Sue- no telescope yet. This was our first meteor shower. We read that we were supposed to be able to see it without one. We were also thinking about August. Do you have a telescope? Any recommendations for new star watchers on a strict budget?

Mara- weekends are rough for me as well. We are having a lot of visitors this summer and I feel bad being on a diet when they get here. It seems like it is a little vacation for all of them and it should come with ice cream and fun treats.

Traveler... No scope needed for the meteor shower.. I just like taking it out to see the Globular Clusters (M3 & M5) and then Scorpio and Sagitarius came up and they have alot of Globular Star clusters.. I melted when I saw Omega Centauri ahhhhh you can see that in the very low southern sky around 1:00 am or so for a month... Go straight down from the star Spica and there it is! Telescopes.. shoot.. we have a member giving away a Celestron 8 inch.. giving it away!.. but if you could find yourself a nice Reflector - Dobsonian type.(Orion co. good place to look!). you could get a 8 inch scope for around $400 then need to buy just 2 eye pieces... oh what wonders you can see!

To start.. just post your starting weight and then your goal weight would be 5 lbs less. Weigh as often as you wish. I weigh daily, but some weigh weekly. It is totally up to you.. BUTTTTTTTTTTTT ------ The first person to lose 5 lbs WINS this challenge and gets to start the next one and gets their name on the thread header as the winner!
