Default steps to AP's?

Does anyone know how to convert steps into Activity Points? I'm using a step counter, and can't figure out how to convert the number of steps walked into activity points for WW.

Default Activity points calculation

Not sure about converting steps but for activity points
If you don't have the actual WW calculator this may help:

Thanks to Kelly_S who had originally posted this info on another thread

Activity points are based on time done*current weight*intensity. Sweat is not a valid indicator of intensity. Heart rate is the best indicator but breathing is a good indicator.

Light Activity (you can talk and sing):
Weight X Minutes X .000232 = Activity Points

Moderate Activity (you can talk but not sing):
Weight X Minutes X .000327 = Activity Points

High Activity (you need deep breaths to talk):
Weight X Minutes X .0008077 = Activity Points

Weight training is a low intensity work out unless you do it on a circuit trainer where you are running from station to station.

You can't convert steps to APs because you need to know intensity * time done * your current weight (like the formulas show).

To help be fit and healthy recommendations are to strive for 10,000 steps. This article may help you:

Simple goal: 10,000 Steps A Day in the Arizona Daily Star, Thursday, May 19, 2005

The goal of walking 10,000 steps a day is an easier, more effective fitness program for sedentary people than counting minutes walked.

In a new study women asked to take 10,000 steps a day exercised more than those given the goal of walking 30 minutes on “most days of the week.”

Easy to measure
1) Obtain an inexpensive pedometer; no need to calibrate it for your step length.
2) Wear it all day; ignore its reading on calories and distance

What the numbers mean for people with sedentary jobs:
2,000 steps - very little walking; day spent mostly sitting and driving
4,000 steps - short walks, stair climbing; perhaps an extended walk
7,000 steps - several extended walks, many short walks
10,000 steps – 30 minutes or more of steady walking, frequent short walks

Kel,

Have you tried walking 10,000 steps a day before? Sounds like a LOT of walking. Is it possible to squeeze that into your day by just parking your car farther away, taking stairs vs. elevators, etc, or do you need to make an effort to take time off and "go for 10-20-30 minute walks"?

I go to the gym so I don't squeeze in any more steps than I have to. LOL! Supposedly yes you can work in 10,000 steps a day easily.
