New Book

Okay, I caved in out of sheer curiosity and bought the new book half an hour ago. There are several parts in it geared towards vegetarians! (I was once one) and pages of meal plans for that lifestyle. For vegetarians doing Induction, there is soy and almond milk, tofu, and vegetarian products made from soy and vegetables. It's kind of neat in a way.

If anyone has any special questions from the new book and wants me to look something up for you, I'll be happy to do that and post what the book says (thus saving others who are merely curious from spending $10 just to see what's in there.) :carrot:

JerseyGyrl? Hello? Ok I will play the part of JerseyGyrl. Soy and almonds are not allowed during induction. Dr. Atkins recommends giving up vegetarianism if one wishes to do the plan correctly.

Yeah yeah, I know! :)

I hope I didn't sound like a killjoy and I am sure you already know anything sanctioned by ANA after 2003 has no credibility.

Yes, I do know. And I didn't think you were being a killjoy or anything of the sort. No worries.

I don't remember that advice in DANDR 2002. ;) Personally, I really liked the advice in the 2010 Atkins book for vegetarians and vegans. Many (most?) vegheads are not going to give up their WOE and the new book does give them options to follow Atkins. Keep in mind that this means that they will start in OWL to include needed proteins and that their weight loss may be slower than those who do traditional four-phase Atkins. The new book does open up Atkins to a new group who in the past have been told by many to eat meat or forget about it.

There is updated info in the book that was not available in 2002 and I did find that interesting. Still contemplating the new OWL rungs...they do make sense in many respects although being in OWL rung 6, the new rung breakdowns don't apply to me. I miss the scientific explanations of Dr. Atkins' DANDR and there are some things in the new book that I just don't agree with. Still, I think it's worth a read and that it makes a good supplement to DANDR.

I totally agree with this. The new book does make a good supplement to DANDR....but, its not a replacement.
