Hello! I just joined 3FC the other day -- love this website!! -- and after reading some of the experiences of 3FC members I decided to try something new - Atkins!
So yesterday I bought the book "Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution" to learn more. Low carb eating is absolutely foreign to me, so I have a lot to learn. (I've been semi-vegetarian for many years). After having two children I was about 20 lbs over my ideal weight. I then started taking 20 mgs of Lexapro to help with peri-menopause/pmdd and my weight skyrocketed to 202. I'm now off the meds completely.
Like I mentioned, the low carb way of living is new to me, so I thought maybe I could post what I'm eating today. As I read the book and additional and information available online I hope I'll figure it all out -- how the diet actually works.
Breakfast
2 organic free range eggs scrambled in a pat of butter. A sprinkling of shredded cheddar.
Snack - Sargento Snacks Vermont Sharp White Cheddar cheese stick - it states on the package 0 carbs 0 sugar. But I've been reading that too much cheese "stalls" some people, so I'll need to find another snack most likely.
Lunch 6 -- Six slices of nitrate free certified organic/humane bacon.
1 hardboiled egg with a little ground pepper and more butter. I haven't put butter on my food for decades, so maybe I'm going overboard here!
For Supper I'm roasting a chicken (with a few pats of butter!) and then I'll have 1/2 cup steamed broccoli with another pat of butter. I won't eat all the chicken! I'm roasting the chicken so I'll be sure to have plenty of protein for the next day or two. (Plus I'll make a soup for my children).
I bought some English Double Devon Cream (0 carbs) which is heavenly stuff. I'm thinking of taking the drippings from the roast chicken and stirring in a tablespoon of the thick cream to make a gravy...
I also cheated a little. I took a HUGE tablespoon of the cream a few minutes ago for a treat! Right about now I'd be sipping a huge Starbucks latte and I readily admit I have some will power issues and a bit of a carb/sugar addiction that is going to be difficult to tame - but I'm determined!
Any opinions or suggestions on today's menu? Did I go overboard with the bacon?
I will probably be eating mostly eggs, chicken, fish, some cheese, during this 2week induction period. Plus I will try to drink the 8 glasses of water per day as well.
Oh, my other addiction is Diet Coke. I ordinarily have 1 or 2 12oz cans or bottles a day-- usually just 1. I know aspartame is a no-no, so I've got to stop this. I've already eliminated caffeine (I now drink decaf coffee)..
Thank you!!!
