Tracking carbs in Fitday

So I've been on induction for 13 days now, and I've lost 8 lbs. I haven't been tracking my carbs, though. I just figured that if I kept to meat, eggs, veggies, and limited cheese it would work out. Well, I decided that I need to start keeping up with how many carbs I'm eating, so I plugged my breakfast into fitday. It came up as 14 net carbs. I couldn't believe that i've been eating most of my carbs so early in the day, which would mean that I've probably been eating well over 20g/day.

I had:
2 slices of bacon
3 eggs
1/2 cup of pumpkin puree with a splenda packet
a decaf earl grey with another splenda packet

This is a normal breakfast for me, minus one egg. I would normally go on to have a grilled chicken salad for lunch, and maybe a hamburger or turkey patty for dinner with another 1/2 cup of green beans or spinach. I usually have 2-3 snacks a day: jello, cheese stick, or an oz of cream cheese mixed with splenda and cocoa.

So my question is, am I eating too much? Incorrectly? I've read the 2002 book, and I've reread the induction chapter just to see if I was missing something. Any advice you can give will be really appreciated. I want to make sure that I'm doing this the right way!

I guess it depends on your bacon. Most has 0 but if its cured in something it might have carbs. Then eggs have one carb each. the pumpkin puree might depend on your brand too.
Assuming your bacon is 0 carbs and assuming you use Libby's pumpkin puree (just a guess) the daily plate gives your breakfast at only 7 net carbs.

So i guess read your labels but it sounds like you are doing okay to me. Fitday might just be using averages so it might mean more carbs.

(that cream cheese and cocoa thing sounds yummy!)

Thank you, Elizabeth. I did check out my bacon to make sure it didn't have sugar, and I am using Libby's pumpkin puree. I signed up for daily plate and put both my breakfast and lunch in there, and came up with only 11 net carbs. Whew! I compared the two to look for the problem, and I found that fitday was couting my eggs and bacon as well over 1g a piece.

I did notice, however, that the daily plate is counting splenda packets and eggs as only about .5g, instead of one. I wonder if I should adjust that. I need to ease up on the splenda anyway. We're only supposed to have 3 packets a day, and its just too easy to have too many.

Anyway, thanks again for the daily plate suggestion!

Are you looking at the total carbs up top? It doesn't give you net carbs, just the total. You have to make sure to subtract out your fiber. I did the same thing until someone pointed that out to me.

Hope that helps!

Oops...I was talking about the fitday...not sure about the other site you mentioned.

Yes, I was subtracting out the fiber. But thanks for responding! :D

I have been using fit day too and found the car s higher than I expected. Ut I also like the insight into how many calories I was eating, who'd ever think I'd have hard time eating 1500 cals a day! However I find I. Am becoming obsessive about the calorie thing so I think I'll just log carbs manually and keep it simple. I have a tendency to obsess:o

That happened to me too. I actually started findig a lot of the items in fitday to be wrong. I am using livestrong.com now and the items that autopopulate the calories/carbs/fat/protein seem to be more accurate then on fitday.

But also it does surprise you how much carbs add up throughout the day.
