Hi all, since this came up on another thread, I was wondering--has anyone else had the experience of a string of mean, self-centered, egotistical, judgemental doctors, before finally finding the right one, who helped diagnose your PCOS? I really think that such physicians should in someway be held accountable, and from my own experience at least, there are way too many of them!

Try feeling that way about your family doctor. She's just unsympathetic and uninformed and she's rail thin so there's no compassion for people who struggle with their weight. She turned me off to all doctors for years. When things were really going wrong with my health (I suspected thyroid - this was pre-PCOS diagnosis) she ran blood tests and basically told me it was all in my head and if I was asking her why I wasn't losing weight that it was a different question. I didin't go back until a year later for a referral to gyno because I was having big problems with my cycle and that was when things got better for me because I finally found someone who believe that I didn't sit at an all you can eat buffet 24 hrs a day. My gyno was awesome and told me the first day I was there that he didn't even need to see blood tests but if I'd rather wait for the results before going on the meds that he was fine with that. I know, it's so frustrating they all look at you like you're too lazy to put effort into your health. That's when you have to arm yourself with more info than they'd ever believe you have and start firing some facts back at them. I have decided that I will no longer accept their "me doctor, you dummy" attitude. As for my family doctor, I haven't seen her in 3 years. I go to my gyno for as many things as I can, and for everything else, I let it run its course or I just deal with it. I think she got her licence from a kids toy store.
By the way, thanks for your reply. I replied with a very detailed message and when I went to send it (because it opened in another window) the system said I wasn't signed in and it got erased. I've been too drained to type it again (but I will later). I'm late for work so I gotta get going and do something about this hair. The humidity is going to kill me today.

Well... I told my story a whole lot of times, and nobody needs to hear it again.
In summary, I went through one weight loss specialist, 4 endocrinologists before I found the one I have now, and since seeing her I've seen another reproductive endocrinologist and another medical endocrinologist who were unable/unwilling to help.
And that does't count the GYNs that I saw from 17 on (2 or 3 different ones) who said that there was nothing they could do, or the doctor's diets from primary care doctors.
And the 'sub doctors' that I've had to go to for various things, like the plastic surgeon, or the primary care doctors who have assumed that a gastric bypass would fix my problems... In all, other than my endocrinologist, I've had ONE and a HALF (I'll explain that in a moment) doctors believe me. The one doctor is my GI specialist, and she belongs to my gym, so she has seen me there working out... that and the blood work convinced her. The half a doctor was the general surgeon I saw for the GI issue (I may need surgery to remove my gall bladder), and he only half believed it because his wife is a reproductive endocrinologist. When I say half, he believes in PCOS... but he was stunned and kept repeating to himself (or asking me), "You gained 180 pounds in 2 years????"
