Lightbulb Things that make you go Hmmmmmm...

I heard a quote the other day that really made me sit up and take notice and I wanted to share. I have been "cheating" a lot lately and can't seem to stop myself. A life coach on Starting Over (reality show I am addicted to) said to one of the people on the show who is also dealing with food issues:

"Children cheat, adults honor committments"

That one really smacked me across the face and jarred me out of my funk. So simple but makes so much sense! I am a grown woman and I need to start acting like it!

What quotes have you seen/heard that have become a mantra or made a lot of sense to you?

“The three words women most want to hear from a man are, "You lost weight"”

Thanks for sharing these!

While I don't have any inspiring quotes to share, the "adults honor commitments" is one of the reasons I often use contracts to get myself over a slump. I know I will honor that written commitment to myself.

I kinda stole mine from a radio commercial for the breast cancer three-day walk here:

"By the third day, the old me wanted to quit...but the new me wasn't listening, and kept [walking]" (I substitute "going")

Kinda flipped the "i can do this" switch in my head.

Diet is die with a 't' at the end.

I like that one taken from movie American Beauty:

While asking his neighbor's advice on how to get in better shape; Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey) informed them of his final objective;

I want to look good naked

I think I stole mine from here. I may have heard it before elesewhere, but it didn't resonate with me until I read it in someones' post...

"If you do what you did, you get what you got."

Here's to never again returning to the habits that got me what I got!

Doesn't have to do specifically with dieting, but with people pleasing which I am trying to learn to put myself first instead of last. It is from a co-worker, but I think originated in the military...

Another variation: your poor planning is not my emergency

There are some great ones in the Burn The Fat, Feed the Muscle ebook:

"The strangest secret in the world is that you become what you think about." - Earl Nightingale

"If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll always get what you’ve always got. If what you are doing is not working, do something else." - Joseph O’ Connor & Jane Seymour

" Give so much time to the improvement of others that you have no time for the critisism of others"..this was written on the wipe away board at the Y... I like it because I think of people who make snide remarks about me, but also about the totally fit chicks that I will mentally critisize due to my own insecurities. Now I ask those chicks questions and find that they used to be and in many ways are still, just like me.

I like the one I got from Flylady, but I've modified it some.

Her's is "You can do anything for 15 minutes."

My modification is that "Anyone can lose 3 or 4 pounds."

I try and keep those 3 or 4 pounds in front of my eyes as my GOAL. Try not to look further ahead than those. Because I KNOW I can lose 3 or 4 pounds. I don't know if I can lose 40 to 60 (although I've done it in the past) or 100 or more. But I know I can lose 3 or 4. And if I keep losing 3 or 4 I will eventually find that I've lost those larger numbers too!
