I'm going to a formal in a couple of weeks and I have nothing in my house to wear. I'm going shopping on Saturday but want to know if anyone of you have suggestions on where I can go to find affordable (read: as cheap as possible. I'm poor, people) formal dresses. I want to look snazzy but I don't want to spend a lot of money because with me losing weight there is a good chance I won't be able to wear it again.
Is there a Ross near you? It's mostly last season, but they carry a lot of nice, pretty plus size women's clothes, both casual and formal, and have excellent clearance racks sometimes.
Do you need more of a gown/dress, or something like a nice suit?
When I was a professional classical musician I found really beautiful dresses at Lord and Taylor's. I know it's on the pricey side, but I got in right after prom season and made a haul (even if I wasn't buying a prom dress). Unfortunately it's like the dawn of prom season, but I've always been able to find something at Foley's.
The last two formals I bought were at Catherine's.
Not sure if they have one where you live but I know they have a website as well.
Good Luck on your dress hunt
If they have a Catherine's in your area, a lot of them often have fantastic deals on their close-out racks. I think in areas certain of the stores get more of that stuff than others. I got a nice skirt for $6 for my cruise and a top for about $5 or $6 that will work for dressy on the cruise. However, if there is no good sales stuff they are quite expensive
Tracey, you gotta move over here with me! Id lend you all that I have...lol I am a pretty cheap person and find that if I buy basic things off season I only pay half price if not cheaper then that. I bought a full formal gown (black with some shimmer in the bodice and a shawl) for $39.99 It was regular priced at $250.00 I have no where to wear it YET. But its a basic black dress that every woman needs.
Hey do you sew? Was at a frabric store looking for cheap fabric for a costume,,,saw some pretty nice stuff for $3-4 a metre. And I saw so many pretty trims,,,infact I saw this trim that matches my living room curtains so perfectly Im thinking of buying another panel and some trim to make a top...lol
