Low carb pizza?

Hiya, second week of induction and I am really missing pizza, does anyone have a recipe or brand of low-carb pizza bases and topping that I can load with veg and eat?

Heidi 07-05-2011 10:53 PM

Do a google search for "Cauliflower Pizza". Haven't tried it yet but it looks like a possible fill-in for the real thing:chef:. In induction it would have to be a small portion of cauliflower so be careful. If you try it first, tell me how it turns out.

Hi roobear,

This is a recipe for a pizza I've tried...and it's delicious!!!

Crust:
1 cup shredded mozzarella
1/2 cup shredded cheddar
3 eggs
Garlic powder
Basil

Mix all ingredients together and spread thin on parchment paper. Bake on 450 for 15 minutes. Pat excess grease from cheese and add toppings. Bake an additional 5 minutes.

I used Ragu Traditional Pizza Sauce (5 carbs per two tablespoons) and put mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, onions, mushrooms and green peppers. I sauteed the onions, mushrooms and green peppers before putting them on the pizza.

The cauliflower pizza is really good! :)

The flax pizza crust is my favorite! :)

3/4 cup flax seed meal
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon oregano
1 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
1 egg
1 egg white
1/4 cup water

Change Measurements: US | Metric

Directions:

Prep Time: 20 mins

Total Time: 40 mins

1 Preheat oven to 425°F
2 Mix dry ingredients together in a large mixing bowl, then add wet ingredients and mix very well.
3 Allow to sit about 5 minutes to thicken.
4 Spread mixture on a pan or pizza stone and bake for 15-18 minutes until cooked through.
5 Add pizza toppings and cook until they are done (8-12 minutes).

startanew - I am going to have to try that! I looked up the dietary info for the flax seed meal and for most brands the dietary fiber nets the carbs to 0. Very cool.

The flax crust looks really good. I tried the cauliflower one but forgot to spray the pan so ended up scooping it off like a casserole rather than a pizza. I'll remember to spray next time.

The flax crust indicates you can put it directly onto the stone. Startanew, have you tried it that way? Do you have to preheat it? Just don't want to have another pizza casserole!

Kell- no carbs! But it still has lots of calories, so I limit it a little bit. :)
Heidi- I don't use a stone at all. I buy parchment paper at walmart, and it works great, no stick! If you don't have any, I just lightly spray a regular pizza pan and it works pretty good. I've tried the cheese crust, the cauli crust, and a few others and this is by far my favorite! Its crispy and really reminds you of a real crust!

Yummy Pizza Recipes!

Fakir, your pizza recipe sounds wonderful. I'm getting the sauce and toppings next time I go to the grocery.

Roobear, keep up the good work. :)

Thank you for this recipe! Although I love the pizza crust recipe with the cheese, I would love to try this recipe without all of the cheese. Do you have to spread the flax crust mix thin, or does it matter?

Arkansas Kel 07-27-2011 11:40 PM

For a quickie night, I just dump pizza toppings and sauce in an oven safe dish and bake till gooey and top browned just a little. Eat with fork out of bowl. Pizza taste, no crust. Easy. You might want to do more to make a crust to meet your cravings, but pizza dump is a good one to keep in mind for a quick meal night.

Heidi 07-28-2011 06:53 AM

Pizza dump lol! That's just sooooo me! Kind of like when I made the cauliflower pizza crust and forgot to spray the pan first - ate it with a fork.

I just spread it as thin as I can, the thinner it is, the crispier it is. Its really easy, I make it all the time on a whim, and it just takes a few minutes. :)

I'll have to try that last low carb pizza. I usually eat a pepperoni "meatza".

About 1-2 lbs. hamburger
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon pepper
1 ½ teaspoons garlic powder
2 teaspoons oregano
spaghetti sauce
Cheese
Pizza toppings like thin pepperoni slices

I preheat oven to 375 and mix the hamburger and spices together. I put it in a baking pan and smash it down to the bottom. Bake it for about 10 minutes and pour off the grease. Then put spaghetti sauce on the meat. Add whatever toppings you want. Place it under broiler until cheese is melted and pepperoni looks done.

The carb count depends on how you divide it and what type of spaghetti sauce you use but it's pretty low carb.
