I had a great weekend - went out shopping with my mum on Saturday and we picked her up some great summer clothes from Additionelle.
Sunday we cleaned our van out as we are trading it in on Wednesday for a new (well used but new to us) Ford Escort wagon. Can't wait- it will be cheaper on gas and it has air conditioning
DH and I also planted some flowers in our window boxes, cleaned and rearrange our computer area and then went for a drive to the Dairy Queen
my weekend was so so. finally finished my political science class. that alone made me want to celebrate. spent most of last night trying to kick hubby's butt at frogger. after watching him play golf on the ps2 for HOURS i figured if you can't beat 'em join 'em. . today is rearrange my brain day.
Happy Memorial Day everyone.
Memorial Day always tends to bum me out a little. As the oldest female of my generation, from a Southern family, it's been my job to arrange the funerals for relatives who have died. In the South there used to be a tradition of having a picnic at the burial site of a relative on Memorial Day, usually the patriarch of the clan. I don't know whether people still do that.
Almost all of them died from some combination of bad habits: smoking, overeating, no exercise. The ones who lived a long life were slim, exercising, non-smokers. Like my great-grandfather, who lived to be 97 or 98, I forget which. Right up to the end he would walk a 4 mile round trip every day, sit in the park, crack dirty jokes with his buddies, and harass passersby, especially if they were young girls. Pappy was a skanky old geezer. I guess that's my ambition in life too. Happy Memorial Day, everyone.
This was my first Memorial Day that I did not make the drive to Tennessee. The crew was with their dad so I spent most of Saturday alone. I bought a bike and went riding for 50 minutes, cut my lawn, detailed my truck, cleaned my fridge, kitchen and dining room. Sunday I spent the day with crazy girlfriends sipping wine and gossiping. It was great. Monday I got my crew back, went bike-riding, worked in my yard some more and then cooked side dishes to go with the grilled meat I brought home from Saturdays outing. Overall it was a good weekend. Food was NOT on plan but I definitely got the cardio in.
I think my mother is the only person that visits the cemetary on Memorial Day (or any other day for that matter). I've been to my brothers' only twice in 12 years. However I still fuss at him for not being here and I dream about him often.
Hi guys, sorry I've been MIA. I had the day off of work for Memorial Day and that was very much appriciated! My dog has been sick for the last few weeks. We finally got a diagnosis about 10 days ago and he has diabetes Poor thing. I'm giving him insulin shots twice a day now but we're still trying to get his glucose leveled out ... meaning that after work everyday I'm rushing to my vet's office (which is about 30 miles away). Sigh. He's up all night (and so am I) drinking water and peeing. Poor puppy ... Since all my funds have been diverted into the vet's pocket I'll be giving up going to Curves, which I think will be fine. I've been going since August of last year and I was getting bored with it, and starting to suspect that it's done all it can for me ... I'll think of something to take it's place. For now, I'm just going to concentrate on trying to jog more than I walk and doing some weight training at home with light hand weights.
One good thing about all this: even though I missed exercising for a whole week, and my eating was a little disorganized I lost two more pounds. (I'm just thrilled that I haven't gained!) Grace
Thanks for the kind thoughts. My dog will be fine, the vet says it'll just take a couple of more weeks to get him "leveled" out. He's feeling better, and he's just loving all of the extra attention. What a little
Graceful Goddess--
So sorry to hear about your puppie! He will probably be just fine though, once you get him straight. Dogs are never as close to a 'normal' BS as humans are--it's just too hard to tell whether they are in the 'zone'. But you can keep them pretty close.
We had a Lab a few years back, who was Diabetic and lived to almost 14. He was a cool dude. He also got two shots aday, and We found that keeping him on canned dog food rather than dry got him to eat it 'all at once' as he needed to for his insulin to work properly, whereas dry--he just picked at it all day, and he would bottom out. I also learned (from the vet) to take along a small squeeze bottle of karo syrup on walks and trips so that if he bottomed out I could squeeze some at the back of his mouth at the gums area and bring him back around. Kind of like adult humans have a substance called glucagon for when they are so 'out' they are nearly unconscious.
A couple of times, he had 'episodes' --like when my sons (young then) decided to share a whole box of cookies with him. And the time we left for church and left the Easter candy baskets down low on the hearth and he ate them ALL. Not only was he peeing in rivers on the linoleum when we got hom, but there were little pices of foil all over the back yard.
He got through it all though, adn what finally took him, at a very old age, was a stroke like episode. He had a great life and was very loved, as I'm sure your puppy is. Don't feel defeated--it is very manageable. Better a slightly high sugar than crashing (bottoming out) with a very low. Of course, I am not your Vet.
Well I am home from my vacation. It was wonderful. I got to see a lot and did relax quite a bit too. Got to spend a ton of time with the boy. I didn't really want to leave yesterday morning, but did want to come home too. Though h did figure out that he could feed us both on his salary but if we wanted to live somewhere else (other then with roommate we don't like, but like to torment) or go out at night, then I may have to find a job.
Jessica, Congratulations, all A's that is wonderful!!!!!!
Squeak, glad you enjoyed your vacation.
