Default Whole grain pastas

In the New York Times food section today, they had an article where they taste-tested a lot of different brands of whole grain pasta.

Hey Cher, I'd be interested in this. Did you read it online?

No, we get the NYT at home. The article is online, but it doesn't seem to include the ratings chart. I'll check at home and post some of the winners.

OF the more than 35 pastas I tried, these are the best.

Flat Whole-Wheat Pasta
All with 5 to 7 grams of fiber, 180 to 210 calories per 2-ounce serving.

BIONATURAE fettuccine and spaghetti is good. Both are organic.
DE CECCO linguine is toothsome and good.
PASTA RISCOSSA linguine is nicely toothsome; a bit nutty.
WESTBRAE organic spaghetti has good texture.
LA TERRA E IL CIELO organic capellini is neutral.
WESTBRAE organic lasagna has nice flavor and O.K. texture.
ANNIE'S organic spaghetti is not as smooth as others.

Other Flat Pasta
With 2 or 3 grams of fiber, about 200 calories per 2-ounce serving.

EDEN buckwheat soba is pleasant and neutral.
TINKYADA brown rice spaghetti style (with rice bran) tastes like Asian rice noodles definitely not whole wheat.
TINKYADA brown rice lasagna (with rice bran) has texture that is acceptable.

Whole-Wheat Shaped Pasta
With 5 or 6 grams of fiber and about 200 calories per 2-ounce serving.

BIONATURAE organic fusilli has good texture.
HODGSON MILL elbows have good texture.
LA TERRA E IL CIELO farro penne, which is organic, has texture that is among the better ones.

Other Pasta Shapes

TINKYADA brown rice elbow with rice bran (2 grams fiber and 210 calories) tastes like rice noodles.
EDEN kamut spirals, have a neutral taste.

I just bought a whole wheat noodle by Ronzoni. I haven't tried it yet but will let you know how they are.

Pnuts, I don't think the Ronzoni are Core. Check the ingredients. I think Ronzoni is whole wheat blend and not whole wheat. I bought that brand too when I first started. I ate them too and still lost but didn't buy them again. I buy Bella Terra brand at my Jewel and Hodgson's Mill at my Super Kmart.

I noticed in our market that Barilla has come out with a line of whole wheat pastas. Are these core?

Default Hmmm

Vicki-
What do you think, the front says whole wheat blend. The ingredients are semolina (wheat), wheat bran, wheat fiber, egg whites, etc. It sounds like core right?

I still don't think that brand is Core. It's the blend part that I think is the problem. I think it isn't whole grain. It just might slow down your loss a little bit or maybe trigger some other craving. I'd try to find the whole grain not blend next time you buy them.

I haven't seen the Barilla ones, Woo. Just check the ingredients to be sure that it say whole grain and not blend.
