Question for Women - Possible TMI
Ladies - have any of you seen any change in your cycle from doing low carb? My gyno can't figure out what my issue is ( on bc pill still spotting and having periods early ), have done all sorts of test and all come out fine. She thinks it's the birth control pill but now I've been reading where doing lc can effect your hormones and your cycle.
I read that it will probably work itself out after following this WOE for a few months. have any of you had any issues? And if so did it get back to normal after a while ? Thanks, Carri |
Carri... I have had a few different things happen to me (tho I am past Menopause) as I have started to get flashes (which for 6 years I never got). I was told that our hormones (estrogen and Progesterone) are stored in our fat cells and as we lose them and they break up.. they are released into our blood system and thus affect us... Sooooo Watch when you "woosh" and see how you feel during that time! I am wooshing these last 2 days (its my "funny" Woosh week and I am flashing LOLOLOLOL) Our bodies are strange things - but do have patterns! :)

Thanks Sue ! I have my annual appt next week with gyno so I'm gonna talk to her about it too, although she probably won't have much knowledge on this question...might ask my endo too.

My cycles have shortened but I'm also 41 so maybe it's just peri changes?
|
Thanks Shannon, I just turned 40 and I was wondering too if it was just my body gearing down for menopause, but I don't even know when that is supposed to start, for some reason I thought I wouldn't have to deal with that for like another ten years

I have heard many times that low carb diets make changes to women's health! I have never discussed this question with doctor but maybe you should? i think 40 years is rather early for menopause.

I'm not low carb, BUT I've done Atkins before, and I'm also on Birth Control.
I'm actually on BC because of hormone problems as my periods were... well, dangerous to me personally and also excruciatingly painful. Anyway, when I did Atkins, I never saw a serious change in my periods. When I started running, and working out, Boom, periods were lighter and started coming earlier. My doctor said activity can do that. When I got placed on Birth control, my periods suddenly were more "spotting" and less full. It took a while for them to sync up to the placebo pills, and then they did. You may be experiencing a mixture of activity and Birth Control. Personally, I didn't have issues with Atkins health wise, but both activity and Birth control effected my periods (and lighter was FAR better). Even now, I've been on birth control for so long and stopped being active after high school, then when I started working out again after a few years of getting big, my periods got lighter again. My Aunt claims that her periods are lighter when she east healthier vs when she has a lot of crap like complex carbs, candies, etc. So, I'm sure Atkins may help with that as well, especially since you usually don't eat a lot of carbs and lean more towards proteins and veggies, perhaps a healthier lifestyle is lightening the period. Ask your doctor, but from my experience, lighter periods were always a good thing. Then again, before Birth control, I use to just bleed for hours and even destroyed (like soaked through) an entire mattress.... So yay modern medicine! |
I have lighter periods and far less severe cramps on low-carb. I've also noticed that any drastic change in diet, exercise, stress, or sleep can cause changes in my cycle and pms symptoms.
