Holy ----!

This is my seventh day of being on the Atkins diet, and I`ve lost 9.8 pounds! I`ve got a long way to go, but I`m just so thrilled to be in the 230`s again. Next week I`ll be in the 220`s! Suddenly this whole weight-loss thing doesn`t seem so daunting. I have so much more confidence in myself. I just had to share this with you guys. Hugs for all! :P

Great job! Woo hoo!

I went a little crazy with the smilies. :)

You are doing GREAT!

Now, there's a caution though - this weight loss doesn't continue at this pace. The first week or two, lots of water weight comes off, along with some fat.

Then, your body notices that it's lost tons of water. And your body gets nervous and sends out an anti-diuretic hormone to make the body retain water like crazy. So many people (most people?) experience a stall of several weeks after week 2 and some (like myself) gain a few pounds back and then stall. So please don't give up when that happens.

Remember that you are still losing fat steadily. Not only that, but you are changing your metabolism from a fat-storage machine to a fat-burning machine. That takes awhile. Your body has to adjust while it switches gears. You will almost certainly experience better health as you stay on this diet. Better blood pressure, better energy, better mood, etc.

You will get all these benefits as your body slowly but steadily burns that fat. Anywhere from 1/2 pound per week to 2 lbs. per week.

Slow and steady wins the race - patience, patience, patience.

Have you read the book or books by Dr. Atkins? It is so important to read the book(s) to understand how this WOE works and to understand how you will lose weight. Many people experience stalls and then whooshes on this way of eating. So you might go a few weeks with no loss, then within a few days, lose several pounds.

Welcome and best of luck to you, you are doing great so far!

:woohoo: congrats!

Thank you! <3 <3 <3

I haven't read the book, but my mom has gone through all of this before, and since she does the grocery shopping it's hard to stray from the diet. But if I don't know if I can have something, I ask. If she's not around to ask, I choose something I know I can have. I probably will get around to reading the book eventually, but I've got homework and stuff to deal with and I'm just never in the mood to read. ;P

Great job Rythm! Very motivating, isn't it...

Rythm 02-08-2010 08:52 PM

Yes, very motivating. I'll probably only lose about 5 pounds next week, but that's still 5 pounds lighter than I am now. By the end of the semester I'll hope to have lost 60 pounds (-3/week), just in time for summer. You won't see me in a bikini but I'll at least be comfortable in a standard bathing suit.

Btw, do you have an accent? Hehe... I couldn't help but ask. :P

Yes b'ye! lol...yeah, I have an accent. Not as strong as most, but it does come out after a few beer. I have lived away from Newfoundland for 13 years though...New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, Ontario and now back in Newfoundland for 3 1/2 years (gotta love the military life!).

Rythm 02-09-2010 06:06 PM

High five! ;P I love Newfie accents.

This is a question for the ladies: How much weight do you gain during your period? I only feel a little bloated but I've gained 3 pounds. :o

HealthierLori 02-09-2010 06:51 PM

I gain anywhere from 5-8 pounds each period.

Rythm 02-09-2010 07:07 PM

Ah, what a relief. If I put any more weight on I won't have to chain myself to the treadmill. ;P

cher37 02-09-2010 08:03 PM

I used to gain up to 8 lbs - but now, in my 2nd cycle since starting Atkins, my average is 4 lbs
TIP ... drink your water + some

btw ... Cheers! Crazy Canucks!! :coolsnow:

pssst ... hey "Rythym" - we've got a few boys from "the rock" down here in the valley! :drill:

& "SaskNewfie" - I'm an army brat myself, from Calgary originally - then Germany (+ back) & married me a newfie !
