Default Completely Exhausted

Oh ladies.... I need support! I am so absolutely exhausted, and have been for about 2 weeks now. I'm 15 weeks pregnant today, and everything you read or hear says that after the first trimester you are supposed to get a boost of energy .... well I felt loads more energetic & healthy back in the first trimester compared to this! I'm not throwing up or even queasy anymore, so I am eating, but I am completely wiped out 99% of the time. A few times a day I get a 'spurt' of energy long enough to carry a load of laundry downstairs or run the vacuum - that's it. Every movement feels like it takes all my will just to do it, and I'm sleeping well, about 8 hours at night and 1-2 hours during the day (napping w/ my daughter). I am taking my vitamin every day in case it was iron anemia, and I eat iron rich foods (cereals with 90-100% in them), so it does seem unlikely that would be it. I called the doctor and they want to check my thyroid levels today so I have to go in for blood work.I just had two thyroid tests (TSH & T4) a month before I conceived, but they want to check anyway. I'm on one hand, hoping something IS wrong so I can "fix it," because if this is just going to be 'normal' for this pregnancy, how in the world will I make it through the next 25 weeks???

I hadn't had a nap in over 20 years and then I was pregnant with my first!
I remember one time, I was hanging the new curtains in the 'baby's' room. I laid down across the single bed that was in there .... and woke up an hour later!
Mention it to your Doc next time but I think it's perfectly natural. There are lots of things going on in a pregnant body.

That is how my pregnancy was. Luckily my boss is not only a mother and grandmother, but used to be an OB nurse. She made me take two hour lunches so I could get a good nap in. My fatigue didn't go away until the 3rd trimester and then it was replaced with being uncomfortable! Pregnancy is not for wimps (as you know).

Oh what a happy day when your energy comes back! Good luck and I understand about you wanting it to be your thyroid but at the same time hoping it isn't.

Pregnancy is different for everyone. I had tons of energy in the first trimester, still a lot in the second, however, not enough to do as much exercise as I had been doing. But now, in the home stretch (due Sept. 23), I haven't been able to exercise really since August 6th. I walked in the pool until it closed for the season, but walking outside takes a toll on my back and hips. I've pretty much taken to staying in bed most days. 30 min. in the grocery store leaves me feeling pretty crappy. My energy has just petered out over the course of it. Others though can't exercise during the first trimester mostly because of nauseousness. But it's different for all of us.

Definitely get it checked out, but don't worry too much about it. Or try not to. Sometimes I think people just talk up the second trimester so we don't all turn into basket cases during the first trimester. In the meantime, get your sleep where you can, like you've been doing.

Thanks. What a bunch of second trimester propaganda we're fed! Must go along with that "you forget the pain of childbirth" lie they always tell too.

I do feel weird about it, hoping on one hand there's a pill I can take, hoping on the other hand that I'm still really healthy, just worn down.

I'm going to try to add some walking back every day. I was doing well with that, then in the past two weeks, most days I'm too pooped. There is a public library that is about a 10-minute walk one way from my house (pushing a stroller) so we will venture over there after dinner. The good thing is once we get there, I can sit in the a/c and relax for a half hour or so before we have to head back!
