Default gym scale vs. home scale....

Oy vey.

I just got on the scale at the gym and I weigh 9 pounds more than on my home scale. Do you guys think they up it a little so you don't get too confident and quit going? I'm pretty sure mine at home is the more accurate one.... what do you think?

I dobut they intentionally keep their scale "off". And, I don't think it matters which is the most accurate since how many pounds you've lost will be the same on both of them. The most important thing is to choose one and stick with it, remembering to always weigh at the same time of day and under the same circumstances.

Did you weigh after your workout, by chance? I find that I always weigh more after exercising - probably because of the water being "held" by my muscles. I know I've always been advised not to have my measurments taken after working out for the same reason.

yeah it was after. I'm not stressed because I usually weigh same time, etc. on my home scale, and I KNOW i have lost. Just annoying to see the number that was there before i started losing, on a different scale.

The trick is using one scale and being consistent. Is the gym scale calibrated and certified? The one we have in our clinic is accurate for that reason alone. I find it some what consistent with my home scale when my weight changes, although they give me 2 different readings.

I didn't know that "Jawsmom" I wondered why I weighed more, I thought yesturday that I might have done something wrong (eating) but I knew I hadn't broken my diet.

OT - Jawsmom, thank you for mentioning that! I didn't know that your muscles retain more water after exercising. Very good to know.

I don't weigh myself anywhere but home. I was weighed at a doctor's appointment about a month ago, and it matched my home scale exactly that day. As long as the numbers are going down according to one scale, you're losing weight whether the exact number is perfect or not.

Me too, I lose tons of water in sweat when I run (lovely image for you all). Although it depends, if I'm doing weights rather than cardio I don't lose so much water.
