I have the Good Fats, Good Carbs guide and I know it lists the better options for certain foods. I am eating out chinese tomorrow night and want to make the best choice possible.
I mentioned this in the daily chat thread, but thought if I posted it out here...I might get more response to my question.
Well, I'm not sure what specific recipes are SB friendly, but our local chinese place will make dishes w/o sauce or w/ the sauce on the side. I'm always partial to steamed fish w/ black bean sauce (on the side)...yummy. Most of their sauces contain a lot of refined sugar so I go really light. Also, you can ask for leaner meat options, for example my SB buddy orders unbreaded, white meat chicken in General Tso's (sauce on the side) instead of the fried miscellaneous meat. Not all restaurants are as accomodating, though.
Avoid all rice or pasta. Nothing fried. Make sure they don't use MSG. Watch out for sauces with cornstarch. Soy sauce would be okay. Basically, I would think you would be okay with stir fry. Chinese is one thing I have been avoiding eating out since it is easier to cook it at home where I know I can eat the rice and I know what is in the sauce.
The only item specifically mentioned in the guide is egg-drop soup. He says to stay away from MSG, ask for things with no added cornstarch, and eat steamed veggies and meat. Not much help...check online to see what you can find for the ingredients in garlic sauce and black bean sauce. Might be something you can have.
