I know..only how many weeks until Christmas

You know, no-one the doc or hospital has even said that i've to go back and see them again the doc just said to wear the cast for 3-4 weeks and if I get it off by 3 then good..little does she know that I have the thing off more than on then its back to physio i'm not supposed to move it or exercise at all at the moment Frus but I am because i'm bothered that i'm really losing mobility and i'd sooner deal with pain than that I don't think I need the docs OK to fly I never even thought of asking her now thats one more thing to worry about

Cat - hope your arm's OK soon!

Anyway, I'm back. I'm not quite addicted enough to post from Greece yet. Very very good holiday. Summary, to be split into the good, the bad and the cheese...

The good:

Our studio was in a typically Greek village on a cliffside. This meant lots of steps, hills, a nice walk to the main town along the cliffside (downhill going there, very much uphill on the way back). Boy did that work my legs.

Walking up volcanoes. Also good for working the legs. I was one of the first of our (big) group to make it, and very proud of myself.

Ditto walking up to mountainous headlands to see ancient Greek remains. Admittedly we parked at the end of the road and only walked the rest, but that's because I was with my mother. I was up for walking the lot, but I can't kill her off just yet. She has many medical conditions and wasn't exactly as keen on the exercise as I was (she didn't do the volcano either).

My thighs. Not even the tiniest bit of rubbing on the days I wore skirts and dresses. The first time I've escaped that on a holiday since I was about 12. Admittedly I mainly wore shorts if I was walking a long way, but one day I must have walked for over an hour without any rubs. And I swear that when I looked in the mirror they almost looked as though they didn't touch under my skirt.

The bad:

Beer. Ouzo. Wine. I went with a vague idea of only drinking in the evening and drinking water until then. Well, that didn't work then. My resolve crumbled within the first 24 hours. Oops...

Not drinking enough water. See above.

The size of the swimming pool. I say swimming pool. I mean jacuzzi. We were on a cliff side. Just about the only thing they had space for was a tiny little dipping/jacuzzi pool. You could touch both sides at the same time. Not exactly going to get me much exercise. In truth, it wasn't really swimming weather. Lovely and sunny, but more walking around sunning yourself rather than needing to cool off every 30 minutes. So my idea of swimming lots while I was over there kind of didn't happen.

Birthday cake. Not a Greece thing, although it was my birthday while I was over there (cue Greek birthday cake). But this morning I had to do the buying cakes for people at work thing. Why did I choose cakes I really like? It struck me later that the sensible thing to do would have been to buy cream cakes which I don't really like eating rather than little chocolatey bite things from M&S. Then I wouldn't have been eating them all day.

The cheese :

My nemesis. Feta cheese and bread (my other holiday nemesis) for breakfast. Peppers stuffed with cheese for lunch (well, at least there was some veg there...) Fried cheese (saganaki is one of the most wonderful foodstuffs on earth. Shame it's essentially fried cheese in batter ). Baked cheese. We went to one taverna quite a lot (mainly due to the quality of its saganaki ). They noticed we liked cheese (my mother would have cheese sauce on her meat. I wasn't that bad). So instead of the little glasses of sweet wine at the end with the bill. They brought us a slice of cheesecake. This cheesecake was seriously the most delicious cheesecake I have ever eaten. Ever. And I've eaten a lot of cheesecake. So we had a few more slices over the course of the week. I think I ate more cheese in a week than I have done since Christmas. A lot more.

The damage:

2lb on this morning. I'm quite pleased with that. I reckon I must be retaining some water as I've been drinking nowhere near enough of it (trying to persuade myself that anyway!), so I'd steeled myself for about 2lb of fat and a bit more water. So no worse than I expected, and possibly a bit better if there is some water there. And I trust myself to get it back off again, which is why I let myself do what I want in the first place rather than trying to diet on holiday.

Sounds like a fabulous holiday, YP - and 2lbs gained (even if it's ALL fat, which is unlikely) isn't too bad at all for a birthday/holiday combo.

I think a shake of the pompoms is in order...

Hi YP1, you were missed!!! Glad you had a fab holiday, better to gain 2lbs having a great time and eating good food, that 2lbs watching telly, being bored and eating junk. That's my theory anyway!

My birthday week starts tomorrow, we are going out for dinner with work, and I will stray off plan from tomorrow until Sunday I am planning to try and maintain this week, no losing for me!!!! Doesn't bother me, would rather have fun and then get back into it on Monday!

It's nice to have the family back together again, I think frus and YP1 you need to start setting me challenges on the exercise you are putting me to shame!!!

Oh I bought a red top and size 22 jeans today!!!!!! I was so happy!!!!!

YP your holiday sounds GREAT! And well worth the 2lbs on! I managed a half a stone on in New York and the food was mainly JUNK!

kyk, today is my "rest" day - We're going to London, so probably quite a lot of walking anyway, maybe I should wear my pedometer! I'm sure once work has settled down a bit you'll get your butt down the gym!

Hi all, June already!

If you really want to know Cat, i mean, really, really want to know - well it's 206 days till Christmas

Glad you had a good holiday YP, 2lbs is a great result in my book, I usually add at least 7lbs on a holiday, so I think you can feel very proud of yourself, you'll lose that in no time - Well done you

Not done much today, we went to the Theatre last night, took my daughter to see a version of Roald Dahl's "The Witches", it was excellent, we all really enjoyed it, as we did the Pizza that preceeded it - oops. It was lovely and I'm going out tonight with a group of friends, so this half-term hols is turning into a bit of a food fest! But I've been quite active and am still exercising. I posted on the exercise forum for some advice with my jogging, which is still a bit of a non-event, and received some help and suggestions, which I tried this morning. It's basically timing yourself and running for say, 90 seconds, followed by 90 seconds walking and then each week you increase the jogging element, and reduce the walking. It's a good way of monitoring your progress. It was still hard work, but we went a little bit further so although I feel I walked more, I also ran more, so I'll see how this goes for a while.

Take care all

Hi Tamara, just noticed your post in the May chat thread re pedometers. I got mine in Boots, it's their own make and cost £10. It does everything I need it to, counts steps obviously, but also cals burnt, and distance moved, plus a stop watch. You can reset each item individually so for example you can time a walk, or it's length but still have your number of steps for the whole day. You can also programme in your weight, to give a more accurate calorie reading and your stride, for the distance. It was £5-£10 cheaper than some of the other makes they had, and like I say it covers what I need. It's very accurate too, I had a cheaper one before that changed everytime you opened up the cover! I'm pleased with it - oh and it wasn't called a Pedometer but a Calorie Counter or something like that, I nearly overlooked it as I didn't think it was a Pedometer.

Happy shopping x

Well I've just got back from the quacks and the results from my blood tests are in i've got high cholestrol but i've got more good cholestrol than bad still HIGH though my blood pressure is still HIGH and my EKG is abnormal so I have to see a heart specialist. I've just been to the hospital for x-rays of my knees and right hip, suspect arthritis and i've to go to the Vampires office again to have more blood tests oh, and when she saw my arm I have to see a specialist for that too so it looks like my trip to England is off for the time being anyway. At least I got the dreaded pap smear and breast exam over with today
