Day 5

Today is the begining of day 5. I have lost 6 pounds and feel great. I learned something to share with some newbies like myself.

This weekend, I had my friends bridal shower. It was at an italian place that served everything family style. So, Chicken parm came out, three cheese pasta you name it. I stuck to ceasar salad and salmon. When everyone was asking, ohh you want some of this...I kindly said no thank you. Finally someone said is it the red sauce you cant do? I said no, it's the carbs. I was fine with it. Anway, Its easer to say you dont want it ( you dont want to be overweight right) than to say you "can't have". I know that other times when I have said I can't have that...I instantly got sad like I was missing out on something. Yesterday, when I said No I dont "WANT" that, I felt fine. Because I dont WANT to be overweight anymore!

Just a little mind set that helps me. Hopefully it will help someone else.

Sounds like you are on the right track!
I'm starting my third month. I think it's easier to say 'no thank you' after the first couple of times.
Hang in there!:D

Hi Shannon, You are doing great! I agree, saying you don't want something shows strength, saying I can't have makes people feel sad, yourself included.

Today is day 9 for me, and I feel great too!! I love this WOL. :)

I agree that "don't want" is miles better than "can't have", both for how it makes us feel, and for how others react. The former is a nice, assertive statement.

Have you ever noticed that the minute someone says they can't eat a particular food item, other people are on it like a ton of bricks? "What do you mean you can't?", or "A little bit won't hurt."

Glad you're enjoying the WOL. I am too! :D

That's a brilliant mentality, and I'll definitely steal it from you! :) I never really thought of it that way...

Glad I could help. Today is day 8 and I lost 11!

that is a wonderful way to put it! It even gives you a happy mindest. I learned early to not say "I can't eat that any more" and to say "I DON'T eat that any more".

When I get the inevitable "why not?" (like, say, from my FIL's nosey wife) I lean in real close and say (in proper X-Files tone) "Because that stuff will kill you!"

ROTFL!
