If you log all you eat on fitday.com, you'll find that phase 1 isn't as carb restricted as the induction phase of Atkins. You really are allowed as many good veggies as you like, plus beans. Basically all foods, except meats, have some carbs so if you are eating a balanced diet in phase 1 of veggies, protein and dairy you'll have many carbs each day. You are moving over from Atkins, right? It will be a lot less carbs then those who eat a typical American diet, or follow the USDA food pyramid. (Have you seen the new one yet? Yuck, so confusing.)
Just ignore the number of carbs on products, look at the ingredient lists-see where sugar is on the list. If it's in the top 4-5 ingredients it may not be a good for this woe. Some things have natural sugar, like milk lactose and tomatoes, those don't count. So looking at g of sugar on the package sometimes doesn't help as much. It sounds confusing, but it's not that bad. Once you get the hang of it, you'll do fine.
edited to add:
You can make your own ices, freeze some sugar free kool-aid or sugar free soda and then throw them in a blender and eat them with a spoon, sometimes you need to add a little water then you have a slurpee.
Take care,
Sarah
