Default Excercise for someone with a bad back

My boss and I have been talking about exercising together after work, but we can't decide what kind of exercise would be best for him, given that he's older and has a very bad back. So far, bicycling doesn't hurt him, but we want to change it up a little so that we don't get bored. I suggested yoga, but he doesn't seem to be a fan of that idea (hehe). Any suggestions would be great

My husband has a bad back and he finds swimming to be an excellent exercise. We also ride bikes, so generally alternate biking and swimming.

I have a bad back too. Swimming, biking & walking/hiking are all pretty safe for me. You mainly want to avoid things that are high impact or involve quick twists and bends.

Since he's your boss, maybe you should try and talk him into a company gym membership

Haha, don't think I haven't thought of that, Tani!

Thanks to both of you for your responses. I think we're going to stick with biking and some light hiking to see how his back reacts to that, then add swimming when the weather gets warmer.
