Sick...what to eat?
I ended up being sick this morning. I have no idea what to eat when I have an upset stomach and can't eat my normal stuff. I ended up scooping chicken noodle broth from a can of campbells chicken noodle soup. I only drank a little bit, just enough to try and settle my stomach. Later I had a piece of bread (not low carb. don't have none in stock) and then yet later I had a huge bun. I know all were nowhere low carb. But I knew I needed something. So my questions is....what are the options when this happens?

You can make cauliflower soup. It's low carb, Ok for Induction and tastes JUST like potato soup :) It's the perfect comfort food for me when I'm feeling kinda blahy. It's easy to make too. The recipe is posted under the "What's for Dinner?" Thread by Sandyfanny. Hope you get to feeling better soon.
Also some broth from boullion is a good quick fix too. |
Try not to make excuses just because you're sick. You could always make a quick soup with chicken, celery, broth and any other lc veggies you'd like. Just plain broth is fine too. You could make a hot chocolate using cocoa, splenda, heavy whipping cream and water. Cauliflower soup or broccoli cheese soup is a good option too.

the chicken w/celery (etc) probably would be the best option as I don't think my upset stomach would have handled anything gassy like broccoli and cauliflower. And you're right, i shouldn't have made any excuse. I wasn't prepared and next time I will be. Thanks for the advice :)

BrenM, I hope you feel better. When you feel better, the recipe for cauliflower soup is in the thread "Recipes from 'What's for Dinner?'." Vegetables like cauliflower and broccoli lose their "gassy" quality when they're cooked, for the most part. They get their bad rep from vegetable trays...
I vote for a simple soup made from chicken broth, a little shredded chicken in a base made from sauteed celery, onion, and lots of minced garlic to scare away whatever's making you feel bad. Too sick to cook? a scrambled or hardboiled egg will add protein and is easy to digest. Hot tea may be a good way to get extra liquids; the herbal teas are comforting and delicious. |
I don't know, I think if you are sick with a stomach problem (as I assume from you trying to settle your stomach), it's not worth it to be militant about the diet. No, it's not license to eat whatever you want whenever you want, and as soon as you feel better hop back on atkins. I do not see the harm in a few saltines or a piece of toast and broth if you can't stomach anything else.
However, if you just have a cold, then there is no excuse :) I vote for being gentle with yourself when stomach-sick, keeping Atkins principles in mind as best you can. |
I could not bellieve all the cauliflower suggestions, over and over again. I hate cauliflower, lol. I think when someone asks advice online we should at least come up with different things.
I agree with the post above me, though. When I'm sick, I'm not that obssessed with a diet plan. You have to do what makes you feel better. Even if you gain a couple of pounds, you can loose it when you are healthy. |
