atkin's diet will be stalled for a while

I found out last night that I'm pregnant. :D
What can I do now? I don't want to go hog wild and gain all this weight back because of being pregnant. What's the next step?

Congratulations! A friend of mine went hog wild as you say after losing a ton of weight on Atkins and really regretted it. She is still trying to lose that weight.

I believe that the maintenance phase of induction is appropriate for pregnancy, there are probably some resources out there.

I'm considering getting pregnant in the next year or so (or maybe two ...), so I'm very interested in any advice on the matter. I know I'm committed to the Atkins eating style so I'm glad it's an option while pregnant.

This was totally unplanned. I wanted to wait till next year....after I'd lost all the weight and maintained it for a while but I guess this baby had other plans. LOL
I wanna find out what maintenance level or carb # it is. Hope we gets answers. :-)

:congrat:
Dr. Atkins said the Maintenance phase is safe for pregnancy. Maintenance consists of plenty of veggies (including the starchier ones), dairy, nuts & seeds, fruit, legumes & whole-grains.
You may find the book "Atkins for Life" helpful to understand the Maintenance phase a bit better.
All the best to you!:)

HI, I lost 50 lbs on Atkins in 2008 then got pregnant. I gained back 25 extra lbs and really regret it. My son is now 5 months, I'm nursing and the weight just wont come off. I have been trying to lower my carbs again without going into ketosis but not having much luck. I just found out I'm preg again too, so this time I want to be very careful and not gain to much :(. There are woman who follow a maintenance level of Atkins and do good so that is what I'm hoping for too.

Congratulations ! It is important that you eat a healthy diet during this time. Ask your doctor's advice , what will be a healthy diet for you and the baby ? Tell him or her of your concerns regarding weight gain .

mom4life 11-17-2009 01:56 PM

I found a site that said to keep my carbs at 65-75 during pregnancy. Does this sound about right?
