Another box unpacked.
|
I moved another box off the balcony. It was mostly frames and pictures so it went, still packed, into the pile of similar items in my closet for that project.
The other things in the box were small, old, (possibly antique) kitchen items. Does anyone know how to get those into the hands of people who would appreciate them? I think Goodwill would throw them away, but a collector might really enjoy them. One piece is a large glass candy thermometer, about 10 inches long and nearly the size of a quarter in circumference. Good ol' mercury in the measuring tube, I'm sure. It's got a metal clip on it to hold it in the pot with a wood ball so that you can fiddle with the position without burning yourself. |
Why?
I remember a candy thermometer like that. Good thing you don't live near, LOL.
[Question for self: You haven't made candy since you were a teenager. You have no intention now. Why do you lust for it?] . |
BBE ~ nostalgia! :D
My dear fellow Canadian ~ you have a plan, but no plan of action! Don't throw a book at me now ... ;) Actually, I do know how you feel; we had to move last year too, and we gave away an untold number of bags and boxes of stuff to goodwill. To get started, I told myself that I had to do at least 1-3 bags or boxes a day until we moved; and boy did that help! Plus, I started with one room at a time, until it was complete ... |
Emptied another box. This one was helpfully labeled "Misc Books 8." I assume that once meant something. It turned out to contain books about hiking in Missouri and in Florida. No plans for going to Florida at the moment, but if we started hiking in Missouri, that would be an incentive to go to Florida next winter and do some there!

end of month decluttering report
Just want to report that the de-cluttering continues, little-by-little. Amazing the analogies between this activity and slow, steady weight loss. Just keep doing it, moving forward, taking the action in a prescribed and methodical way,and success will follow. Of course with the de-cluttering activity, it is easier not to backslide! Ex: Yesterday I gave away my latest issue of Nutrition Action Newsletter, because I was done with it. Hoarding a magazine doesn't have the same appeal to me as a decadent morsel of my favorite food treat. Interestingly, though, I couldn't resist the current issue of O magazine in the checkout line; the headline, "De-clutter your life". ROFLMA.:D The key will be to give it to one of my favorite pack rats when I have read it.
I have no idea what percentage of my work is done and what remains. It is safe to say I am not half way. Even if you take the basement and garage (ugh) out of it, I have not yet turned the halfway mark. The challenge is I have friends painting the entire house so it is chaos moving stuff from room to room. I have kept my pledge of 2 full garbage cans per week and I am organizing as I go. I am getting so organized I can't find a thing. :dizzy::dizzy: Who is in for March? I am in until I can get in the garden; at that point, the clutter is safe until freeze up. Priorities, you know. Gardenerjoy, serious zone envy for your first day of gardening activity. |
I'm in for a March declutter. There is really no need to save National Geographics from 1970 and later, is there? And then there's the box of stuff I brought home when I retired in 1998. It's time!

End of month report for February; no progress. As minor defense, I was sick for a couple of weeks and working flat out for a couple. Oh Well.
But, I sign up for March (new thread for a clean slate?). Need to cheer for maryblu bringing home an item (O Magazine) to help de-clutter; now that's my way of thinking. Did I tell you I've now accumulated three, as in 3.0, books about decluttering? I have them together on a shelf. Seems like a good idea. Maybe I should add O Magazine to them. |
One last report..top this
K, clutter freak Beckie coaches, top *THIS:
Today I threw away a box of Sucrets dated coded Oct. 1995. Date coded, mind you! I don't even *like Sucrets..well, obviously. Check book registers, unused, with calendars for the years 1992, 93, 94. The sad part about that is, I moved here in 1995, and there was more than 1 of them..*sigh. Was standing brushing my teeth with the medicine cabinet open...*DOH..threw away XSO's toothbrush; he left May 15. roflmao. See ya in March. |
Feb progress report
No progress to report really. Didn't do any of the things I had laid out for me to do. I think for this next month I will just aim to do something as in an extra bag of garbage, a box put aside for goodwill, or just adhere to flylady suggestions of doing 15 minutes of focused de-cluttering activity or her "27 fling boogie" where you toss away 27 things-don't stop until you've got 27 things in a bag OUT OUT OUT. Keep going truly is the message.
Good job everyone. We'll get there! |
MACRH thread started...
We're continuing the pursuit of clutter-free space in the March thread.
Join us there! |
February report: I didn't clear the balcony of my study, but I made a lot of progress. I'm down to three boxes and some miscellaneous stuff. I'm re-upping for March!
