed after a vacation sometimes.
